Why didn’t he resign from the presidency?

If he’s not fit to run, why is he still President?

Doesn’t all of this raise the question that they don’t think that Kamala Harris is ready to be President? And if she’s not ready, why should anyone vote for her?

This will generate short-term excitement and cash inflows, but it won’t change the fundamentals, which are that Democrat’s policies have made the lives of most people worse these past four years. As long as Donald Trump can keep focusing on that, and as long as the RNC’s operation isn’t totally outplayed by the DNC’s operation, the presidency is there for the taking.

Expand full comment
Scott's avatar

The fundamentals are that Democrats now have an identity trifecta - black, woman, Democrat. That makes them prohibitive favorites running against a historically unpopular Republican nominee. Every word on every tv and social media outlet from now on will be about how amazing it is that we get to vote for the first Black.Woman.Democrat as President. It will be considered a historic opportunity. She will win easily.

No offense meant, but Kamala is a joke and cannot possibly win on her own bona fides. If they get rid of her (as I suspect they will as they know she can’t win), then maybe they can come up with a viable candidate. But that amount of manipulation is going to be tough!

Juju's avatar

Honestly I don’t think this has the impact it used to. People would love to see this yes, but we aren’t morons. We want the competency and character along with that package as well or why the hell have it? I don’t like seeing such a goal given to a poorly qualified candidate.

Bring me a strong, smart, black woman who shares my values, honors family, is smart as a whip and savvy in negotiations, has gained immense wisdom, has high character and decency, slow to speak and quick to listen, and I’ll trip over myself running into her arena to cheer her on. But Kamala? No. We aren’t there yet. Or maybe we already have a truly qualified black woman out there somewhere but she is constantly being overlooked and politically hogtied, and we are shooting ourselves in the foot because of it.

The goal should not be to have the first as fast as we can. It should be to make sure that the first is awe inspiring to both sides.

Expand full comment
JT's avatar

Sorry, but why does she have to be black…or even why does she have to be a she? Why can’t our presidential candidate simply be the best person willing to take the job, regardless of race, sex or preferred pronouns?

Expand full comment
Juju's avatar

Well I agree and that’s what I was basically saying. I was just speaking to those who keep saying how appealing a “first female president who is also black” is. I was saying it may not make the impact they think it will anymore because we all are starting to want someone based on merit, not the DEI boxes they check. But if they are looking to check those boxes they need to see that Kamala doesn’t check the most important boxes of all: merit, character, skills, etc. She’s just not the best person for the job. That was the purpose of my post.

So then the Dems make a mistake being afraid to choose “a white man” over her at this point. We are all getting sick of this nonsense. No it doesn’t have to be a white man but if the best person for the job just so happens to be a white man then it shouldn’t stop them.

Expand full comment
Ben Dandebairen's avatar

exactly. If everything the blue team have been saying about Trump being an existential threat to democracy was sincere, and the polls showed Newsom or Whitmer or even Michelle Obama was the only chance to beat him, yet they don't run, perhaps all those insults they were saying about Trump were similarly untrue/insincere/dishonest as ef? Kamala may be anointed for checking off the most boxes, but she will lose because we in the Bay Area know she's an insincere self-serving political shell.

In 2020, many states did mail in voting for the very first time and proactively sent ballots to everyone on rolls (which means the dead voted more than usual).
