Sasha, this essay hit hard because I’ve seen the same pattern up close. I used to tune into Tucker religiously and found Candace’s early work compelling—until the shifts: Tucker’s relentless anti-Israel turn pushed me to walk away, and Candace’s descent into what feels like pure grift (now turning on Erika Kirk with baseless attacks after the assassination) confirmed it.

Your point about the “podcast lane” morphing into its own propaganda ecosystem is spot-on. Legacy media lost credibility by pushing the anti-Trump resistance; now parts of the Right are walking the same road—amplifying unhinged theories that blame Israel, TPUSA insiders, or even Erika herself for Charlie’s murder, despite clear evidence of a lone, ideologically driven shooter.

The real harm isn’t just reputational—it endangers a grieving family, deepens divisions when unity is needed most, and hands critics fresh ammunition to smear the entire movement as conspiracy-obsessed. Drawing the line at exploiting tragedy for clicks and subscribers isn’t censorship; it’s basic humanity.

You’ve lost followers before by standing on principle, but you gain respect from those who still believe in truth over tribalism. Thank you for the heavy-hearted clarity. We need more of that right now. Thank you!

This Candace Owen vendetta conspiracy against the Kirks is pathetic, even psychopathic. But Owens had jumped the shark well before Kirk's assassination. She went beserk around the 2020 election. I had been a fan of hers in the 2016 election when she bucked the prevailing "Trump is a racist" narrative and supported Trump, along with other attention-seeking black people like Amarosa and Kanye (but they did legitimize black support for Trump today). Tucker Carlson lost me about the same time, 2020. I don't know what happened to him and Candace. Maybe it is long-Covid. But they are both cuckoo at this point

"truth over tribalism" well said!

Boogie's avatar

Maybe she should podcast more about Lincoln's real killer instead of all this inauthentic nonsense about John Wilkes Booth.

I trace all this TDS back to the turning point when Epstein was first ousted from Club Mar Lago by Trump. Epstein was so embedded in elite circles he was dangerous person to cross like that but Trump stood by his principles against trafficking.

I’ve been a paying Sasha Stone subscriber for many years. But lately I’ve read a few line (or the headline) and hit delete. It began w/ Sasha following the way of The Free Press - going to the well of rage-bait by pile-on vilifying Candace or Tucker. I’m getting sick and tired of it. I don’t listen to Candace at all and I don’t listen to Tucker either, except when there’s a general freak out on someone he’s interviewed. Then I do tune in and most of the time find some sliver of truth.

Too many of us (IMO, Sasha too) have succumbed to source bias. Where the speaker has been so vilified that one can no longer evaluate with impartiality what is being said. This is especially the case when it involves the US-Israel relationship. Anything critical of Israel has been framed as ‘antisemitic’. This I’m afraid is based on fear. Fear of existential threat (it seems) if US support of Israel should waver in any way.

On the Left, anything Trump says, it’s generally opposed. Before Trump, those on the Right couldn’t find much value in anything Biden said. Because to do so, lends power to your ‘opposition’.

There was a sociology experiment held long ago (in 1960’s) where a large (300 person class) were all given the same quote. Except 1/2 the class given the quote saw it attributed to MLK Jr. and the other half to Spiro Agnew. For those of you old enough to know, Spiro was involved in a political scandal at the time, not well like by the youth. The class was then asked to give impressions of the quote. Those that had quote w/ MLK Jr. name attributed gave it glowing, positive reviews. Those w/ Agnew, the opposite. Leave this here as an observation to consider for everyone who truly seeks the truth, as well as those who don’t.

Boogie's avatar

There's a rumor that tribal people are conmen. They try to gain your trust by pretending to be normal but all they really care about is the Zionist project.

Matt L.'s avatar
3hEdited

Perhaps I should have added, those voicing concerns about the US-Israel relationship are also often cast (derided) as ‘anti-Zionist’. It’s a way to shut down or discredit their speech. I happen to believe Israel has a right to their country because they have the proven ability to defend and hold it. I also recognize that Israel is a high-trust society, with decent birth rate. I commend them for all of these positive attributes.

Anne Pettigrew's avatar

Well said, Joe! I'm a subscriber, too, and I admire Sasha's integrity.

Boogie's avatar

Hey I've got a good idea. Why doesn't Candace publish and essay.

Petey Kay's avatar

I don't think anyone gives a rat's ass what Candace Owens says. (At least I don't nor does anyone I know). Carry on!

Boogie's avatar

Why don't you care what people say or know anyone? How are you ever going to learn?

Ruth H's avatar

Learn what? 🤦‍♀️

Jeff G's avatar

The only thing you could learn from Candace is how to impersonate an insane person. But she’s not impersonating.

Boogie's avatar

If there's a pill to make crazy people normal then according to Newton's law of Relativity there's an equal and opposite pill to make normies crazy.

Mystic William's avatar

There isn’t a pill that can make an insane person sane. Anyway that isn’t how reaction equal to an action works. A moment can smash a car into bits. There isn’t a moment that can take a smashed car, run into it, and thereby fix it.

Brian M's avatar

LOL! But it is a funny equality, even if the cause and effect is not logical

Boogie's avatar

Okay then if your so smart if neutron and electron why not protron?

Brian M's avatar

Candace Owen was ever a "normie"?! She pretended for a while. There is nothing in her background that she ever was, or Tucker Carlson for that matter.

madaboutmd's avatar

Candace and Tucker have something in common that I really believe plays a role in their behavior. Candace was mostly raised by her grandparents and Tucker's mother left the family when he and his brother were young and moved to Europe. These abandonment issues are flexing in using a big microphone to garner as much attention as possible. They need help.

Boogie's avatar

Consider that pretending to be normal is sanity. Insanity is no more pretending.

Jeff G's avatar

I wouldn’t bet against it 🤷‍♂️

I used to like Candace Owens. I said some time ago, I do not know what happened to her. She has gone off the rails. Ditto, Tucker. I was furious when FOX let him go and even subscribed to his videos. Again, I do not know what happened to him. I'm not well versed in Bret. As rabbit holes go, I started to wonder if they were being threatened to go the direction they have which seems to be a 180 from where they started. I think anything and everything at this point is on the table as to an explanation for their whiplash.

In the case of Tucker it is supposed to be Qatar but Qatar is supporting the US in the Iranian war. Does not compute.

Brian M's avatar
4hEdited

Biggest surprise of the Iranian conflict was when Qatar supported the USA, Israel and the bombing and then Iran fired on Qatar, which has been the only Arab country to stand by Iran (with Qatar's 1.5% Iranian population). I guess those Mullahs and IRGC are hated more than we knew. Tucker got caught as flat-footed as the Ayatollah on that one. My theory is that Israel won Qatar's respect when Israel took out the leaders of its clients Hamas and Hezbollah. The saying is that the Arab's respect strength over everything. This switcheroo proves that point.

I have never really followed Candace Owen. I didn’t dislike her just never followed her much. Lately though some of the things she has stated seem very unhinged. As for Tucker Carlson, I loved him when he was info . I was sorry when he was terminated but very happy when he started his own podcast. I listened for quite awhile but then things changed. I rarely listen to him anymore. Just can’t agree with the commentary much anymore.

Boogie's avatar

You don't have agree to listen to somebody. I listen to you even the you're so inferior to me intellectually. You sound like one of those nerds that got participation award at Harvard but couldn't pass an SAT.

Mike Gustine's avatar

Money, I have no doubt, plays a huge part. Maybe the whole part. In any case, I agree with you. I have never paid any attention to Candace, until I started reading about her on Substack's like this one. This biases my opinions of course, but the clips I have seen make me feel like it's designed as entertainment. Tucker, I did start to watch in his Fox days, because I was slowing coming out of the left wing coma I had been in for many years. I didn't really follow him after he was ousted from Fox, but something definitely happened to him. Money, is my guess.

Greed (money) is a big influence. Disruption and fear sell. It’s pitiful how low they’ve gone.

Brian M's avatar

Fox hires controversial people because controversy sells. Not everyone on the network is unstable, but many are or have been. Don't forget Bill O'Reilly. Hannity is not crazy, but he is controversial. So is Laura Ingraham. I watch Fox Business where people are more calm and not so hyperbolic.

Candace & Tucker sell on this substack, as well as TFP. The more Sasha & Bari hate on them, the more those that read these posts do the same. Hate is not what God designed us for.

Thank you. This is the article that made me (finally) become a paid subscriber. Those of us in the sane lane need to stand up to this insanity. Thank you Sasha.

ARA KHACHATURIAN's avatar

Sasha — I’m very sorry about your dog. Anyone who has been through that moment knows how heavy it can feel.

One of the quiet gifts dogs give us is perspective. They seem to know us better than we know ourselves — they read our moods, anticipate our habits, and somehow give us exactly what we need before we even realize we need it. In that sense, they understand us more clearly than most people ever will.

And maybe that’s the last lesson they leave us with: to live a little more the way they do. In the moment. Paying attention to what’s right in front of us. Not to the noise, not to the endless arguments, not to the petty people shouting online.

You’ve written often about those long cross-country drives — the vast landscapes, the quiet beauty of America unfolding mile after mile. Dogs naturally understand that kind of presence. They don’t need a filter, an algorithm, or a podcast to tell them what matters. They just look, feel, and know.

Maybe, in a uniquely canine sort of way, your dog is reminding you of that again.

I hope as your companion transits over the rainbow bridge, you carry forward the things s/he surely gave you every day — clarity, loyalty, and the ability to see what really matters. May you be untroubled by yesterday, grateful for today, and confident that there is still brightness ahead.

Granny62's avatar

Yes, dogs are so incredibly intuitive of our feelings- such unconditional love is very painful to lose.

"And yes, of course, it will cost MAGA much, if not everything, in the coming years."

I am beginning to believe this the goal of Tucker, Megyn and Candace, each of whom is drunk with power. Burn the Party. Rebirth the Party as isolationist.

Who, pray tell, who will be their candidate for President?

Larrd's avatar

Tucker and Candice should run so we can see how many nutjobs are actually following them. I'm guessing it's not many.

Boogie's avatar

Run from the law.

NNTX's avatar

I’m not so sure it will cost as much as the poseurs think. The majority of MAGA is there for Trump and his policies. The others were merely fellow travelers.

The outcome in Iran may affect support, of course. But reading widely I don’t see that many in the Israel conspiracy lane except the nut job podcasters.

Boogie's avatar

Burn, baby, burn. Disco inferno. Couldn't get enough. Had to stretch my stuff.

Ashby McDonald's avatar

Thank you Sasha, for once again standing up for sanity. I have no idea what turned people like Tucker and Candace Owens, whom I once admired, into crazed anti-Semites who see Jews as the root of all evil.

Margaret G's avatar

I'm with you 100% and gladly pay to subscribe. And the Drunk Republican on X is great. I never listen to any of the nutcases you mention in any case. Let them stew in their own juice. There is definitely a case for retaining some sanity, and in my opinion that means not listening to any of these lunatics but also not voting for Democrats. Democrats will usher in socialism by whatever means necessary, and that is the greatest evil we are faced with at this political moment. Anything else is just background noise.

Beth W Thomerson's avatar

Thanks for always bringing sanity to insane crevices. I'm so thankful for your perspective.

Dick Minnis's avatar

In as much as the Iranian, Israeli, and US conflict is the elephant in the room behind all these podcast meltdowns, then I suggest before anyone runs down some tangent rabbit hole, they truthfully answer these four questions.

1. Would Iran deliberately use a nuclear weapon against Israel in a first strike attack if they had one?

2. Or would the theocratic Islamic republic, who has waged 47 years of proxy wars against a country they declared illegitimate and have an official government policy to destroy use their attainment of nuclear weapons in a style of mutually assured destruction (MAD) similar to the US and USSR in the cold war and the same MAD doctrine established between Pakistan and India who fought 3 wars over Kashmir before they both had nukes and none since?

3. Should Israel trust a regime that poses an existential threat to their existence?

4. Should the US allow a situation to develop that could turn an area with 30% of the world's oil into a smoking nuclear wasteland?

You can answer those questions anyway you want but spare me the, TDS, Uni-party, Marxist or NeoCon diatribes until you've honestly answered the questions. Your answers will determine if you're a serious person.

Dick Minnis

removingthecataract.substack.com

Gary W.'s avatar

My only question is should the US have gotten overtly involved?

Israel has always had the ability to take down the mullahs in Iran, and all their proxies in other states. We could have helped them with munitions and intel, and maintained plausible deniability. Now the Democrats have a club to beat Republicans over the head in the mid-terms.

quarkdetector's avatar

...very good questions ... I've asked myself a few along the way ... the trick in nuclear use is not in *making* a weapon ... the trick is getting the weapon delivered reliably ... why would Iran have an operational missile (Simorgh or Ghaem) with a 5000 km radius? ... I doubt it's aimed at Beijing or Moscow but it would pose a threat to Paris, London, Berlin ... then there is the Martyr Soleimani Constellation project ... while Iran maintained this was purely for "civilian" use ... the test for the Hatef - 3/Simorgh was designated for the end of Ramadan, March 2026 ... should the WORLD *trust* Iran after 47 years of proxy war?...

Boogie's avatar

What difference does it make? I'll launch a nuclear tipped SCUD on you.

quarkdetector's avatar

...LOL ... I'm sure you would ...

Boogie's avatar

How come there's no nukes in America but it's okay if Iran wants nukes? And it's the same libtards either way. The crickets are deafening.
