I believe that California, possibly NY State and Washington State have passed laws stating that their Child Protective Services equivalent agencies can take teenagers out of the home of parents who deny the children "gender-affirming care". We all know that kids as young as 12 can have discussions with their doctors that are confidential and shielded from parents. So it's not a stretch too far to believe that the doctors in NY State determine that Fox Varian "NEEDED" the surgery and that the parents were hamstrung from opposing it.

I'm a HS teacher, and I've seen all of these scenarios so many times. School employees lie to parents and tell teachers and students to lie to parents.

I don't know if it's changed that much in the past 10 years but at least back then, every surgeon I met was conservative and voted GOP. I was an Obama voter back then and they all made fun of me (now I'm a Trump X 3 voter). Fox News always played in the surgeons' lounge.

However, they "Cover it" by twisting themselves into knots trying to discredit the way the story was reported by the "non-legacy" media. Examples - the Mueller report (we all know what it said; MSM pivots to "all the Russian contacts" and "ten examples that COULD be Obstruction of Justice"), the 2020 Georgia ballots that were improperly certified (MSM still sticks with "most free and fair election in history"), the "Russiagate" emails released by current DOJ implicating Obama, Clapper, Brennan and Comey in perpetuation disinformation damaging to Trump, etc. etc. etc. You really can live in this country and get two polar opposite versions of the same story.
This problem is bigger than the doctors. I have two kids who "transitioned" as young adults. I begged, pleaded, offered bribes, did everything I could to get them to reconsider. I was utterly alone, called out as a bigot and transphobe -- and ignored. Literally everyone else in their lives, from doctors to therapists to teachers to friends to other family members to influencers was fiercely supporting and/or advocating for transitioning. Even my own wife fell victim to the lie that she'd have two dead kids by suicide unless she went along with this nonsense. i see that Alan, good point, but it still defies my ability to fathom how this much extremity can be so concealed.
This problem is bigger than the doctors. I have two kids who "transitioned" as young adults. I begged, pleaded, offered bribes, did everything I could to get them to reconsider. I was utterly alone, called out as a bigot and transphobe -- and ignored. Literally everyone else in their lives, from doctors to therapists to teachers to friends to other family members to influencers was fiercely supporting and/or advocating for transitioning. Even my own wife fell victim to the lie that she'd have two dead kids by suicide unless she went along with this nonsense. So this is a whole-of-society problem -- and society has lost its collective mind.
But I guess you gotta start somewhere, so I'm delighted to see a couple of doctors pay. I still pray each day that at least one of my kids will come to their senses.
