What came first? Tap dancing or...

Answer: Irish step dancing, which evolved into clogging in Appalachia. Clogging went on to influence tap.

Just one more example of the silliness of those accusations of "cultural appropriations".

Thank you for clarifying the origins of tap dance in all of its remarkable forms D. Love it!

Having done both Irish dancing in my youth and tap dancing up until my mid 40’s I can really appreciate the dance performance at the WH - though I do get the point that you, Sasha are making. I have so many inspirations from Black performers in the States, white too, but the Black people of America are just so talented in this area and there are too many to name here. And Irish Michael Flatley…no words! I saw Lord of the Dance performance here on the Gold Coast some years ago. Mind blowing!

And Ho-Ho-hum to the WH. They’re playing with y’all. Three of our six kids did dance classes, ballet, jazz and tap and to be honest, for me, tap is the most fun of all.

Do you know why the Irish dancing is done with hands down beside them rather than as we do it tap dancing? There’s a history there. The Irish had their traditional dance long before the Norman takeover of that beautiful country (my ancestor was given in marriage to my husband’s ancestor to cement this takeover - spooky aye? Their dancing was eventually forbidden by the English after they conquered their country (the usual way) and people used to meet in secrecy to perform their time honored traditions. If they were meeting in secluded glens and forests they would keep their hands beside them so as not to attract attention from the English army lurking nearby otherwise the dance of death would be the last dance they would ever do.

But as for this present administration in the WH, how I wish that they would all just “shuffle off to Buffalo” (a tap dancing term if you’re not familiar with it) while Trump does “wings” (another tap term) while literally waiting in the wings for the principal performance. Then we’d clap loudly and ask for an encore.

Thank you for this wonderful comment. And for teaching me something new! I did not know why Irish dancing was done with their hands down. Always a pleasure to learn new things.

The left does this stupid crap because they only see people as collectives, never as individuals. They can't say that individual white people did bad things in the past; ALL white people must be guilty. Which is incredibly dangerous.

I shudder when I think of anyone attempting to abolish the Electoral College. That would be the end of our Constitutional Republic. It's a means for the least-populated states (flyover states) to have a say in the Presidential election. Without it, Presidential candidates would need only concentrate on the population centers to gain the popular vote. Those states that supply food, energy, consumer products, etc, for the cities, would be at the mercy of the city's voters who are not very aware of how all those products come to their door. Taxation without representation was a reason we revolted against King George III. People seem to be ignorant of the reason for the Electoral College - that it has somehow stopped being useful. When you hear that argument, you are likely not listening to someone who prefers our republic. In other words, a Democrat. Beware!

“That would be the end of our Constitutional Republic.”

What makes you think it hasn’t already ended? A society needs at least some degree of trust for cohesion to be a country. Ours is nonexistent and in fact has been replaced by hate. No society so devoid of trust and so full of hate can survive as a nation. That’s basically our situation in a nutshell.

I agree we are on a slippery slope that is very worrisome. Something that I haven't witnessed at this level in my lifetime. I was addressing the Electoral College that gives each state a few votes for the president. It requires Presidential candidates to acknowledge the needs of all these states and not just focus on the cities where they can rack up popular votes. I wish I were optimistic but I'm not.

The democrats want to get rid of the Electoral College because it gets in the way of their total control of the country. That’s all that matters to them. I believe America is disintegrating and our whole world is in a tailspin. John Mearsheimer is a political science and international affairs expert at the University of Chicago. Here’s an excellent interview with him talking about Ukraine and Gaza that I just watched. Fascinating to listen to someone so intelligent about such important issues for our global well being. I also recommend following the incredibly rapid advance of AI. I believe this is the only thing that can save us. Too many things are too far out of control for us to survive without the help of AI. Here’s a good video I recently watched about how rapidly it’s advancing.

That was sooo excellent Ken. Thanks for sharing. Was just chatting w/ wife the other night about divisions that occurred in our neighborhood between minority of people who would not go along w/ masking/vaccines, and the majority who would not interact w/ them (or thier kids) as a result. And how that rift still remains, post CV-19, as neighborhood holiday parties commence. People want to conform so badly, they go along w/ ostracism (mob mentality). We as an entire country have yet to reflect back and ask forgiveness for stripping people of jobs, social status, and individual freedom & dignity. The mob doesn’t want to admit they bought into a lie and whacked people over the head w/ that lie. What a mess our country is as a result. The bit by Tucker about social leaders who criticize government have an increasingly high overlap to being charged w/ rape or kiddie porn. Al Gore wants to ban substack & rumble…. When will the Epstein flight logs ever be published? Maybe about the time we see the full Panama Papers, which means never.

You have less than three weeks to stop saying "have a nice weekend". The innocent political prisoners won't be having a 'nice weekend'. The citizens who have had the notice that they are 'persons of interest' for their memes won't be having a 'nice weekend'. The journalists now being harassed by the FBI won't be having a 'good weekend'. The business owners being defunded by the deep state won't be having a 'good weekend'. People, no civil war started with the first bullet (cyber attack) it started months (years) before that.

Jill Biden will not be dropping off warm clothes or basic foodstuffs to a neighbor in need this Christmas (unless it’s on camera, and she can take a shower afterwards). AOC will not be shopping at the local Goodwill for Christmas presents. Claudine Gay will not be standing in the aisle of a supermarket and wondering if she can pay the gas bill this month and still put a decent Christmas dinner on the table for her family. However, I can assure you that these things are happening here in southeastern Ohio and SO MANY OTHER PLACES in the United States. The distance between the deplorables (white, black, brown, you name it) and the posers mentioned above has now become astronomical.

I don’t care if people don’t want to put Christ back in Christmas. That ship has sailed. Christmas has long been simply a by-the-book scheme to stimulate the economy. However, can’t somebody try not to diminish the holiday any further? That White House hootenanny is empty and desolate and cynical. Are we now only able to enjoy Christmas by celebrating causes that have nothing to do with Christmas? Jesus Christ!

I think that they have made nearly half the country almost completely dependent on local/state/federal government through either employment (eg teachers, cops, academia, defense, etc), welfare, EBT, medical services or social security. And that these people then vote for the party they associate with their income and money. They have essentially re-established slavery and they sustain it by ensuring the public school system continues to most definitely not educate the poor. So the slaves keep voting for their next “free” lunch.

Here’s a good video showing a clip of Speaker of the House Mike Johnson asking Congressman Nadler if noncitizens can vote in NYC. This is obviously what they want in key localities to swing the vote to them so they will have more power to grind us into the dirt. In Illinois Governor Pritzker got a law passed allowing noncitizens to be police starting Jan 1, 2024. The migrants are here illegally but next year they can be law enforcement officers in Illinois. What a farce. This is just not working at all.

"Racism" and "antisemitism" are verbal weapons invented by leftists. Antisemitism was first. It was coined by a Jewish intellectual from Austria in a debate with a French Christian philosopher. Jews picked up on the term and turned it into a weapon. One of the most prevalent uses of the word was when Jews, mostly from the north, used it in an attempt to somehow exonerate Leo Frank, who had been convicted of murdering a 13-year-old girl named Mary Phagan. (They're STILL trying to exonerate him and pin it on a black laborer in the factory where Frank was supervisor and who testified that Frank killed the girl.)

Racism came along later, in 1936, in response to policies put in place in Germany. They were called "racial" but they really weren't about race because the "races" they were aimed at were white. Actually, "race" has become a term for tribes, which are basically family groups. Black activists picked up on the term in the 50s and 60s. Leftists love such terms, although they may be starting to backfire.

White House Christmas stuff is good some years, not so good other years. But what is important is God coming to earth in the person of Jesus Christ. As Scripture says, "Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord." (Luke 2:11)

Sadly, certain people have turned it into just another holiday with only passing mention of it being to celebrate Christ's birth. (Incidentally, many Christians refused to celebrate it in the nineteenth century. They saw it as an excuse to get drunk and make merry.)

This isn't racial, though the dance troupe in question was decidedly racial. The Glee Club has taken command. All of life is high school, think Taylor Swift as our current Prom Queen.

The Democrats and "Woke" have inverted the high school power dynamic.

The Glee Club, Band and high school musical crowd are now the favored students. The Jocks are being told to stand down and take the back seat. The disaffected, the odd, the queer, the marginalized kids always mistreated have been handed power.

The Right has a tremendous sense of unease as Gays and Queers fill our military, more traditionally comfortable with the tough Jock standing forefront to defend our nation, much more uncomfortable seeing the kids who put on "Rent" last year holding the bayonet.

LGBTQ+ is all the Glee Club, Band, and High School play crowd long abused and elbowed in the halls by the strong and popular, taking control and being given voice.

They have grievances. A laundry list. Too long the football jocks have gotten the glory, the spotlight, the accolades, while they got ridiculed, harassed, belittled.

It's a new era, where the marginalized have taken the stage, are seizing the glory, are having their day. With the complete support of Hollywood, Academia, the mainstream media, government they now reign supreme.

Jill Biden was smart enough to combine the two biggest marginalized in the US, Blacks and the Glee Club Crowd, intersectionally, to stir up the Right.

It is not our natural order to see the strong, muscled, toxic males who normally stand the front line posts in war relegated to the rear, while the Glee Club crowd takes charge. It goes against our grain, our understanding of warrior culture.

The Left is exploiting this dynamic at every turn.

The Left loves that it sticks in everyone's crawl that they have to address a man in a wig as Ms. It galls the Far Right. To be told to be more comfortable with the Glee Club standing post against our enemies, and not the Defensive Line from the football team.

We know human nature on the Right, we know they've inverted the "truth", but the marginalized will be made fun of no longer, the "Rent" crowd has the microphone, the government, the military, the deep state, the media, Academia and Hollywood pushing them all to the front.

The Jocks are decidedly upset.

“The Democrats know their base right now falls into two groups - rich, white liberals and black voters.”

Blacks in Chicago are quite disgusted with democrats and it’s most likely the same in all our major cities which are also experiencing ever worsening social breakdown, crime and an ever worsening “migrant crisis” which the democrats blame on Texas bussing migrants here instead of on our open southern border which is the obvious cause of this ever worsening disaster. Just imagine what this will look like next August when the democrats have their National Convention here. Not such a good idea. Check out the 3 min video from Fox News in the Yahoo News article where a black woman at a City Hall meeting is telling the mayor what she thinks of him and his “migrants” who he believes are “brown” people who will be natural allies of the blacks who will fight white devil oppression which is also what rich, white liberals believe. How truly insanely absurd.

Matt this is reminding me of the last throes of a dying Roman Empire.

Recruits were down and the Latin Romans (“Latin” not in the sense of the modern understanding) fled to the hills. The armies needed to be replenished with Caesar buying the allegiance of what Romans would consider of lesser stature among mercenaries from the outlying regions of the empire, such as Spain, Gaul, Germania, Cyprus, Syria etc. They were generally individuals who were more interested in welfare FROM Rome than for fighting FOR Rome.

It didn’t take long for Rome to collapse from within and the outlying hordes overran them bringing the Pax Romana to an end.

Let’s hope this is not the current state of the United States of America.

Plus they can also vote in NYC 30 days after receiving a work permit and I think there are other areas of the country also doing this. The democrats are doing everything they can to destroy the distinction between citizen and noncitizen. No society can survive this level of stupidity and flat out insanity.
