One can have sympathy on a human level for Massie’s wife dying too young, but it’s not a free pass to go rogue on your constituents’ interests in favor of being liked by the online crowd. He has gone toe to toe with Trump before and still won his district handily. Millions of dollars don’t change that many people’s minds, but not voting how your voters want you to will.

The cult comments are so weird. It implies non- thinking loyalty, but you can come to a reasoned sense of loyalty and that is very much a free choice.

In my mind Trump is doing the hard short term thing for a long term gain. The immediate consequences hurt and it sucks, but it is the kind of thing that most politicians won’t do and we all suffer for it later. Looking back in 20 years it will be very easy to praise Trump for what he did if Iran is completely neutralized for a generation or two, but in the meantime… yeah, gas prices.

" Trump is doing the hard short term thing for a long term gain. " - Exactly! That's how he has always played this game. This is the reason behind the Abraham Accords, which has been the strongest force for peace in the Middle East since Egypt normalized relations with Israel almost 50 years ago.

I knew when Trump won in 2024 the danger was that people would expect everything to be fixed within a year, and start agitating if problems didn’t immediately go away. The progressive left has been working for decades to create this mess, and it’s going to take both time and some hard medicine to get things back on track.

I did not foresee the turn to rabid anti-semitism in some quarters that were formerly conservative. The left uses Anti-Zion as their cover, the right uses America First. I never dreamed so many people would buy the slop they sell as some kind of great insight into how the world really works.

Samhain's avatar

Thanks for the insightful comment. I think that the antisemitism on the Right is more concentrated to a few "influencer" types and the far-right nutters that were always there; we're not talking the average Republican voter, which is why Massie got his butt handed to him. Yeah, they're out there on the Right, but it's an epidemic on the Left.

Also, you make a good point about taking time to fix things; I often find myself wondering why people think putting things back together is going to happen painlessly and overnight.

Dunboy2020's avatar

And if Iran (and proxies) is brought to heel, we will finally have real peace in the Middle East. At least until the Dems take back control and screw things up with their hatred of Israel.

Jeff Keener's avatar

The U.S. (& our CPs) won every war on the battlefield that we've engaged since the Korean War, but it has always been the politicians that yank that victory out from under our feet, frequently leading to long, protracted conflicts as the politicians dither, concluding with fatigued political de-funding of the mission and handing victory to the enemy.

TomD's avatar

The only problem with your statement is that we're living in a tik Tok world and attention spans are about 45 seconds so most don't care about the long term. And at 80 I honestly feel the same because soon I'll have to make some very hard financial choices. Not to mention I doubt anything Trump does in the mid East will guarantee long term peace.

Jeff Keener's avatar

Trump, alone, can't guarantee long term peace. He can only enable the conditions to forge a peace. Long term peace takes work. It takes the work of the next president, and the following president, and so on. If we can't commit to it, then we have to commit ourselves to the alternative, which is a nuclear-armed Revolutionary Islamic Republic of Iran.

TomD's avatar

And while Trump continues to not care about the American people, just preventing Iran from getting a nuclear weapon. Or did you forget he said that recently? No support for his lunacy. And that soon to be nationwide $5 or 6 gas will doom MAGA candidates in November since too many will be destroyed financially as prices climb out of reach for the basics. But I guess if you're one of the 1%, you're safe

The cancer that metastasized over the four years of The Biden Harris Fiasco isn't and won't be easily undone as was their plan. Any cancer patient can tell you that the treatments are terrible, but ultimately the cure is worth the effort.

Compared to the coming battles over entitlement programs, the Iran problem will look like a schoolyard fight. We ain’t seen nothing yet.

The idea that it’s a cult if you object to Jew hatred, rather than a cult when you subscribe to Jew hatred, is bizarre. I think you made the right pick for the right reasons, and I despair that segments of the Right have fallen for insane nonsense and aligned with the woke Left. I wonder how sincere they ever were in opposing wokeness, backing Trump, and being MAGA, given how easily and rapidly they have gone the other way. I include Massie, MTG, Tucker in that and consider them all frauds. Massie’s result suggests that the majority of MAGA is smart and decent on this.

As for gas prices, the US obsession with those seems incredible to a UK observer. Ours are far higher. Yes, people struggle with it, but judging the whole economy by that doesn’t make sense and Trump has lowered inflation and delivered energy independence which has shielded the US from the Iran impact better than most places. Once Iran is resolved it will stabilise. Long term he’s putting the US economy in a much stronger position.

Thank you for your comments on gas. Same feeling I have here in globalist woke carbon tax loving Canada.(puke)

pjb535i's avatar

You sir, bring much needed perspective. Gas prices in the U.S. are still a bargain vs. what they’ve been in the UK, Ireland and Europe FOR DECADES.

Gas prices are up in the state of Kentucky too, but that didn’t stop Thomas Massie’s constituents from giving him the heave-ho on Tuesday.

I actually believe Trump is invigorating MAGA here in the U.S. from coast to coast. By his endorsements, MAGA has been energized to come out and vote in Indiana, Louisiana, and now Kentucky. Only 2.5% of the residents of Kentucky voted in Tuesday’s primary and MAGA prevailed because Thomas Massie’s Podcanistanian virtual-constituents CAN’T VOTE in a KY primary election.

Now let’s watch and see what happens in Texas with the Paxton/Cornyn runoff election next month. If I’m correct, Trump’s leadership (i.e., his endorsement of Paxton) has energized the MAGA base in TX (as well as everywhere in the U.S.). Already, Paxton is polling +12% over Cornyn. The gaslighting of the MSM, social media, and Podcasters has limited power, very limited as it turns out based on recent primary election results.

Patriot Americans are much smarter than the Left gives us credit for. But more importantly, we have HAD IT with the UniParty (i.e., Democrats + RINO Republicans). We recognize that this is our chance to destroy their political power. Trump is our gray champion. His political timing is phenomenal. Thomas Massie’s political demise is just the latest example of the fact that Trump knows how to win.

We are in uncharted waters. It’s no longer Democrat vs. Republican. It’s Trump vs. Democrats + Republicans. This is a counter-revolution to dismantle what the Alinskyite/Obama-Globalist Left has built over the past 60 years. Trump is 100% aware of this and knows the stakes. He’s down for the “Fight! Fight! Fight!” and just like it was on July 13, 2024 in Butler, PA, MAGA is right there with him. He’s our George Washington 2.0 (sorry about the reference to 1776 😉).

Btw, i just followed your Substack.

Actually the prove of fuel has a great impact on inflation as everything is delivered by truck. But I get your point.

Jupplandia's avatar

And inflation is still reduced from the Biden high. The gas impact is temporary. I’m not saying it has no effect, I’m saying it’s nowhere near as important as people claim.

Carol Jones's avatar

Exactly!!! its all relative as the poster from the UK says

Carol Jones's avatar

Uh ya it does— point is the US has better gas prices than really anywhere else. Stop whining.

Unwoke in Idaho's avatar

I wasn’t whining. I was pointing out a fact.

And BTW, saying it has better prices than anywhere else is meaningless to the person who doesn’t live anywhere else.

MikeS's avatar

Thanks for writing on the road and I think you are spot on with Massie. I can't fully understand Tucker, I was a big fan, and like him I am anti war, but sometimes We (USA) has to step up and do difficult things. I think much of Massie's problem was the growing ego you wrote about - it infects many politicians and even normal people, which is why we need term limits.

Centrist's avatar

Tucker (and I was a follower) has always been shrill. Now he is akin to a carnival barker. He had me fooled.

I'm even more surprised with the transformation of Megyn Kelly. Very disappointing.

Likewise here. I saw some of her interview with the RCP guys yesterday. It's baffling, but I guess she's not sweating the money side of things.

Go on over to the dark side. It pays well apparently

the anti-Israel crowd on the right are fools. their hate is blinding them and opportunists like Tucker are the pied piper. 2027 is going to be a bad time for all of us on the right, but it will be very bad for them as angry left goes on a purge. Call it the Blue Terror.

Dunboy2020's avatar

I don't understand the woke reich. They are splitting the party and opening the door to a Democrat/Leftist/Socialist hegemony. The Dems aren't even shy about it. Assuming they sweep the midterms, which looks increasingly likely, and in 2008 usher in Gavin Newsome, they will:

Kill the filibuster

Add DC and Puerto Rico as states

Pack the Supreme Court

Add a wealth tax

Indict Trump for some reason or other they make up

Put Iran back on track to obtain a nuke

And all round fix voting so Republicans can never win again.

I guess subscriber numbers are more important to them than the country.

Carol Jones's avatar

It's all about $$$$ honey. That is represented by clicks and likes. Sad but true for the woke Reich. They never were fully on board. There were there for the ride it would personally give them.

Scipio1776's avatar

I used to tell people that Trump is the most honest man in Washington. It’s not a high bar, but he stays above it. Everyone else is a liar. The Jew hate is anti-American. I only wish the Jews would stop backing the Democrats. You can see Republicans assuming the responsibility of purging antisemitism from the party while Democrats embrace it. If you reward Democrats for this, then I don’t know what to say.

Chris Amenson's avatar

You say after the midterms "Trumps impeachment and removal from office". You think 60 Senators are going to vote for Trump's removal?

Unwoke in Idaho's avatar

Impeachment will happen if the dems get in charge. He won’t be removed because it’s actually 67 votes are needed for removal. But regardless, it will be a circus and chaotic and that’s what the islamocommie democrats will deliver.

Confucius cypress's avatar

Won't happen. Absolutely won't.

Carol Jones's avatar

I mean what did the last week or so of primaries teach you?

Sapient Observer's avatar

It's actually 67 Senators - 60 is to break a filibuster.

Richard's avatar

Anti-Semites lose Republican primaries but win Democrat primaries. Always remember that when you are worrying about the tiny, very on-line examples on the Right.

Jeff Keener's avatar

Love you, Sasha! Don't let the bastards drag you down.

Confucius cypress's avatar

I can't subscribe to the labeling of Tucker - kelly or Candace Owen's or the other Hitler youth as MAGA, I can't. Kelly and Tucker were anti trump before they got on the grifter train. Grifters for clicks aren't who MAGA is and therefore your entire premise of being in another cult is wrong and I've pointed that out before on X.

MAGA is a bunch of free thinkers , we dont watch FOX or listen to podcasts of Tucker or Kelly or really mostly anyone else. We make up our own minds on each and every issue and sometimes disagree on those. But we - to a person - can't stand stand political theater from people who vote a certain way because they dont LIKE trump. Thats not America first, that's ME first and tom massie was me first. Cassidy - ME first.

He lost his wife. That happens but what I hear is his wife made him a man and without her he can't be a man. Thats some weak ass shit. I may lose my wife but she doesn't define me and if massie was only defined by his wife then he should have resigned rather than let TDS define him . He got voted out because too many people thought exactly as I do.

Let's go! Youre not in a cult. Youre in a club. A club of people who love America and any person of any color or religion that loves America. Gas will be down by August- Sept and besides we shouldn't be voting on gas anyways.....we are re aligning political power in the western hemisphere and thats more important than an extra 2 bucks a gallon.

Meh. People love to whine, people love to bitch. People love to blame their problems on someone else because then they don’t have to take responsibility for their awful stupid choices. Many people can’t stand they aren’t the center of their own universe and that a politician isn’t just like them. They want clones. If they want someone to parrot every thought they have, they should effing run themselves or write their own essays.

If a person can’t recognize that others have different opinions, they should withdraw from the world. Or at the least stop embarrassing themselves with their ridiculous infantile whining about how if you don’t agree with me, you’re in a cult. Wah wah wah.

As I said, meh.

Inflation adjusted, a gallon of gas that cost 50 cents in 1966 should be $4.82 today.

Americans think they are entitled to cheap energy.
