Sasha, leaving the left may have cost you many friendships, but your critical thinking, courage and conviction have opened the door to a few more. And you can sleep with a clear conscience.

David White's avatar

Critical thinking is certainly taken up more than a notch if we recognize fallacies ...

Casey Jones's avatar

Does one not require "getting past" a lot of stupid and downright evil to even get to the level of "fallacies?

Free Will's avatar

Who is the Totalitarian Left saving from Trump? Who are they even pretending to help? Smearing Trump is not the solution to any problem.

JJoshua's avatar

After he is out of the WH Democrats will still be blaming him for decades

Free Will's avatar

Throw out this question: "Do you think there's any way Trump would have been elected without two terms of Obama first?

Or this: Bush, calling it "compassionate conservatism," Obama (calling himself a centrist), Biden (pretending he was not senile or scripted) and Trump (calling himself an America First populist), all ran on almost the exact same populist platform. Trump is the only one to keep any of his campaign promises. Does that make Trump the most honest president of this century?

Gary Edwards's avatar

Indeed they will target him and his family both legally and physically

Alec Welsh's avatar

You are probably too stupid to understand the issues

Richard's avatar

They ran against Hoover for decades.

PapayaSF's avatar

Some Democrats *still* blame Reagan for homelessness, 38 years after he left office.

PKsweets's avatar

Is so ridiculous. It’s so true in California. That’s their fallback position that and Trump hate.

The GOP is the big problem

Doesn’t matter that you had the lame Schwarzenegger, who was being held hostage by Democrats because they found out about his love child with the housekeeper and that was keeping him in line so in fact since Gray Davis, it’s been all Democrats all the time running the state into the fraudulent hell hole that it is

And the unions rule and everybody’s happy with the handouts they’re getting kickbacks what not and it’s I don’t know how it’s gonna end

And even if Steve Hilton gets in, it’s gonna be like Trump 1.0 and the Democrats will stop anything

JJoshua's avatar

Yes and now they’ll have Trump to blame shit for another 40 years

Alec Welsh's avatar

Do you actually understand the argument or the specific policies? Do you understand how government policies can have long term implications?

PapayaSF's avatar

I do, but that accusation was always bogus. Medicare was created and wouldn’t pay for long-term institutions. Reformers fought for years to close the asylums. People thought psych drugs would solve the problem. Reagan (as California governor) went along with Democrats and reformers. It’s not that his policies failed. He just gets the blame.

taek kenn's avatar

Hillary, Kamala, Swalwell, Massie, Cassidy Cronyn and Auto-Pen definitely agree with you and understand "long term implications".

Gary W.'s avatar

And when you say, "You are probably too stupid to understand the issues" is an argument?

taek kenn's avatar

Once again,

Hillary, Kamala, Swalwell, Massie, Cassidy Cronyn and Auto-Pen definitely agree with you.

Jeff Keener's avatar

I'd wager that there are a lot more GOP voters who used to be Democrats than there are Democrats who used to be Republicans.

Alec Welsh's avatar

No. This would only be true if they were stupid or immoral. Anyone being a Republican today is not a true American and belong in Russia or China, since you values and president like those values more.

Liberal, not Leftist's avatar

I sense that Alec Welsh is a bot.

Allan W's avatar

My perspective as well. I registered Republican four years ago. No regrets. I really wanted Nikki Haley but now I’m a Marco Rubio fan

Sue S's avatar

I have so much respect for you, Sasha. Thankful to be a supporter. 💜

We need all the red votes we can muster - as batshit crazy as the dems are, they motivate the crazies to show up. We MUST turn out!

Brandy's avatar

You mentioned something which is the reason I will be voting and voting Republican and it's not because I am super happy with them. One thing I would love, though, is a new Senate filled with new people who aren't going to block everything. Anyway, there's something more. I like being on a side that holds their ground win or lose. Standing up for Israel is right. Defeating Iran once and for all is right. Other things I don't love. However, being a part of a party that allows you to speak your mind, to push back against the most extreme? That's important to me. It's important to me that even though R are always called racists (overwhelming majority is not) they don't go out and try to prove they aren't by platitudes and payoffs. Holding everyone to the same standard is a sign of respect, or it is to me. I can't stand the idea of tricking people into believing we changed all our views in the last 3 months just until we get in. Stand up. That's the deal.

Everything that woke-progressive democrats touch turns to shit. I watched my city Chicago that was run for decades by moderate democrats thrive and grow, only to see it devolve into a 3rd world trajectory under woke-progressive democrats. We have 67 new or increased taxes under democrat fat bastard villain JB Prikzter and it has led to mass exodus of businesses and families. For example from 2022 to 2025 Illinois saw 2,000 business leave Illinois while republican run neighbor Indiana had growth with 67,000 new business. JB Prikzter through his taxation madness making life unaffordable, earns him the label of KING of state debt and taxation misery. I'm a former democrat who is now a tax refugee who will soon be seeking asylum in a republican low tax state.

America is for those who love America. America will not work for those who hate America. For this reason, the Democratic Party and its leadership have absolutely nothing to offer America. Much of what they do offer is explicitly, anti-American.

We had a good look at what they would do to our republic with the Biden/Harris admin. Do not give them that chance again.

Be brave America!

lothar baier's avatar

of course this is not representative but out of the 5 friends that i have that identify as democrats 3 of them are going to vote R this fall !

its not because they love trump and republicans , in fact they all hate trump with a vengance but the reasons are individual .

Dan was born in 1937 he lost most of his family in the holocaust , in 1945 he was liberated with his mother from a death camp and eventually came to the US , for him the antisemitism of todays democrats is just too much .

Richard fled east germany in 1986 and was shot by border guards , he doesnt like the socialist rhetoric and the class warfare waged by democrats .

"I will confess there have been moments when the Right seemed to be heading in a crazier direction. Certainly, Tucker Carlson, Marjorie Taylor-Greene and others have lost the plot and sided with Radical Islam and Iran even over the United States."

Don't conflate media popularity whores with actual party leadership. Also, don't under-value the Republican party tendency to hold different views and debate them, and make the mistake that the Democrat media wants... to latch onto the most absurd and nasty of those views as being part of the common party agenda.

The Democrat establishment has been adopting and absorbing the ideas and opinions of the radical left for the last decade at least. I live among a bunch of old liberal Baby Boomers, and they scream at me for my views that the trans grooming in the public schools needs to stop, and that biological men should not be allowed to compete in female athletics and visit their bathrooms and locker rooms. These were conservative liberal adults until Trump was elected and TDS rotted their gray matter.

Republicans and conservatives... yes, some have jumped the shark in Jew-hate, but that isn't the core. That isn't the majority. The majority of Republicans still have a positive view of Israel. 80% of Democrats have an unfavorable view. There is logic in the drop in Republican support of Israel from the simple perspective that pulling the US into the war with Iran has boosted Democrat political opportunity. I am in that camp. I support the goals of attempting to take out the Iranian Regime, but I think going at it this way was a mistake because of the potential cost with Democrats gaining power in the mid-terms.

Frankly, I see the Iranian terrorist regime less of a threat to the world than Democrats back in control of the federal government.

wow sasha. as a lifelong California Democrat now living in DC, I almost cried with relief to read your essay above with which I agree absolutely entirely.

Identity politics started the downfall of the now tragically and seemingly incurably Trump derangement syndrome afflicting the Democrats, so many whom I know and used to admire here in DC.

Now we have an extremist far more than democratic socialist presumptive Mayor coming in to which no one in the press will even ask if she still believes in defunding the police and getting rid of UCFE any any immigration law enforcement, and letting anyone vote who’s been here 30 days (including illegal immigrants).

There is so much absolute insanity here in DC including the recent “protest-to “protect“ the Kennedy Center while boycotting it and causing it to go bankrupt by thousands of democrats — almost All white women (look at the photos) some in animal costumes and carrying balloons and jumping and dancing and singing as they destroy the wonderful programs that were planned this year —? All because Trump put his name on the building that can be easily removed. Many of my democratic friends called this utterly embarrassingly silly demonstration “empowering”. They have lost their judgment their rationality and any respect I used to have.

Thank you for speaking out and I intend to join you!!

Likewise, I will do all I can to stop them. I’ve made it my mission to talk to young people, especially about the hype and misinformation I know they’re being fed at every turn.

God help us.

Hillary Clinton is coming to Omaha to campaign for Denise Powell. Powell favors child mutilation and all of the other crazy stuff the Dems stand for today.

Keep an eye out on reports of Hillary's visit to Omaha.

After seeing the glee the lunatic liberals celebrated 10/7 I had decided to fully support Israel and the Jews. The evil Global coalition of Socialists, Islamists and Antisemites trying to destroy the West as a whole. And have been for decades. Not supporting Israel is supporting the demise of America. Rid the world of Jew and they’re done, right. Keep thing that, because you will be next.

Tribalism => atrocities. And the Far Left is all in with Tribalism: "The more hateful we are, the more righteous we are ..." Now what could that *possibly* lead to?

Very good article Sasha. I enjoyed it and it gave me much to think about. DON’T know when I’ve heard from so many converted Democrats. I honestly feel hopeful when I hear what they are saying. There is actually hope in the world ! Vote common sense !!
