Watching the fireworks show now on YouTube and thinking similar thoughts. The more the left hates America , the better Trump gets.

The left has herd mentality. Cattle or Lemmings...

BradK (Tuckered out)'s avatar

Independent thought has been conditioned out of at least the two most recent generations. Younger X's as well. Largely through academia. Zoomers cannot conceive of a world without phones and 24x7 social media instructing them what to believe -- and what to hate.

BigGuy49's avatar

Lemmings, for sure.

Cattle have value and are docile by nature, but strong when attacked.

Lemmings OTOH, are simply idiots... who follow other idiots without knowing why.

I know!! I was going to respond to an earlier comment “don’t insult the cattle please!”

It was a wonderful week leading up to that cool finale!

Unfortunately the more Trump (and America) continue to win, and the more transparent the lies of the Left become, the more bitter and violent they become as well. Like 5 year-olds being denied ice cream right before dinner.

Trump's killing it last night will only push them further and further off the ledge.

a_bone_2_pick's avatar

That's because Communism is their religion.

Matt L.'s avatar

I watched Trump speech last night on C-Span until I couldn’t handle any more of the over the top partisanship ad-libs. I could have gotten drunk if I’d taken a shot for every time Trump took a verbal potshot at communism. I was hoping for a shorter, patriotic address that didn’t wave into politics. I think the crowd was too, as the fireworks didn’t start until after midnight, local time. I listen less to what Trump barks and more at what he does (which I agree with). Can’t wait for this all to continue but with Vance at the control panel. Melania has zero control over what comes out of Trump’s mouth. But Vance will listen to Usha, and I want her calming influence on our next POTUS.

Lester Dent's avatar

So you are acknowledging that the Democrats are communists today (since you say his ad libs were partisan & mention communism)? What would JFK have said about the party’s leading lights being communists today?

Communism is what we fought against in the Cold War. Would you have been disappointed if JFK or “Scoop” Jackson or LBJ or Nixon or Carter or Reagan spoke out against communism in a speech? Would you have considered that “partisan?”

While we toppled the communist Soviet Union, today the Democratic Party embraces communism through their DSA candidates & politicians. Joseph M. Schwartz, vice chair of the DSA said in 2019 “Our goal is communism, but a democratic communism.”

Communism remains the enemy of our constitutional republic, yet the Democrat leaders have embraced “democratic socialism” & “democratic communism.” Should we not be hearing speeches about that, even as ad libs?

Trump has a yuge ego. He mostly set that aside for his 4th speech to honor America & our heroes. By my count he used the word “I” 2 or 3 times. By way of contrast, in his 2008 acceptance speech at the DNC, Obama used “I” 47 times, with variants (I’ve, I’m, me, my) almost doubling that. Trump didn’t give us soaring rhetoric, he gave a paen about American greatness. It was most appropriate that he included the determination to oppose communism, which has infected the Democrats & threatens our great nation.

a_bone_2_pick's avatar

Reagan did speak/testify about Communism infecting the Democrat party and the Screen Actors Guild; that was why he left the party.

Matt L.'s avatar

Time & place, Lester. That’s all I’m saying. Time and place. It was the 4th of July. Take a break from ‘fighting’ the present ‘danger’ and just celebrate and be grateful for what we have. Of course we don’t like communism. Of course I approve of the policy actions Trump is making. He’s just a blowhard in his speeches. And it gets tiring to listen to it.

Spadizzly's avatar

"By my count he used the word “I” 2 or 3 times."

This is the complete text of trump's remarks:

https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trumps-july-4-speech-read-full-salute-to-250-remarks-12151781

It took all of 3 minutes to find and search, and by my count, you lost count...3 sentences in.

All in all, trump used "I" 22 times, "mine" and "my" 7 times each. Total 36x.

Lester Dent's avatar

“And I want to thank everybody because they did the right thing. They saw lightning, and I said, “There's no way if we have to speak in front of one person at 4 o'clock in the morning, I'm going to be here. There's no way we can be deterred. ””

That’s because celebrating our history & heroes is important. Look at what his delayed speech referenced. It was a celebration of America, our greatness & heroes. It wasn’t a paen to Trump (as his stump speeches usually are).

Doesn’t Trump’s ego just shine through? Thanking the crowd & saying the show must go on? What an egotist. Imagine saying that if our boys could land on D-Day he could give a late speech to people who had traveled thousands of miles & come back in after being escorted out after the storm.

Talking to Bret Baier of FNC Trump said, “It’s America 250. If they can storm the beaches on D-Day, I can deliver a speech and we can keep this program going.”

This is clearly a self deprecating remark that, compared to what our heroes went through, a little rain & lightning was nothing.

The NYT mangled this as only they can, “These veterans went through bad weather on D-Day. I’m going through bad weather.” It makes it look like Trump was claiming heroism for putting up with the rain just like a D Day soldier when that’s not what he said. He was actually saying a little delay was nothing compared to our heroes’ sacrifices. You can’t hate the legacy media enough.

Again, Trump’s speeches are usually full of braggadocio. Not this one. Telling a 100+ veteran of WWII he looks better than Trump was one of those pronouns you counted. Such ego! Sharing the stage with others, heroes & offspring of heroes. Angel family members. Trump’s “we” referred to the crowd or America.

Obama’s “I” & “we” in 2008 were mostly references to him, his history or family.

“When I listen to another worker tell me that his factory has shut down, I remember all those men and women on the South Side of Chicago who I stood by and fought for two decades ago after the local steel plant closed.” (2008 acceptance speech)

He worked organizing churches to assist workers for 3 years, 5 years after their plant steel plant closed; working with pastors & church ladies is hardly fighting. Where were the testimonials from those he helped here in his various campaigns? Where are they in his new hagiographic library, where his words repeat on loop in most rooms or are carved into the walls & ceiling? There are no such steel mill testimonials.

Trump & Obama both have massive egos. But in this case (the one we’re talking about), Trump set aside his ego to let others take the stage.

BradK (Tuckered out)'s avatar

Trump's braggadocio is his shtick. It comes across very different when watching him say it as it's usually delivered with a nod and wink or a smirk. He's doing it on purpose as a showman. When you just read the words on a page -- especially when cleverly extracted from any contextual meaning by some CSJ brainwashed Zoomer in the NYT newsroom -- it does sound much more egotistical than it actually is.

Yes, Trump has an ego. Every strong leader does. Obama OTOH doesn't have an ego so much as a messiah complex. Those are two very different things.

Lester Dent's avatar

I stand corrected. Too much to do, too little time. I was simply struck by how different this was from Trump’s usual speeches, celebrating others & our nation’s history.

Now do Obama’s 2008 DNC acceptance speech.

Annetvenom's avatar

“I” was Obama’s favorite letter.

BradK (Tuckered out)'s avatar

Name one Democrat pol who can utter a single sentence without first spewing a diatribe of vile anti-Trump ad hominems. Never mind the MSM. They can't debate his actual policy positions so they go after his family, like the criminal cabal they are. Should he not be allowed to fire back? I personally welcome the sheer entertainment value.

Such is political discourse in 21st Century America. Don't expect it to go away any time soon.

a_bone_2_pick's avatar

Or, more commonly, the coarsening of society has led to this, as has apathy among the citizenry, whose sole job is to be educated about who they vote for (or not).

The Communists used their outrageous accusations sparingly, then went ballistic on federal Judge Robert Borks nomination by Reagan, because he was an originalist.

Which subsequently led to Justice Thomas' nomination and Biden's no-holds-barred accusation(s) against his addition to the Supreme Court.

The Democrats' appeal to the lowest common denominator to achieve their goal of dismantling our societal norms was just the first step to what we witness today. The veils are off.

Dave Conley's avatar

Trump wouldn't have to say as much if there was anyone else to help him. It's his voice versus the combined media throw weight of several countries and deep-pocketed NGOs. And you're wishing for a simp to replace him?

JoAnna Shaw's avatar

The fact that you think comments on communism are "partisan" tells me everything I need to know about you - you're a communist.

Matt L.'s avatar

I’m a 3x Trump voter and straight GOP voter since I came of age in early 1990’s. When I go to a Memorial Day service, which I do every year, it is very rare to hear any politician get political/partisan. And I live in a purple district w/ a fair share of Democrat elected officials. Memorial Day is about the celebration of that unifying event, sacrifices made. I view our 4th of July celebration in the same way. It’s a day to celebrate our shared citizenship. So, I don’t want or need partisanship in that particular address.

You, JoAnna are an individual who enjoys stereotyping people you know nothing about. Which is of course, your right to do. Par for the course here @ Sasha’s Substack.

The Air Force band members were FANTASTIC! Incredibly talented. (All should be signed for major labels).

What a great crowd for the fireworks, which was quite a show and celebration.

Love that Trump and his administration found a creative solution to the cowardly propagandized musical acts that bowed out of celebrating our country (and theirs, last I checked, whose blessings they are happy to enjoy). Better and likely far more cost effective.

The indomitable spirit of Pres. Trump and his cabinet is evident and we are LUCKY to have them. (warts and all, and reminder that who should cast the first stone?!)

Thanks for the coverage, Sasha

Brian M's avatar

Agreed! That gal who was lead singer was awesome. There are a lot of big name acts with worse voices and musical skills. That sets the template for all future national events: use the military bands and singers who are inherently non-partisan rather than give some name act a chance to diss the Presidency and enhance their own marketability as being "courageous" (not sure what the threat would be; this is not China).

JoAnna Shaw's avatar

I hadn't kept up with the news and didn't realize that the Air Force band was going to be the primary act - it caught me totally off guard in the best way possible. I was so emotional with every song. A true showcase of our best.

It’s interesting, I’ve been a conservative since college when I saw all the rich kids cosplaying as poor revolutionaries… this was during the anti-apartheid protests in the late 80s. But now I find myself reading and listening to the podcasts of almost all former liberals who have moved right, like Sasha. I think it’s because they have critical thinking skills. I really like that, and I appreciate people who can look at nuance instead of bumper sticker slogans and change their minds when the facts warrant it.

A lot of us never had to change from what we knew as kids. Maybe that says something good about us. But there is unique valor in taking a moral stance that will put you on the outs with the crowd. That is worthy of respect, in any group I wish to be part of.

Jessica Bates's avatar

Well said. Yes. 👏🏻 and for some of us who haven’t had to change as many of our long-held beliefs, we often dealt with mockery for them when we were young, because so often the popular or mob-rule beliefs are morally wrong. Frankly, I'm heartened by this resurgence of patriotism in those of us who defected from the Left. It's much more patriotism than before the madness struck. Where it was 50/50, it just might be 75/25 now. And who inspired this patriotism?

TRUMP.

@sasha Why do you keep saying that he's not funding the national parks? Can you provide a citation? I retired from NPS and sure, the 99% percent of lefty park staff don't like anything trump does. I don't agree with many of the things he's done related to NPS, like putting his image on the annual.pass contrary to statute, but I also know that NPS wastes just as much money as other agencies and has.bloated and useless administrative staff. But everyone loves the parks and so they have better PR and get away with it. Are you talking about how he used the fee revenue to help beautify Washington DC? At least 20% of fee revenue can be used for national parks that don't collect fees such as the national mall and memorial parks and the white house. All administrations as far back as I can remember have squandered fee revenue for their own special pet projects. At least this money seems to be going to beautify our nations'capital. If you have an unbiased source that says he's defunding the parks please link to it or better yet please write a substack article about it! I consider you a trusted source

Laura's avatar

JJMom I’m glad you brought this up. I was curious too and went on the https://www.fs.usda.gov/about-agency/reorganization website and read what their reorganization is all about. It seems to be common sense changes such as consolidating services and offices by closing offices that were not being fully staffed. The site explains that some staff who were asked to relocate were given several options. Lots of information on the site and my questions were answered in a drop down question and answers format. It’s a very clear, accessible and informative website.

Janice albert's avatar

They want you to know what they are doing and why - I believe it’s called transparency!!!

JJMom's avatar

USDA would manage the national forests. Department of Interior manages national parks. I know there was a lot of whining and complaining about the Forest Service reorganization. Trump 45 did the same thing with BLM then Biden just moved everything back. Ridiculous.

Dena's avatar

The National Parks received $2.88 billion in 2026 funding for ops, staffing, maintenance & public access according to ai. “For instance, the fiscal year 2026 budget rejected severe cuts that had been proposed earlier, ensuring that national parks continue to receive necessary financial support.”

Richard's avatar

The NPS is the most obnoxious of the Federal land managers. One thing I will give Bill Clinton credit for is the practice of leaving the management of new national monuments with the agency from whom the land was taken, usually the Forest Service or BLM.

Janice albert's avatar

He just got the decision from POTUS that those who run these kinds of services are now ‘at will’ employees… better happy up & do the jobs… & stop bitching about it!

Donald Trump is the last obstacle standing between our constitutional liberty and freedom and an expanding over-bearing government that places more power in Washington, more regulation on everyday life, and more Socialist control over the economy.

And more free stuffs to sloths just to buy votes.

After it is too late, Americans who oppose him today will look back and realize they did not understand — did not want to understand — what he was trying to preserve.

The country will eventually miss him not because he was perfect — no President is — but because he was willing to challenge institutions, confront Establishment policies and fight for American interests first.

NNTX's avatar

Yes Trump is our protector.

But I don’t believe it is too late. Everyone here should galvanize for the midterms to be sure we can keep our momentum.

Dena's avatar

Trump loves America & the American people. So rare in politics. As hard as it is to vote for some R’s, if they’re running against a Dem ( now Communist party) got to vote R. We need to build a bigger majority in order to stamp out the same old rinos that continue to get in the way of good legislation- like the Save Act. Make them irrelevant.

Let us be clear: Leftists are Losers with a Loser ideology that has never worked in 200 years.

There is something of divine providence at work that one side is celebrating 250 years of freedom and the free enterprise system, and the other is complaining after their 200 years of absolute failure.

One side the winners, the other side the losers.

BradK (Tuckered out)'s avatar

Loserism is a growth industry these days. And a very profitable one due to the handouts and wealth it inspires.

Tom Gelsinon's avatar

A long time ago, I stopped qualifying my support for Trump. In conversations about him I would say I voted for him, but this or that thing he does or says bothers me. No more. I chose him because I chose liberty. The other side stands for the opposite. Question: How long before the left’s media adjuncts paint yesterday’s glorious Fourth celebration in D.C. as a Trumpian Nuremberg Rally? 3…2…1.

Orenv's avatar

The funny thing is my leftie friends attach Trump continuously. Trump is never running for election ever again. He is not going to stop being President till Jan 20, 2029. It is pointless. All this energy going towards attacking the man and almost zero about the things that really matter, like policy. Mainly because they got nothin. And that is why they are likely to lose the midterms. They got nothin. And to boot, the very best they could muster could not beat this man they say is the absolute worst of humanity. If they really believe this, what does this say about them???

Dave Conley's avatar

Get ready for their next Big Lie. "We don't hate the country, just that horrible Trump. Vote us back in and everyone nationwide can bask in America's return to normalcy." But as I say, it's a lie. Trump succeeded by creating an indelible identity between country and candidate. His enemies hate both, and that will not change with a kinder, gentler Republican candidate.

Tom Gelsinon's avatar

The media-created anti-conservative hysteria has been building up steadily since Goldwater ran for president in the early 60s. It has now reached literally explosive levels. TDS is so strong that it has turned some formerly “rock-ribbed” Republicans into liberal squishes. Michael Steel, former chair of the RNC, is now an analyst for MSNow. Isn’t it strange how Hillary Clinton’s loss in 2016 caused so many people to go nuts, and for some to completely change all of their long-held beliefs overnight? Maybe the only cure for it would be for them to live under a Harris-Newsom-Sanders-Mamdani regime for a decade. Of course that cure would probably kill everything else as well.

I just watched the 1984 movie, "1984" to remind myself of what George Orwell had documented about the horrors of totalitarianism in his time, the USSR, NAZI Germany and Japan. His story could have been about any, or all. It is horrifying. The depravity of "collectivism" which tears "self" from every human and replaces with "unit". This is the future the DSA envisions, with a few elites at the top, such as Zohran Mamdani, and all of us the "proles" to do their bidding. You can watch "1984 on Pluto TV "On-Demand" for free. It is hard to watch knowing it is today so true.
