I don't believe the "times are too tough" trope. Every single person who says that has cable TV and a thousand dollar phone, eats out at least once a week, and most are probably overweight. There's 7 bucks a month in there somewhere. Priorities, people
I agree, although it is possible that some people feel they’ve maxed out on subscription Substacks and draw the line at one more when they see how they add up. I’ve done that, but Sasha always makes the cut and always will. There are a lot of good writers and analytical thinkers out there, but after a while I can anticipate their arguments if I haven’t heard them already. But Sasha shares her analysis and insight and so much more with her readers —her sorrows and successes and her humanity. There is no one like her out there.

I did want to commiserate with you about jasper. My Rosie cat had an allergy that I found out when she had ripped her neck to shreds from the itching. They never could figure out what she was allergic to, they thought it might be she was allergic to herself. Anyway, the only thing that could help her were steroid shots.
Maybe Jasper has an allergy. Dogs have actual allergy medication. If it’s auto immune, hopefully veterinarian medication can help him.
Hi Sasha, big fan! I know it's a half day trip up North but, UC Davis Animal University is the absolute best on the West Coast. It's where most veterinarians have been trained that I have come across in my forty plus years of having the pleasure of owning dogs. There was a time I would have bought that. But then I thought of what Dolly did. She was more kind and generous than anyone I’ll ever meet. She had no formal education to speak of, and she made a fortune. She would have made a billion if she hadn’t given so much away all the time. You can still be kind, caring and generous and remember to put the donate link at the end of your posts. Can you work with a template and always have it in? Look, if you had more money, you’d do good things with it. Agree?
I'm not a writer of your status, nor do I need to make money at this. But when all this BS started in 2020, I just decided that no matter what I would make sure everything was available for free. People can get paid subscriptions to The Asylum if they want, but it's only a show of support for my work. They don't get anything special for doing it, except my gratitude.
I'm not sure what the best answer is about a paywall and when/what to put there. I do know that I value Sasha's content enough that I subscribed even though I did not have to. It's worth it and I hope you believe the same.

Picture a 70-year-old [Boomer] delivering a “Confrontation and Consequence” missive to a twenty-first Century Ayatollah. Then imagine the aftermath.

Not at all a bad prophecy. Your articles are a diary of this era of accelerated change. Perhaps you can do some in-depth articles inside the pay wall while leaving the synopses outside it, so people who want the deeper content will know they have the option to pay for it.

It’s already there. From what I have read on SubStack, most writers are making less these days. I’m an old dinosaur who actually knew Bill Strauss back in the first edition days. In fact the name of your SubStack is initially what made me a subscriber.
I miss being able to just buy a subscription or two and be able to read a variety of viewpoints.
There is no way on this earth I can afford all the subscriptions I would love to have here.
I wish you the absolute best, and hope that down the road I’ll be able to afford an upgrade.
