This is so true - "even on his worst day, Trump is funnier than they are." Trump really is a comedic genius. Like a true comedian, his stuff is funny even when he isn't trying. We all know people who can riff on almost anything and crack us up. Trump is one of those people. According to the non-funny folks you write about, presidents are supposed to be SERIOUS all the time. So, it doubly pisses them off that he is funny and they aren't and he isn't supposed to be funny.

Fred Richmond's avatar

Important to keep in mind that Kimmel isn't funny, it's his anonymous army of writers who make him sound funny.

Trump is spontaneously funny.

Indrek Sarapuu's avatar

Naaaah.

Even with writers, this guy could never be funny, and never will...

Brian M's avatar

Jimmy Kimmel knows his bread is buttered by the far Left Establishment. That is why he tries so hard to appease them with constant attacks on Trump and other conservatives. Kimmel knows he is nothing without the support of the Left Media Establishment and fears for his career.

Cooper Raymond's avatar

He's going after the same audience as Rachel Maddow.

AWFL's.

Angry White Female Liberals...and their beta husbands.

Cooper Raymond's avatar

He was funnier before he became woke.

Only question is whether he was woke before he wore black face to get laughs; woke before he made sexist jokes to get laughs; or married into wokeness?

Brian M's avatar

"Fake resistance" That is the perfect way to frame Jimmy Kimmel and all of the Progressive Left. They like to pretend they are "standing up to the Man". But they ARE the Man. They ARE the totalitarian and fascist Establishment. If they want to rebel and resist than they can join the populist conservative movement who defy the Media Machine which lies endlessly

Beeswax's avatar

I've observed that the TDS pod people can only experience Trump through a lens covered in excrement (their's). They don't notice his sense of humor, because it would require that they feel a positive emotion about him. Not allowed.

Let them exercise their funny bones over Kimmel the Nebbish.

Sharon ShihTzu's avatar

Nebbish. A great description of Jimmy Kimmel.

Beeswax's avatar

Great! I was afraid I went a little too deep into the Yiddish. Of course I could also have used putz or shlimazl.

Sharon ShihTzu's avatar

😂😂 you could have used any number of Yiddish words I would have understood. And as for the ones who don’t understand, they can always google it.

Is trump being funny when he insults democrats and any one who opposes him ALL THE TIME. Remember Trump’s use of Hitler rhetoric from a Veteran’s Day speech, 2023 saying, “We pledge to you that we will root out the communists, Marxists, fascists, and the radical left thugs that live like VERMIN within the confines of our country.” He's always calling them "radical leftwing lunatics", "sick", "deranged" , the "enemy within", etc. His Madison Square Gardens even was full of crude and racist comments.

Magdalene's avatar

Ok, boomer👌🏻

Dick Minnis's avatar

And your point? Trump just happens to be right about them however crude his speech.

NWCitizen's avatar

I certainly don't agree. He thinks he has all the answers and hates anyone who doesn't agree with him about anything.

Dick Minnis's avatar

Of course he thinks he has all the answers. Most politicians do. However, I think you're conflating his arrogant New Yorker personality with hate. there is a difference IMO.

NWCitizen's avatar

His words clearly reflect hate, bullying & threats.

Trapped in IL's avatar

When you behave like Marxist vermin then it shouldn’t surprise anyone that that is what you are called. He tells it like he sees it.

NWCitizen's avatar

I don't think people are "vermin." Hitler was famous for thinking people were "vermin."

Do you know what happens when you enter the ring to go toe to toe with the American Yorkshire?

And do you know what happens when you keep oxygen away from fire?

Sharon ShihTzu's avatar

Your seriousness about Trump is what's hysterically funny. Continue to knock yourself out. It's entertaining.

MissLadyK's avatar

I’ve circled around many times, but you are so right!

Sharon ShihTzu's avatar

Trump is hysterically funny. He's a natural! When I discovered this during his first presidency I was absolutely delighted.

Kimmel’s and his wife's singular obsession with Donald J. Trump has transformed what used to be comedy for everybody into nothing more than pandering sycophants serving up lies and gaslighting to his wealthy, entitled, privileged viewers - who are actually closet communists - hiding in the far left Democrat Party of Barack Hussein Obama and Valerie Jarrett.

And they are using George Orwell's playbook to do it.

NothingButNet's avatar

Kimmel has become what every comedian fears - boring and predictable. Goodnight and goodbye, Jimmy….

Kathleen McCook's avatar

I don't think I have ever watched him or seen him except coverage of him. I do not think he is an important figure.

Wade E Charnock's avatar

Forever...goodbye...forever Jimmy...you are not funny...except to laugh at for your TDS!!

Cranky Frankie's avatar

When Trump is gone, if Kimmel and his network still exist, there will be some other Red Devil to target as stupid, bigoted and the icon of an imaginary people who are lesser, allowing the sad, eclipsed elites to feel superior.

Jason Wyman's avatar

No, Donald Trump now has firm control of the zeitgeist. You can call it TDS. But Democrats have TDS. Republicans have TDS, and Trump himself has TDS. He is the sun around which all news and entertainment orbits. There's no denying it. Barack Obama and Valerie Jarrett are hasbeens in this new world. The more you focus on them the better. You'll miss what's going on right under your nose.

Mark Adams's avatar

The Left engages in an astounding degree of projection. Everything they accuse conservatives of doing is what they do. Sasha nails it: Leftists with fascist inclinations labeling others as fascists.

R H's avatar

That is their playbook and has been for years. It's slowly being realized by the "normies" and they feel it slipping away. Therefore they behave like cornered animals. It'll get much worse before it gets better. The more they lose, the less they have to lose, and the ones with nothing left to lose are the most dangerous people.

Interesting that Jimmy is delivering his screed in the UK, which isn't exactly a bastion of free speech these days. People there aren't happy - they want their own version of Trump. Even Ellen wants to come back!

Bleonard3's avatar

Don’t forget it was after the airing of a speech by an actual King.

Jeff Keener's avatar

A delicious irony. Kimmel can't go on a "No Kings" rant, because the Brits actually love their kings and queens.

SyberPhule's avatar

Umm, not all of them. Or most of them, for that matter.

If you look at how few people are watching him it’s obvious he is the elites jester. He thinks he’s in the elite group. But the true elites look at him like 🐕 💩 on the bottom of their shoe. He’s just too full of himself to realize it.

Skenny's avatar

Those late night TV guys threw in the towel on trying to be funny. Dave Chappelle, Ricky Gervais, and a few other comedians are funny. But Kimmel, Fallon, Colbert, etc. are merely democrat shills, humor be damned.

Magdalene's avatar

Chappelle just genuflected to his elite paymasters in a Colin Kaepernick jersey

I saw that. Totally disgusted me- used to love Chapelle back to the days of the Chapelle Show. Not so much anymore- he’s become just like the rest- I turned the new special off after 20 minutes.

The others, I have never watched.

You forgot John Oliver...

"the same people pretending to be fighting fascism are the fascists." That's the kind of truth-speaking to power that gets one labeled "toxic". As is the almost correct observation that the Left can freely offend the Right because they’ve dehumanized them for ten long years. To be totally correct, change "ten" to "fifty". You can trust me on the fifty - I grew up in L.A. 50 years ago, and I know.

Jim M's avatar

Check out my reply above. ENJOY!

NNTX's avatar

Yes. I think that is what causes them to yell even louder, as if an increase in volume will make us care.

Their “take” is juvenile and not worth our attention.

Sadly, the division they incite in the unthinking folks that listen to them IS something we must consider, esp when it causes the Left to be violent.

Lisa's avatar

The fact that Kimmel is shooting his mouth off abroad—in the UK of all places—shows him to be even more of a coward than I thought. Remember that old expression: Come over and say that to my face!

Sue Kelley's avatar

Even talking about someone like him gives them the oxygen they need. Like toddlers even bad attention is better than no attention. In years past his ratings would have sunk the show decades ago. NGOs and our own co opted tax dollars support his propaganda.

This idiot dressed in black face to lampoon basketball players and made his living having large breasted women jump on trampolines. He is tasteless talentless and a waste of the air in his lungs.

If you really want to punish him, ignore him. ( It used to drive Hollywood types bat shit crazy when they would come into the hospital as patient or visitor and I wouldn't give in to their entitlement. They would ALWAYS say"DON'T YOU KNOW WHO I AM????" I would always answer" No, should I??". )

Casey Jones's avatar

Almost spot on. But it can't be just any old attention!

steven t koenig's avatar

I'm unconcerned with that twit. One of the benefits of having taken television out of my life 38 years ago.

Keith Jajko's avatar

I quit TV in 2012 and it was among the biggest pro-health moves ever. I first heard Kimmel on a morning radio show on KROQ-FM in L.A., where he was Jimmy the Sports guy, and he was modestly humorous. (The morning show hosts were hilarious and set him up nicely). That funny bone was removed some time ago and I've never watched any of his TV shit. He's just cashing in on all the Pharma advertising money as fast as he can before that ends (probably soon) and he moves away as a retired Failed Comedian in Italy. Italians won't find him funny, either. He doesn't care. When his mouth opens just imagine the sound of a huge Pharma cash register. Ca-CHING!

Casey Jones's avatar

You have me by a few years. But all that I was watching that long ago was BritComs.

Richard's avatar

Just a reminder that Kimmel is free to spout his nonsense. Meanwhile, the UK is arresting 40 people per day for social media posts and canceling local elections that Reform would probably win. Chancellor of Germany has filed 5000 criminal complaints against people who have insulted him. That's when he isn't getting ready for another go at Russia or figuring out how to ban AfD. Macron has banned le Pen from running for President and is trying to establish a list of "trusted" media. We don't have common values and they are not democracies.

Libertarian's avatar

They’re not just arresting anyone; they’re arresting and imprisoning anyone who criticizes Israel’s genocide of Palestinians.

Just like the anti-fascist are now the fascist, the anti-Nazis are now the Nazis.

John Harrington's avatar

There is no genocide of Palestinians. If Israel is committing genocide, they're doing a historically bad job of it -- there are 2 million Palestinians, and they have among the highest birth rates in the world.

Richard's avatar

Actually they are arresting people who say anything about the(Islamic) rape gangs or seaborne invaders. ProHamas people only sometimes get arrested when they physically block traffic or try to blow up synagogues. That's indeed two tier since the trannies and eco-terrorists can do that with impunity.

Notes from the Under Dog L.'s avatar

Yes, could someone please explain to me how it is these people "don't know" that there was horrific censorship for over ten years, over the most anodyne utterances in many cases ("there are two sexes") (I don't want penises in women's locker rooms)....

Seriously. How. Do. They. Not. Know. This.

The other day, someone with 'deport the racists, not the immigrants' as her background photo on FB posted a clip of Vance saying "you don't have to apologize for being white' with some gas lighting creature shrugging as if Vance were inventing the rationale for stating this out of whole cloth. So I get on and say, Where were you for the past ten years? (Nicer than that, I said this). People were apologizing for being white! It was all over social media!

She then has to acknowledge this, but then says, White men were historically evil though.

It truly is as if the country is divided between those who can smell the b.s. and those who smear it all over themselves.

Cat C.'s avatar

I hope you came back with evidence that white men HAVEN'T been historically as evil other ethnicities/races!!! Because that's the truth. In fact, the Christian white race has been more charitable than most, if not all other races, as far as I can tell. OH, and let this woman know that she must NOT ever again use a flushing toilet, because a WHITE British (straight) MALE invented it!

Notes from the Under Dog L.'s avatar

I did almost say that -- white men have done a great deal for this world! These people aren't thinking through what they're saying. It's so depressing. BUT! She took down the post, so that's hopeful.

Dave Slate's avatar

My impression of a brief "anti-racist" history of the world:

Once upon a time, Indigenous People of Color lived happy, healthy lives, in harmony with nature and each other. Then, due to a perverse quirk of evolution, white people came along and ruined everything!

Trapped in IL's avatar

What they should be apologizing for is being stupid.

Jim M's avatar

Every morning I check the headlines in the NY TImes (I use archive.ph on Firefox to bypass their paywall), NY Post (as I kid, I delivered the post to the building AOC now lives in; but stopped after getting mugged for the 3rd time making collections for my route- this was in the 70's), and to read actual NEWS I go to the CBS News app on my phone.

Just sayin'.

I saw the screaming Post headline about Kimmell. And...well...I found it boring. After a DECADE of ''Trump Bad", and ESPECIALLY after he took a bullet to his head...I'm just bored.

Not just by Kimmel et al. I cancelled HBO back in '18/19? b/c all that Brit Oliver did was Trump this and Trump that, and I could get that crap on ANY late night show... BORING... Which is funny, b/c I cut the cable shortly after. And I'm a Boomer.

But...and here's the red-flag, Sasha...

The people on our side, splitting spleens is getting kinda played out too.

Today, driving to see my daughter and family for Boxing Day my wife & I listened to the All In Podcast Christmas party w/ special guest Tony Hinchcliffe. Yeah, I heard the caterwauling about his appearance at the rally in NYC last election cycle. Yeah, I heard about his stuff on Netflix & Youtube, but I never listened to him before.

I laughed my ass off the entire show.

It wasn't too political (despite one of the hosts in the Cabinet! )

IT WAS JUST FUNNY.

As a small gift to you and the rest of our gang out here on this Substack, here's the link:

Nope. Why would I want to see a clip of something I chose not to watch initially?

Dutchmn007's avatar

Ironically Kimmel’s spouting this blather in the UK - where they lock people up for what they say on SM!!! Can’t make this stuff up folks! There’s no “free speech” in Europe anymore; they have become the very thing they fought against in the Second World War.

Truth is Kimmel’s already ruined he just doesn’t know it yet. He’s obsessed with Trump - TDS on steroids. Kimmel is no longer a “comedian” in the classic sense but as you say a court jester playing to the ruling “progressive” establishment. Only those on that side of the aisle will take him seriously from now on. He’s burned his bridges with everyone else - not that he cares. Think he’s on record saying he doesn’t. So his show morphs into what the now canceled Stephen Colbert was; an unfunny, partisan hack fest full of like-minded politicos, “me too-ism”, & jibes at Trump & any/all Republicans.

That sound like a recipe for ratings success?

Matt L.'s avatar

Comedy isn’t completely dead. I recently went to see live Dave Chappelle show. It was great. We had to place our phones inside locked pouches for the duration of the show. So as not to pre share it or for anyone to film a clip and give fuel to cancel culture. You can now go watch it on Netflix (just released).

The best part of show (IMO) was warm up act, Donnell Rawlings, and Dave’s longtime loyal friend. For those of you who enjoyed the ‘Chappelle Show’, Donnell closed every episode with “I’m rich, biaaaaatch!”

Night of show was Donnell’s birthday and he said he “was so happy that Trump was President because now he could say whatever the F he wanted to”

And then he did, at full volume and lots of energy. What a great comic!
