Gretchen Whitmer’s video really encapsulates the difference between old-school liberalism and today’s progressivism:

Whitmer, 2024: “There is nothing more American than living your life the way YOU want to live it.”

JFK, 1961: “Ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country.”

It’s not a mystery why we are in such a mess.

Jeff Hoyt's avatar

If Whitmer really believed what she said she would oppose all the freedom crushing big government initiatives. But she supports them. There is no introspection on the left.

"And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory. And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.

For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies. And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities. And strong is the Lord God who judges her." [Revelation 18-]

Always remember that July is Gun Pride month where we celebrate the tools by which we won our independence and conserve our individual liberty.

Easier to just buy one. I think I also read something about guns like this being labeled “ghost guns” and banning them.

D Parker's avatar

A stripped lower receiver is just the frame, but it does have the serial number, so technically according to ‘F troop’ it’s a ‘gun’.

Building one from the receiver on up is a great way to become familiar with the tool and how it works.

It’s almost as if they know they are going to win the election so they have no problem continuing to do things that most of the country doesn’t agree with (going from acceptance/live and let live to anything less than celebration is an act of “violence”)

That’s my theory. He has made no effort to be everyone’s president. We will head into election with Trump 5 or more points ahead in the polls, even in states like New Jersey. Everyone assumes Trump will will. It feels like a landslide. GOP takes the House and Senate. Then the surplus ballots show up over the following weeks. It’ll be like 2020, only much more obvious, sinister, and obnoxious. Biden will make it clear the fix was in, and if we don’t like it, would we care to engage his FBI and military?

“They’ve pushed all of us too far. And now, they’ll have to suffer the consequences.”

More like we’ll all have to suffer the consequences of their fanaticism. They are totally obsessed with destroying Trump/MAGA internally, Putin/Russia externally. They are fanatics and incapable of self-reflection and change. They cannot win but they can destroy which is what they’re doing and they will blame us for their failures. Even the mayor of Chicago, Brandon Johnson, blames “right-wing Trump supporters” for sabotaging his policies. How? By not supporting them. He actually says this. And this is how all these Woke fanatics reason. An impossible situation.

Robert Lime's avatar

I agree, of course, and got to push back a little on Facebook yesterday. It's always a wonderful Easter Sunday, isn't it? because of the reason we celebrate, but yesterday afforded me the privilege of declaring Biden an intellectual and moral idiot in response to the posts of a couple of Facebook friends.

I don't have TV, so I don't know if the 60 Minutes videos which were offered to me on YouTube last evening were from last evening's show, but they were about Havana Syndrome. I have never for a moment believed that the government employees who have claimed their lives have been ruined by whatever Havana Syndrome is were psychosomatic cases. That is what the federal government slimed chronic fatigue syndrome sufferers with being for twenty years despite MRI and neuropsychological evidence from the first couple of years of the CFS epidemic in the 1980s that CFS patients had an unusual pattern of brain dysfunction which could be correlated with neuropsychological test results.

Whatever Havana Syndrome is, it's real, and its most likely source is some kind of Russian weapon. I'm all for our avoiding the Russia/Ukraine horror, but whatever the Russians are doing, it's not to benefit us. It would be to Trump's great advantage if he were to make as formal a speech about this as he's ever capable of making. The matter is only going to worsen. Trump and the Republican party need to speak up about this for obvious reasons.

Senator Bob Casey, "support all those who are living as their authentic selves". Uhm.. that's what I'm doing ? 🙋🏼‍♀️ Woman, married to a Man for 43 yrs, Mom to 4 Gaga to 3... where's my flag?

Sandra Pinches's avatar

It's completely Orwellian. A person rejects his/her entire bodily identity for the purpose of living out an authentic self. "Supporting" children equates to mutilation of their bodies, sterilization and permanent dependence on medical care for a non-existent condition.

Casey is my senator. He has to be voted out of office, but I don’t even know if anyone is running against him. I write to him regularly on a number of topics; he always answers but he’s on the wrong side of every issue, from war to vaccines and now this.

Democrats are certainly the worst right now, but I don't think our answers are found in the Republicans either. I think we should vote every single incumbent out unless the other choice is a loony.

I can go along with that, I just don't want Democrats in control. Believe me, I think Republicans in Congress are HUGE pussies with zero backbones.

I recently saw video of Glenn Greenwald talking about the disappearance of butch lesbians. Kim Iversen also interviewed a lesbian about this. Such a mess these people have made of all areas of our society.

And whatever happened to tomboys, girls who like doing boy things but grew up to be lesbians or straight women who still like doing male things which isn’t at all unusual? Our schools and culture have convinced them at an early age that they’re actually boys/males in a female body so they just need to transition so their body is correctly aligned with their brain. But isn’t this like Iran where homosexuality is totally unacceptable but trans people are okay and left alone?

Grew up as a Southern Baptist, mostly pushed by my mother. Not particularly religious these days. But this latest from the Biden admin is just over the top. Your captures from elsewhere just amplify how this Biden regime is so opposite of much of America, the world even. The world is watching this madness as well.

From another substack author:

“The world is watching this madness as well.”

They sure are and Russia and China are using this to bring many to their BRICS side. All things are now global in our always online global civilization. Our reality war of the Woke vs the nonWoke is very much a global war.

RSgva's avatar

Yes— but China and Russia are probably also paying for a lot of this madness to happen – – after all it’s often called a TikTok induced social contagion.

Seva's avatar

I don’t believe they are. They don’t need to since we have plenty of our own home grown fanatics doing it. A few years ago Putin gave a talk about this insanity in America and the West and basically said “Been there. Done that. No thanks.” Both Putin and Xi understand quite well that our society has become insane since both men saw the same thing happen to their country’s in the not so distant past.

Matt L.'s avatar

Huh? That sounds strange. Russians and Chinese are not the ones creating Alphabet positive content. Perhaps you have some evidence LGBTQ groups in USA are getting funded by Russia/China though? I’ve not seen that but thanks for sharing if you do.

Goliath is behind this madness and the more you pay attention the more Goliath wins. It is a distraction from the real Global Gobbling - world dominance - currency, media, politics, power. Culture wars are just one arrow in Goliath’s quiver. Ignore the gender gambit and it goes away.

Sam McGowan's avatar

Sasha, that is a good article but where do you get that "Christians were on the right of history during slavery"? In reality, there were Christians on both sides. Yes, Henry Ward Beecher ranted about slavery - when he wasn't screwing around with Elizabeth Tilton, and he sent rifles to Kansas in crates marked "Bibles" but there were many who favored or tolerated slavery. After all, the Southern Baptist Convention came about as a split with Northern Baptists and Methodists split over slavery while many of the leading Confederates were Episcopalians. Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson was a devout Presbyterian who was often seen with his head bowed in prayer. When making a comment about "Christians" it's best to ask "which ones?" Yes, Biden and the Democrats intent is to draw out Christians but it mainly shows that he's a senile old idiot and this is going to backfire bigtime. Just like my lifelong Democrat aunt finally got tired and voted for Trump, thousands of Democrats who are Christians are going to become former Democrats and vote for Trump in 2024.

Tom Potts's avatar

Christians stopped slavery with the Word of God. William Wilberforce started the slave absolution movement in England and exported it to the USA.

Sam McGowan's avatar

Actually, some people in America were opposed to slavery all along, particularly Baptists in Rhode Island and elsewhere. Be careful about trying to use the Word of God to make points because it can be used for other points too. Remember that slavery was common throughout history and there's nothing in the Bible to condemn it. The New England Congregationalists and Presbyterians convinced themselves they had a higher power than the rule of law and scripture. It's not surprising since their ancestors went on a witch hunt.

Kelly Alvin Madden's avatar

"... and there's nothing in the Bible to condemn it. [slavery]"

I strongly disagree.

I cannot read Paul's letter to Philemon as anything other than a cunning subterfuge of the entire institution.

(It's also the funniest book in the Bible. It literally makes me laugh out loud sometimes: It's such a grandfatherly arm-twisting. Please look at it (again), if just for the humor: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philemon%201&version=NIV)

On the other hand, you are correct that it lasted two millennia too long. It's shameful. There are screeds against it by early church scholars, such as Gregory of Nyssa. https://earlychurchtexts.com/public/gregoryofnyss_ecclesiastes_slavery.htm But how can it have taken so long?!

But—back to the first hand—the wonder is not that slavery existed, but that we abolished it, for the love of Christ.

Sam McGowan's avatar

Reading something as a "cunning subterfuge" is private interpretation, which Peter warned against. I almost ROFLMAO with your comment about slavery being abolished for the love of Christ. Where did Christ tell the disciples to go out and abolish slavery? The slavery He and the apostles talked about was slavery to sin and the law. There is not a single Bible verse admonishing Christians to abolish slavery. Someone, I believe it was Julia Ward Howe, was abhorred by the conduct of her fellow abolitionists. Kansas is a good example of the Christian charity of the abolitionists. John Brown was a zealot and nutty as a fruitcake. Many of the abolitionists were bloodthirsty radicals who wanted to kill every slave owner. Old Tad Stevens told Richard Taylor, the son of President Zachary Taylor, after the war and the assumption of the presidency by Andrew Johnson that he wanted to kill all the slave owners and turn their property over to the slaves but lamented that they couldn't do it with Johnson in the White House. (One author described Stevens, who was raised as a Baptist, as wanting to see the white man in the South, particularly the white women, under the black man.) By the way, the Puritans were slave owners and were heavily involved in the shipping industry. They only abolished slavery because it was no longer profitable for them. FYI, I don't use the NIV. It's a transliteration, not a translation. Sadly, it's taken over in the churches. FYI, Paul is not writing as a slave, he's writing as a prisoner, which he was at the time.

Kelly Alvin Madden's avatar

Read Philemon, and engage with it. Or don’t.

But if you don’t, then leave me alone.

Tom Potts's avatar

And slavery is higher right now on April 1st, 2024 than ever before in history. Often by government. In the west, thru human trafficking for sex slaves and work slaves. How many of the 10 to 15 illegal aliens are slaves? Millions? Go to any big city overrun with illegals and you will find child prostitution, both male and female. This is what the progressives want. This is what the fake “elites” want. More easy choices.

Sandra Pinches's avatar

German colonists and later immigrants were also more likely to be opposed to slavery than were colonists from the British Isles.

Boogie's avatar

I think it's what Trump said: there are good people on both sides. The problem is, if you're on the wrong side, even if your good, you must meet a criminals fate because the time is late, the mission critical and the stakes high.

I Timothy 4:3 - 4 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.

Richard's avatar

I had to look up Elizabeth Tilton. Thanks for that bit of history. Apparently, that sort of Christian didn't much believe in marital fidelity either.

Sandra Pinches's avatar

I had the same reaction to Ms. Stone's statement. Most if not all slaveowners were at least publicly practicing Christians, and most of those probably regarded themselves as privately practicing Christians as well.

Richard's avatar

I think the answer is that not all Christians were abolitionists but all abolitionists were Christians. Of course, so was everyone else at that point in time.

Sandra Pinches's avatar

The Society of Friends started out in the British American Colonies as slaveowners, but then gradually made a decision to end slave ownership within their religious communities. I think this happened in 1774, but the debate started in the mid 1700's. Some of the German Anabaptist communities argued against slavery on religious grounds. The German Seventh Day Baptists were anti-violence in general and opted out of the Revolutionary War.

Some abolitionists argued against slavery on general moral grounds, but most also used religious justifications for their arguments. I think that one of the problems with the 19th century debate was that the Southerners also used Biblical arguments in favor of slavery.

Sam McGowan's avatar

That's not true either. Some were Communists, many, including Horace Greely, were socialists and many were spiritualists. The abolitionists we think about most were descendants of the New England Puritans whose idea of Christianity was repressive, if not heretical. They professed with the mouth but their actions were from the flesh.
