Sasha says: "the wrong kind of person got their handprints on the fine crystal"--what it was always about.

Kurt's avatar

This behavior is just so tribal and childish.

NWCitizen's avatar

The one who is childish is Trump who has to make everything a memorial to himself.

Cat C.'s avatar

First off, is the word "everything" true? Of course it's not. Secondly, he's getting multi-millions of dollars of much-needed renovations done to the Kennedy Center, so I don't have a problem with it being renamed....personally, I'd rather it be the Kennedy Trump Center because Kennedy was first, but my ego isn't fragile, so I'll forget about it in a minute and BTW, JFK WOULD HAVE LOVED MOST ALL THE THINGS TRUMP IS DOING BECAUSE HE'D BE A CONSERVATIVE AND VOTE REPUBLICAN IF HE WAS ALIVE TODAY.

NWCitizen's avatar

Sure. JFK was a fine speaker and would never spew hateful garage as trump constantly does. He would NEVER mock anyone on the day of an enormous tragedy as trump was doing to the Kennedy family on truth social on the day of Tatiana Schlossberg's death. Disgusting behavior.

Maybe trump could rename the vietnam memorial to the Donald Trump Vietnam Memorial!

Cat C.'s avatar

And JFK would never call half the country "garbage" like Biden did and call them "semi-fascists" like Biden did and "deplorable and irredeemable" like H. Clinton did or what others have said, like a "Fascist youth leader who deserved to die" or a ton of other names.

mark aaron's avatar

worst yet, Biden and Obama labeled 77 million of us "white supremacists", the worst appelation I can imagine.

NWCitizen's avatar

Trump has far exceeded anyone else in the number of vile comments about opponents.

Cat C.'s avatar

First off, understand that if a Dem president was shot in the head (but gets the ear) and had other assassins that got close to him/her, there would be such a speedy trial and the death sentence, it would make your head spin, PLUS all others who had ANY contact with them, would be raided, hauled off to the D.C. gulag and MAYBE have a hearing of some sort in a year or two, while they shake down everyone to try and get a confession or at least enough evidence so they can get life in prison.

SAME GOES FOR ANYONE WHO DID A "Russia collusion - type" attempted coup against the same Dem president - they'd be put in a pit, left to rot "while the exact accusations that we are going bring forth are figured out". AND AGAIN, anyone who had anything to do with them - the maid, gardener, etc. would be hailed in for questioning IMMEDIATELY. Trump says bad words and leaves it up to the DOJ.

NWCitizen's avatar

I seem to recall squeaky frome & Sara Jane more pointing guns at Ford. They both served time in prison & are now free. Dems are NOT as big on the death penalty as the right is. Rubio headed a bipartisan committee, Report of the Select Committee on Intelligence United States Senate on Russian Active Measures Campaigns and Interference in the 2016 U.S. Election, which found "Russian government had engaged in an "extensive campaign" to sabotage the election in favor of Donald Trump, which included assistance from some of Trump's own advisers." "the report does not find a criminal conspiracy between Russia and the Trump campaign, but it does go further than the Mueller report in detailing the many suspicious links between Trump associates and Russian officials. In particular, it describes Paul Manafort as "a grave counterintelligence threat". Why did trump have a Russian asset as a campaign manager? The right just echoes whatever trump says.

Kathleen McCook's avatar

At a university where I worked we had a rule that no names on buildings until the person had died. Presidential libraries would be an exception. Sometimes it takes a century--the Theodore Roosevelt library is still being built: https://www.trlibrary.com/

Nicola's avatar

Then why are there schools named after Barack Obama?

Kathleen McCook's avatar

Good point. This isn't a universal rule, I guess.

St.Petersburg, FL has named a library for Obama. https://splibraries.org/main_library.html

MLHVM's avatar

Where I live a lot of schools get named after leftist school board members or union stooges who are all, sadly, still alive.

Wishful thinking most likely.

NWCitizen's avatar

And the person being honored should NOT honor himself!

Cat C.'s avatar

He didn't, the board decided to do it, not Trump. Why don't you get educated.

NWCitizen's avatar

And you actually believe Trump had nothing to do with it? the Kennedy Center's board of trustees, which Trump chairs and consists mostly of MEMBERS HANDPICKED BY TRUMP, voted to rename the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to the Trump-Kennedy Center on Dec. 18

Whats more, Bylaws that would limit voting to Trump-appointed trustees appears to reveal long-held renaming plan.

NW implies Northwest? The comment suggests it, and the reason why I emigrated from that coastal crack-up to saner parts of the country. Thanks for reaffirming that decision! Oh, and before you say "good riddance" I also took my higher earning power and tax dollars with me.

Operator Dawn's avatar

That means he exited a blue state(Democrat state) Just FYI

NWCitizen's avatar

I totally understand what he means. If it is best for him & his family, then good for him. He is free to do what he wants.

NWCitizen's avatar

Fooglee's avatar

Just because i tell a fuckbag to suck a dick you assume I’m being unkind and impolite? Actually I’m simply reminding lefty fags who turn ‘Hamilton’ into a gay romp, to go have their favorite meal, and bowel cleanse.

NWCitizen's avatar

Not only impolite & unkind but silly.

Operator Dawn's avatar

I don't see a problem

John Wygertz's avatar

Good phrase for what we're witnessing. Interesting times ahead.

Notes from the Under Dog L.'s avatar

Is it true that Trump invested in the Kennedy Center? I seem to recall reading that somewhere.

If this is true, then they are basically protesting saving the Kennedy Center, and hastening its demise.

They also do not honor contractual agreements, and they are proud of that.

Also note that Hamilton was canceled, which is pretty funny considering the lie it tells. When I showed a student what Hamilton actually looked like, she was shocked. "I thought he was black!" she exclaimed.

PKsweets's avatar

I’ve always said that Lynn, Manuel Miranda and the production of Hamilton is the original cultural appropriation

Nobody ever talks about that and your comment about the thought that Hamilton the man was black, shows how pervasive that appropriation is

I’ve seen the production three times and each subsequent time it has been changed to allow time for raucous applause at every line that makes some supposed liberal talking point

It’s unwatchable to me now, even though like any fan I know every line — sad 😔

Marilyn's avatar

I never had any desire to see Hamilton, partly because I can’t stand rap music, and because Obama raved about it, so I figured it was liberal BS.

Tom Potts's avatar

And they forgot to include the people who founded our nation, the white men.

NNTX's avatar

Bravo. Let's not forget that our founders faced real danger to their lives, as well as the lives of their families. Not to mention loss of property and fortune.

Unlike the shallow preening folks like Lin Manuel Miranda. Our ancestors happily encouraged cannonball fire into their homes (which the British had commandeered for their headquarters, in Yorktown) in order to prevail in battle. The same founder, Thomas Nelson of Yorktown, died close to poverty due to unpaid debts from the young USA. There are many other tales of heroism and sacrifice not illumined by woke recast of our country's founding,

Operator Dawn's avatar

Don't forget all the loyalists who took off as the war began and some sneaked back into NYC after the war was over,,,their DNA spawned these low life hypocrites

Operator Dawn's avatar

Always beatin up on the Patriarchy,,,our only proof of life.

Ruth H's avatar

My sentiments exactly.

Operator Dawn's avatar

Funny nothing absolutely NOTHING about Hamilton and his life have any connection to a play in the 21st century named Hamilton.

Cranky Frankie's avatar

Miranda shoved this down the Country's throat with his classless speech directed at Mike Pence and his party at a performance.

PKsweets's avatar

Well, we can only hope as they are in New York. Start to enjoy the fruits of collectivism instead of democracy with their new socialist mayor and administration, governing their lives🤦🏻‍♀️ https://x.com/WallStreetApes/status/2007091112444322247?s=20

Roberta L's avatar

I was still a theatre teacher when future high school production rights for Hamilton were announced. My kids were so excited!

But then, we discovered doing the show meant that each role was race specific, per contract. If I didn't have a black student who could portray Jefferson, I was out of luck. Same, if I couldn't cast a white student as George III. It was the most racist rights contract I had encountered in thirty years.

I lost all respect for the show and it's creators at that point.

Notes from the Under Dog L.'s avatar

And to think that over at The Free Press, someone is arguing with me that this race obsession never happened.

PKsweets's avatar

And the only white character is the buffoon King George

It’s so horribly racist

I had no idea about the high school version

What a horrible disgusting shame to lie to kids

Operator Dawn's avatar

Do the Music Man,,much more fun and has a moral at the end.

Roberta L's avatar

I love that show, but my band leader was top in the country and never had the time to pitch in.

I did direct the opening song for a festival - and won.

I'm not sure any high school teacher can produce the classic musicals anymore. Not woke.

Operator Dawn's avatar

my HS did it and we had no problem casting,,,the orchestra ended up being some in school students and some people that were hired to come in.

We did around 8 performances,,so little after all that rehearsal.

Roberta L's avatar

Casting would have been easy. Budget would have been prohibitive. I built a huge program, but was never allotted the funds to run it.

You were fortunate to have 8 performances. We had 6 for Les Mis. It was outstanding, and we turned away people every night (almost 200 the last night), but weren’t allowed to extend the run.

Operator Dawn's avatar

I know,,I wish for a six month run...Yes money up front always a beeeotch

Tell your student she should expand her brain and look at a ten dollar bill some time.

Notes from the Under Dog L.'s avatar

She was a great student. We laughed together at the racist ruse.

Ruth H's avatar

Well not too great if she ever thought Hamilton was black. Has she ever read history or gone to a historical museum?

Notes from the Under Dog L.'s avatar

She's from Brazil. She's young.

I don't think it's helpful to humiliate students for what they don't know.

You're also missing the point -- Hamilton deliberately misleads its audience.

Operator Dawn's avatar

Yes they do mislead on purpose,,look at all the TV commercials today a visitor from another planet would think our country is 90percent not white.

Cat C.'s avatar

If she didn't grow up here, in the USA, that explains it. And I hadn't thought of this, but that was probably part of the plan with "Hamilton" - appeal to the immigrants (legal and illegal).

publius_x's avatar

Well, if she went to the Museum of Natural History she would no longer be able to see a statue of what Teddy Roosevelt looked like. Museums are rewriting history these days.

Operator Dawn's avatar

History is for the RE-writin, don'tcha know, if you are a commie Sooeeee!!!!

Trump raised $30,000,000 in private funds to perform urgent repairs to the facility. IIRC.

How come noone knows that? I didn't see it on Fox or read it in the NYPOSt

Richard Grenell (President of the Kennedy Center’s BoD) talked about in an article interview.

NNTX's avatar

The "Kennedy Center" was originally conceived by Eisenhower iirc. Renamed after the horrors of a cruel assassination of a young but mediocre president.

Operator Dawn's avatar

So its the Eisenhower center,,,Oh Kennedy got a we feel for him award,,,how appropriate for a Demo presidente

Not to mention he advocated for a Federalist centered govt

I never had any desire to see Hamilton and Lin whatever so no loss to me. If President Trump chose it to put his time and money into than I am all for it. JFK was certainly no paragon of virtue and Jackie certainly did her "own thing" so get over yourselves weinies, we won't miss you. Happy New Year.

The irony of JFK is that he could never get the Democrat nomination today. He would be lucky to break 1%.

Absolutely right being a White male and Catholic he wouldn’t get far. Probably wouldn’t have even got elected in Massachusetts

Jeff Keener's avatar

Richard's avatar

Not to mention being a Life Member of the NRA and meaning it (unlike the Bushes).

MyOpinion's avatar

He came close to not winning. People were skeptical of him being Catholic.

Walter Cronkite and JFK were best friends. Before the debate between JFK and Nixon, Cronkite suggested JFK wear make-up, which he did. Nixon declined. Because Nixon didn't wear make up, he sweated profusely and looked sick. It was that debate that won JFK the election.....all because of make up.

Cat C.'s avatar

There's also the fraud in IL (a couple of people went to jail). If that hadn't happened, I don't know if JFK would've won.

Cat C.'s avatar

And after that debate, there were those who listened to it on the radio (not everyone had a TV at that time), and so they didn't see the make up, and they said overwhelmingly that Nixon won the debate and not JFK.

MyOpinion's avatar

That is a fact.

Marilyn's avatar

Biden is a white male and Catholic (sort of).

Richard's avatar

The term of art is Cafeteria Catholic.

Jackson74's avatar

“Sort of” summarizes Biden. He was some sort of President.

Cat C.'s avatar

Just like Harris was "some sort of Vice President".

Richard's avatar

Like Dan Quayle but less coherent.

Cat C.'s avatar

Bless Dan's heart, I think he was a nice guy!

Biden & Pelosi are Catholic, but not practicing Catholics. One priest refused to give Communion to Pelosi.

Catholics are adamantly opposed to abortion. Biden & Pelosi support it.

"But then, I saw how the Left reacted to it, like the wrong kind of person got their handprints on the fine crystal." That is such a brilliant way to describe the Left's reaction to Trump putting his name on the Kennedy Center.

Everything BB said about Muslims is true. But, she had to be vilified to cover it up. Lord knows, we can’t have the truth getting out. Used to be a Leftist, too. Now am a radical conservative and damn proud of it. Let love, light, and laughter shine!

Dena's avatar

Trump truly cared about making the Kennedy Center beautiful again - and saved it. The left didn’t care a bit until Trump the builder made it beautiful again. Same with the big beautiful ballroom. Beauty not allowed in their warped world. The left is shouting right now , but it will pass when they find another victim.

Tom Potts's avatar

Their vision of beauty is the torture chamber that Obama is calling his library in Chicago

Steenroid's avatar

We’ll have you seen what the AWFL look like. No concept of beauty or personal hygiene.

RSgva's avatar

I live in DC and must confess that I used to avoid the Kennedy center because it was hard to get tickets – the best were always taken by the lawyers/doctors/millionaire season holders. When I was invited by somebody a few years ago, it was advertised as a Brahms concert but most of the session was a horrible Washington DC composer that sounded like a construction site. It was right out of the Emperor’s new clothes.

They need to get a little bit better about selling tickets to visitors, students etc. the way they do in Europe.

PapayaSF's avatar

Apparently lots of seats are opening up these days, so things should improve.

I have to admit to a certain amount of schadenfreude even while I find some of Trump's behavior distasteful. The Left is simply insufferable at this point; we need someone like Trump who is so thick-skinned as to be bulletproof to take point and fight them. It's the symbolic things that piss them off the most without really affecting anything in reality. I think that's why he talks shit and renames things. Just to make their heads explode while nothing really happens in the real world.

All those soooo virtuous patrons leaving? what a shame.

I guess maybe an average Joe can get a ticket now - for something other than the trash called Hamilton - I watched 5 minutes and had to turn it off. Putrid.

Danimal28's avatar

Yeah, part of me thought he should leave it alone, but the center is a stale old center of leftism - something JFK would not condone. All the bright new changes Trump is adding is wonderful so I we need to just let it be. Same with the ballroom updates - it was sorely needed and he is privately financing it to save taxpayers money and I love it.

Juju's avatar

And what keeps getting glossed over is how it wasn’t his idea at all. He never asked for it or pursued it. OTHERS wanted to do it, and he just Ok’d it. But it’s talked about as if he boisterously barged into the board room and announced he was adding his name whether they liked it or not. That’s not at all how it went down.

Danimal28's avatar

Great point. At times he is a very humble delegator which is a good sign of a good leader. He is a blue collar guy born into a rich family; Fred Trump - I think - built the first Synagogue in NY post War 2. It is amazing how the narratives from our government have driven us off the rails.
