Have Yourself an "Antiracist" Christmas

And other short takes on the news

A famous saying goes something like this, “if you don’t like what people are saying, change the conversation.” That appears to be what the Biden administration, via the First Lady Jill Biden, has done with their White House Christmas moment.

First, how it started 11 days ago:

But Jill Biden got almost no headlines for this. It certainly didn’t “go viral.” They were kind of like last year’s ballet video, pretty and nice but again, wasn’t going to blow anyone’s skirt up.

Then came their 2023 update:

At first, it seems like a fun video. It’s colorful, they’re happy and dancing - it feels modern and inventive. And then the music becomes somewhat discordant. The expressions become exaggerated, and a female Nutcracker seems to wink to the camera, and then there’s a … furry? An air-guitar furry?

Like, what is THAT?

The Nutcracker is traditionally male:

Is this meant to be the Nutcracker as a female? Or….what.

Or maybe he’s the Nutcracker:

Here, we have something that will generate controversy and “go viral,” which was the whole point.

The dance troop, Dorrance Dance, is dedicated to “antiracism” and uses tap dancing to teach about race and racism. It’s hard to complain about something so well-intentioned that can use tap dancing as a way out of poverty and misery.

But it’s also what the upper-class white liberal utopians demand — Absolution for their sins by signing a check. The site says:

Tap dance was born on the slave plantation in horrific circumstances. To learn the heritage of tap dance is to learn the history of racial inequality in America – and how that inequality was transcended. To learn the legacy of tap dance is to also learn of the responsibility to pass down that legacy, an oral tradition, and a black form. 

The Democrats know their base right now falls into two groups - rich, white liberals and black voters. This video is, therefore, all upside for them, appealing to both groups - all while hoping the Right will throw a collective fit to make the whole thing “go viral.” And so it has.

Why make Christmas so political all of a sudden, especially when the whole point of the holiday is to bring us together?

The first and most obvious reason was to change the conversation away from Biden’s catastrophic poll numbers and his stance on Israel.

Donald Trump has opened up a 3.2 polling advantage over Joe Biden in the Real Clear Politics average.

If that number sounds familiar, that’s because Hillary Clinton held that same advantage heading into the 2016 election:

This, of course, will bring up the “Are both sides the same” question. If Biden doesn’t step down, he could win the same slim Electoral College victory that Trump did in 2016 with their ballot harvesting scheme and dark money.

Trump would not concede as Hillary did and seek to abolish the Electoral College. The Democrats would be forced to do an about-face and suddenly defend it. Oh, what a mess that would be.

Trump could also win both the Electoral College and the popular vote, handing him a decisive victory for his second term. We have to wonder, though, just how bad it will get. Says Tucker:

The second reason is far more sinister. They seek to draw a loud distinction between them, the “antiracists,” and those people over there, the racists.

It was October 26, just before the 2022 midterms, Joe Biden invited Dylan Mulvaney to the White House. The clip went viral and gave the Democrats their much-needed advantage with Gen-Z. “We’re not the transphobes, they are.”

The Right played right into their hands and made a big public show of how offended they were. The Biden’s, I figure, are hoping for the same reaction with their Christmas video.

Turnabout is Fair Play

No First Lady has been mocked or verbally abused more than Melania Trump, who was never featured on a single magazine cover and whose Christmas decorations were treated far more harshly than Jill Biden’s video will ever be. This made people feel justified in going after this First Lady. Why shouldn’t they, after what happened with Melania?

They never left her alone. It just went on and on and on. To the Left, mocking the Trumps became a national pastime. So cry me a river, people.

The difference here is that Melania’s feelings were hurt. They weren’t criticizing a dance troop. They were — yet again — criticizing her. In this case, Jill and Joe Biden will use the opportunity of mockery to rally the base. The louder it gets, the better for them.
