The murder happened 32 years ago. She should have been executed 30 years ago, providing time for a rational appeals process. This would have been have been before the lethal injection lunacy. Executions are not supposed to be kinder and gentler. They are to exact retribution for heinous acts. The alternative is private justice by the victim's family and friends.

Here is my advice to the state of Tennessee: try using fentanyl as your lethal drug. It kills instantly and very effectively. Look at the homeless in the streets of big cities for evidence.

Firing squad is pretty effective too...

David Poe's avatar

And much like the term, gender affirming care is used, a firing squad may be called end of life care.

Casey Jones's avatar

Yup. Only a government could eff up an execution.

As a person who just recently had a hospital visit culminate with two "blown" veins attempting to insert an iv catheter .... I am not shocked at the level of INCOMPETANCE found throughout this country.

Pacificus's avatar

This incompetence is especially evident in "health care."

The same doctor in charge of this botched execution was involved in another botched one in TN last year. I’d bet not a coincidence.

My thoughts exactly.

No Sasha, the NYT said it was just an “altercation” in the cockpit.

jemarr's avatar

Well, in the NYT's defense, they only had 5 "journalists" listed on the article this a.m., where they described the co-pilot as an "Omani national," but made no mention of his religion or what he was shouting in the cockpit (care to guess?). I'm sure they'll keep digging.

That was going to be Israel’s 9/11. And all would have died before that because fighter jets were scrambled. What a disaster averted.

Maybe we should get the Canadians to help with these executions.

Laura Goodwin's avatar

Death by firing squad would be so much more effective.

Use fentynal. Can buy some on most street corners. And its cheaper

Hahhhaa! This is hilariously great sentence/logline: "It’s a “Fool me once, then FAFO” level of badassery rarely seen."

Now, I wanna see "The Plummer" so bad!

I wanna see Ebeneezer!

Ironic when a supposedly more humane method of execution than, say, the firing squad, turns out to be less humane. A humane execution is quick and effective.

To snore through an execution! The cheek!

There are some old-fashioned ways to kill a criminal which work.

Not all are equally entertaining to witness.

I can think of 2 methods that worked reliably before pharmacy wanted a piece of the action.

1) Hanging

2) Firing Squad

I'm sure other Methods can be added to my short list.

Jim I's avatar

It was intentionally botched.

Casey Jones's avatar

I read (yeah, gak) that it was an all-women lethal injection team. Do we now add Executioner Nullification to Jury Nullification as source of Not Justice?

Rick's avatar

I think I read a few days ago that the condemned bitch had requested NO MEN in her final moments.

I can then imagine a WOMAN JUDGE signing off on such a ridiculous request.

After all we must humanely kill a Monster, right ?

Casey Jones's avatar

Or not-kill -- as happened.

Brian DeLeon's avatar

They injected her based on their feelings.

Casey Jones's avatar

One does suspect...

I am not a proponent of capital punishment for a few reasons. Modern social media makes trials biased from the start, delivering the order has got to weigh on a person's soul, it's too easy to make mistakes, and all the appeals cost far too much. Then something like this happens and you have to wonder, what lunatics are running the asylum?

There are cases where capital punishment is the only solution (terrorism, serial killers, heinous acts caught in progress), but that should be carried out quickly. Evil people are in this world, and I think a lifetime of solitary confinement may serve justice better. No parole. No endless appeals. No visitors.

Just my opinion, but the 30+ years from sentence to punishment is unjust for the victims.

Maybe it’s time to bring back the electric chair, gas chambers maybe even firing squads. I don’t know.

Alabama has executed seven people by nitrogen asphyxiation. It is foolproof, as the perp goes to sleep as the oxygen depletes to zero. It doesn't require any poisons or caustic chemicals. But some leftwing Federal Judge ruled against that too. Explosive decompression is another humane way because it causes instant unconsciousness. The Air Force trains its pilots on it, so they'll know how fast they lose consciousness without air in their lungs. The pilots are instantly revived, without ill effects, but report the loss of consciousness is too fast to cause physical or mental agony.

Societies fall when they become bureaucratic and silly, with government-paid judges taking the lead over elected officials in governance. Western Europe may already be past the point of ever recovering its civilization. Canada is next in line to fall to criminals and barbarians, and then maybe us.

As for the lady in Tennessee, maybe it's not a bad thing she felt pain, as she spent some time torturing another human being to death. Still, the nitrogen asphyxiation or explosive decompression is a better method.
