It’s so simple to win any election a Democrat has to lie about what they truly want and believes. If they ever admit to what they truly want they would never win any election where they can not rig the results.

Just like they could never justify their abortion stance if they ever had to describe in detail the process of an abortion.

The problem is Mamdani is not lying. He, AOC, Bernie Sanders actually believe in socialism. We know the cost to prove them wrong is too great. How this unwinds in NY???

KARYN TRUITT's avatar

He may say he believes in it, but his family didn't accumulate 65 million dollars practicing Socialism...

Steve G's avatar

What a socialists has and what he wants for you are two entirely different things.

reality speaks's avatar

He is telling them he is going to solve all of their problems and the rich are going to pay for it. That’s the lie. The rich will never pay. They either own him outright and have bought a loophole or they can just move to Florida or Texas. The only people who end up paying are those that can’t afford to get the hell out of NYC. IE the poor and the middle class

Kathleen's avatar

What happens when Mamdani runs out of other people’s money?

John Bevevino's avatar

Theoretically the experiment ends. If high income earners abandon the city, it should end quickly. The problem is that there will be a high propensity to violence for those who remain.

Roger Beal's avatar

Proof of Mamdani's sincerity will be if he enacts an exit tax on assets moved out of metro NYC by businesses and individuals fleeing his policies.

Tom Kennedy's avatar

He could use the “California exit tax” plan - which is a proposed wealth tax, not yet enacted as of February 2025, that would affect high-net-worth individuals leaving the state. Key points of the proposal include:

It would target individuals with a net worth exceeding $30 million ($15 million for married taxpayers filing separately).

The proposed tax rate is 0.4% on net worth above these thresholds.

If enacted, it could apply for up to 10 years after leaving the state.

The tax would encompass various assets, including stocks and investments, while California real estate would be taxed separately.

It aims to close loopholes in capital gains tax regulations.

This proposed tax may also apply to individuals leaving California for international destinations, not just for other US states.

Litr8r's avatar

It's in the works here in Hellinois.

Roger Beal's avatar

Mr. David White, please read Tim's comnent.

Joni Lang's avatar

They already do that in CA.

David White's avatar

That will not pass constitutional muster.

Roger Beal's avatar

Maybe true ... but the process (and the delays in second circuit court appeals) will be the punishment inflicted on the sane folks who leave.

reality speaks's avatar

The last thing Bernie wants is socialism he is the biggest grifter of all time just take the money from Hilary in 2016 and buy another house

Tom Kennedy's avatar

After the socialists take New York, a movie called "Gone with the Wind - Part 2" will have scene where a character playing a muslim Imam called Mamdani, will stand up and shout - "It quitting time for capitalism and Christianity."

It'll be a horror movie!

R H's avatar

It'll be "Escape from New York 2" but no Snake Plissken to save them this time. It's going to be glorious to watch the center of Demoncat power descend into a barren Hellscape of a modern day Sodom and Gomorrah.

A Democratic party which champions the nomination of a self-proclaimed democratic socialist and transparent antisemite, indicates that they've also adopted a racial spoils system based on identity politics as their path leadership. Others see this as a clueless act of internal sabotage.

Except that we won 2 (actually 3) elections on Donald Trump doing *exactly* what he said he would as President.

See, I understand when your side lies to me or my side lies to you. That's politics. But YOUR side lied to YOU...about Biden's decline, about Harris's real chances, about everything from the "hard evidence of collusion" that Adam Schiff was supposedly keeping in his office drawer to the effectiveness of Covid shots to Hunter Biden's laptop.

Or maybe they didn't lie to you. Maybe you were one of those people who was in on the con the whole time and carried their water like a good foot soldier. But every Democrat in America falls into one of two categories. Either you were lied to by your own leaders or you helped them lie to everyone else. There is no Option C, and neither of the existing options is a recommendation for taking any of you seriously.

John Bevevino's avatar

This is correct. They are either gaslighting or gaslit.

Whoa there, scooter.

You said "MAGA liars" and then you started talking about GW Bush *who is NOT MAGA*. His VP (and his loathsome family) are on YOUR side, not mine.

Once again, you've entered a discussion without really knowing what you think. You just know you must keep arguing, regardless of what ridiculous things leave your mouth.

The election was "stolen". The definition I'm using for that word is an appropriate one.

"Communist/socialist" is meaningless semantics, a distinction without a difference.

And no, we're not saints. But we are right about a whole slew of important issues and you and yours are flat-out wrong. America is waiting on you to either admit it or say you never will admit it. We'll know how to deal with you by which you choose.

Here are a couple of quick ones:

Biden is fine, he is working all day helping America, The Border is closed, followed by, see need more legislation to close the border, the Republicans have shut the government down (ask Fetterman), the 2020 election was not corrupt, Trumps tariffs are failing. I could go one for a long time.

Steve G's avatar

None are so blind as those who will not see.

Trapped in IL's avatar

Saw another Dem on a different Substack say that Trump had over 30,000 lies during his first presidency. For some reason the lefties can make many an accusation, but never have the proof or receipts to show for their outrageous lies.

Cat C.'s avatar

I remembered that WashPost or NYT or Politico posted about 100 of those supposed lies and I responded in the comments by refuting, with the facts, of about 50 of them. It took a long time to do that and I wished I'd copied it, because within minutes, they took my post down (this was before Elon bought Twitter and before the calls to STOP squelching our free speech!)

I lived under socialism when growing up behind the Iron Curtain.

The promises of Mamdani result in Empty Shelves and that’s not only thing that is empty. America beware!

I’ve seen the empty shelves. I’ve seen the lines. This is what they don’t understand. I used to say every high school senior should spend time behind the iron curtain before they go to college.

Trapped in IL's avatar

Now they go to college and are educated in the ways of socialism and communism. They are taught to hate capitalism. Don’t send your children to college unless you can stupid-proof them before they go.

Susan Vonder Heide's avatar

Exactly. Parents need to start educating their children when they are toddlers. Don't let them get to college with a mind full of mush. Homeschooling is a great idea. If that is not possible, at least provide the truth at home in abundance.

fuzzi's avatar

I recall reading that before, good article. Thank you for reminding us how socialism "works"!

Kurt's avatar

Sasha, wonderful job unmasking the poser class, the vapid and the vacuous who will decide NYC’S election in favor of the deceitful one. The clear and succinct way you assemble your material and construct your case so matter-of-factly makes your conclusions common sense.

I have lived in Manhattan for over 30 years. My daughter was two and my wife was pregnant when 9/11 struck. We had a keyboard on our roof and our building was in the dust cloud of the towers. We got out with the clothes on our backs. We never thought of leaving. But now, I’m leaving this time. Enough of the crazies. These are the ones who tried to jail Daniel Penny and Trump. Enough.

Roger Beal's avatar

Get out before comrade Zohran institutes an exit tax on the assets of departees.

Kurt's avatar

Yes, the Zohrantifada is coming! Soon!

Trapped in IL's avatar

Right! Pritzker and other Illinois Dems are trying to institute that here. Exit tax for anyone who sells their home or dares to leave. Gotta keep the money flowing.

Richard's avatar

At the end of the day, NYC is unimportant. It only gets attention because all of the media is there, including conservative media. They can afford their luxury beliefs because Wall Street funds them. There is no reason why Wall Street needs to be centralized there or anywhere else. So the exodus accelerates. J P Morgan already has more employees in TX than NYC. There are some great photo essays about abandoned Detroit and I am looking forward to the NYC version.

Kurt's avatar

The deals get done in NYC. The finance jobs outside NY are back office, paper-shuffling, of which there are legions. The client-facing investment banking is collected in NY for one-stop shopping for investors. Big difference.

Richard's avatar

The deals can be made anywhere or several places at once. Wall Street as a place is obsolete and it is just inertia that keeps it there. Inertia will break under the rising dysfunction.

Richard's avatar

If Wall Street chooses to go down with the ship, that is on them. Something new will arise to take their place. We can hope it isn't Beijing.

Notes from the Under Dog L.'s avatar

What I want to know is, how is it that so many on the 'left' seem to have no idea of the hysterical hell that they created over race in the past ten years? They seriously have no clue somehow. They don't get what Trump is doing to untangle this hell. They're shilling against 'authoritarianism' after heaping racial authoritarians on the populace for years.

In order to be on the left, one must have no clue as to how causes reap effects.

Buff McCharen's avatar

Socialism is always democratic and emancipatory in its aspirations, but oppressive and authoritarian in its actual practice.

HEIDI's avatar

Truthfully, those ' fleeing from all over the world just for the chance to live here and be free' are ONLY here for the free stuff. Madmani know that, as do all demoncrats who understand that slavery isn't free, but it's profitable for them.

Kurt's avatar

And NY dems know how to dole out free stuff! Under Biden admin, 20% of all NYC hotel rooms were for illegals. This was a $5 Billion, no-bid contract with the hotel trade association. Highest price possible. Zero discount for years of guaranteed occupancy. And it gets better. Free three meals a day, free health care and free education. All for walking across the border. You’d be stupid not to take the biscuits when they are passed.

Paul Scofield's avatar

Quite right. Certainly since the Hart–Celler Act was passed in 1965.

Jeff Keener's avatar

Only those who have never lived under a socialist regime advocate for it.

Show me the socialist state where millions of refugees from free-market capitalism are fleeing to.

BBS's avatar

NYC has a population of , roughly, 8 million. Nearly 2 million of those are on SNAP/Food Stamps. The fact is these people do not have the luxury of considering the almost certain increase in crime and filth that will result should Mamdani win and his policies are put in place. What a sad state of affairs when the Democrats have to choose between a known criminal and a socialist/communist.

Either way, they are screwed.

Tom Servo's avatar

They'll get what they voted for. I have zero sympathy for them.

Roger Beal's avatar

But when the results of their bad choices impact them, they move to where YOU and I live, bringing those bad policies with them.

BBS's avatar

Even if they stay where they are, they expect the rest of us to bail them, along with their bad choices, out, with cash. NO! Just NO!

Buff McCharen's avatar

Yes! No bailouts and no government funding!

BBS's avatar

And you just know that is coming.

BBS's avatar

Exactly. They have backed themselves into a corner. That the choice is between Mamdani and Cuomo only highlights the Democrat party's overall incompetence, corruption, and rot.

Jeff Keener's avatar

Kirn hits an important point. AOC is brainless. She simply makes up history. In her speech at the Mamdani socialists rally, she explained that "In America, we have unconditional freedom!"

Oh, really? Besides that being utterly false, the day before she was telling us that we are living under a dictatorship. The day before that she was telling us that we are living under a monarchy.

Brainless twits.

When do they realize that they themselves are the rich? How long will the rich stay rich when they are the piggybank? When does the Wealth Flight begin?

When does Smarmy Mamdani realize that it's a lot easier to be an Islamist than a Socialist? Islamic Law in Muslim neighborhoods! Isn't that what his largest block of supporters really wants? Isn't his Socialism just a fig leaf for his Islamism?

Roberta L's avatar

Why do so many women find smarmy, oily, repellent reptiles like Mamdani and Newsom attractive? Even Sasha calls Mamdani “charming!”

Yuck.

The only feeling men like them have ever generated in me is that I need to take a shower!

Suzie's avatar

Life is hard. That’s what Mamdani’s devotees think they are going to change.

When a politician tells you he’s going to make life easy- or even better: make things free, run for the hills!

Nothing is free. Nothing is easy.
