Sasha, just fyi "podcasts" by "influencers" (as far as I can tell, a synonym for "ignoramuses") are not central to some of us. Many of us, maybe. I am barely acquainted with most of the names and have never wasted a minute listening to any of them.

Not saying they are not "important" if by "important" is meant "having some influence on a small fraction of the population", just that they may not be as important as some might think.

Kick Nixon's avatar

Thank you for pointing out that this only affects a sliver of the chronically online. These "feuds" feel manufactured with a high level of middle school mean girl energy meant only to entangle reactive and vulnerable people. It is high level emotional manipulation for clicks and nothing else. Please Sasha, walk away from this; you are diminishing yourself by engaging with these people.

Bill Bradford's avatar

....NOT for "clicks and nothing else".... You are in fact over-simplifying to the point of error by thinking that....because $$$$ and POWER, and CONTROL are much more of it....

Brian M's avatar

Podcasters who validate Candace Owens, or who lie to achieve financial success (Sell Out) or who otherwise act immorally out of vanity or greed, are not on the Right. They are banned from representing anything to do with the right and should be banned from all national conventions and gatherings, as Candace Owens was in 2024 at the RNC. If Rogan has joined that crowd, that is sad. That he would use his platform to broadcast lies is evil. I want nothing to do with liars that undermine American values. They have the freedom to speak, and have the freedom to detest them

John Rogitz's avatar

I saw Candace Owens on TV many years ago. Struck me then as an unoriginal motor mouth and haven't listened to her since. Apparently she was widely accepted, maybe even by you, until recently for some odd reason.

Bill Bradford's avatar

She told too much of the wrong truth, and threatened to expose too many too powerful people, so she was "wrap-up smeared" and suppressed.... Not saying she was "right", or "wrong", or whether her message was "true or false", I'm only clarifying how the media REALLY WORKS, which most people either just don't know, or else too often forget....

Bill Bradford's avatar

We all need to WAKE the F**K UP, and throw off the slave chains of false, imposed, "left/right" puppet strings....I don't even use those words, and haven't for years. There is literally NO SUCH THING as a "left-right political spectrum". If you think otherwise, you're brainwashed and delusional, and were made intentionally so....

Pacificus's avatar

Wrong, Bill. There is most definitely a "Left-RIght" axis, on economics, on culture, on gender, etc. Yes, we are manipulated by both sides of this divide, but that does not mean that it does not exist.

Sorry to burst your self-righteous bubble, but you are the "brainwashed and delusional" one here...

Brian M's avatar

You are right in a sense: there are many political axes and Left / Right does not describe which axis. But you must agree there is a world of difference between the Socialism / Capitalism axis. That is probably the most important for most of us, especially small businessmen like me. There is also the Authoritarian / Libertarian axis with most Democrats well towards authoritarian which is synonymous with "Big Government". On the social axis is Liberal (amoral) versus Conservative (moral). And on it goes. There are definitely differing ideologies among Americans

George Christian Ortloff's avatar

You're no doubt right, John. Virtually all the millions of people who drop their regular, important lives for an hour or two to go vote once a year are blessedly and thankfully oblivious to the existence of a "bubble" in which political junkies and click-baiters live and imagine they are important.

It's no insult to them. They are helping to shape things in that bubble. But the humbling fact that most actual political candidates and party leaders realized long ago is that most people aren't paying attention till it comes down to election time. Even then, they have lives that have to be lived: jobs to do, kids to get off to school and take to soccer games, laundry, shopping, cooking, going to church, taking care of family and friends in need, and on and on.

Sadly, even Sasha is not known by 90, 95, 99%? of the population. "We the people" includes all of them, those who don't "follow politics," those who are perfectly content with the fact that they have a vote, when it's the time and place to do so.

"If only high-profile podcasters had just once pushed back hard on Candace Owens, "

I don't think we SHOULD push back on Candace Owens. She destroyed her credibility by herself. In saying high-profile people should push back on her, it's implying the bulk of the people aren't smart enough to draw the necessary conclusions on their own. That's a misapprehension.

Same with Tucker Carlson. He's got minima influence with the public. Talking about him all the time only gives him more.

Brian M's avatar

Podcasters are only "high profile" to their followers. It is likely the same followers follow all the people broadcasting the same viewpoint. If it is 5 million, well that is 1.5% of the population, and not too significant. Only people with hours to burn (unemployed) have that kind of time. The permanently unemployed are not really "of the Right" anyway, as conservatives live with a purpose

Steenroid's avatar

You are correct the average person doesn’t have the time or money to listen to Candice or Tucker. I’m sure Candice is doing it for the $ and out of hate. Can’t figure out Tucker. He doesn’t need the money. I heard at the time Fox News fired him his buy out was $20 million

Bill Bradford's avatar

you forget, that to the "elites", most of the population are seen by them as "useless eaters", who would not be missed if they disappeared or died.... So that "1.5%" is in fact much much bigger, relatively speaking....

Brian M's avatar
41mEdited

I don't think podcasters or their followers are "Elite", so the segment in fact is much smaller, relatively speaking, by your logic. Elites are actually the oligarchs that the DSA crowd say they hate (business, academic, entertainment, any group that has a dominant few people running it). Unfortunately, most of those elites are Democrats. So they hate themselves. Appropriate.

Bernadette's avatar

The only problem is, I know a number of women who are ALL in on Candace's slop. A friend of mine who I've done life with, prayed with, raised our kids together... she actually believes Erika is a child-trafficker!! High profile podcasters could have at the very least come out against the defamation of a grieving widow. (Cough, cough, Megyn...)

Operator Dawn's avatar

Yes but Americans today do not inform themselves, which means everything.

Most only read what tickles their fancy. that's not informing its massaging

Alan Sewell's avatar

I hadn't heard that one. I knew she claimed French President Macron's wife is a man. Maybe you can be the one who helps your friend mature her judgment about whether to believe what she sees on social media.

Bill Bradford's avatar

OK, but think about if logically, and as a "thought exercise". WHAT IF, - I'm only saying "what if", I could prove beyond a doubt to you, that Erika actually IS somehow involved in child trafficking? Can you imagine that? How would things look different? There truly IS more evil in the world, than you WANT to know. Leaving Erika aside, have you ever watched "Mexican beheading videos" on the "Dark Web"? You'd deeply regret it if you did. Have you ever actually SEEN the kind of "child pornography" that SOME Law Enforcement must watch to catch & convict the perps?....My point here is to encourage you to have a wider, less emotional view of things, so you can be more effective in making things better....We are in a spiritual war, remember? Angels and Demons? That is NOT simply metaphor....

Operator Dawn's avatar

If Erika Kirk was a child trafficker then Charlie would still be alive, the scum of the world would have known the Kirk family were on their scummy team and thus protected them.

Hollydays's avatar

👍🏻👍🏻

Also, am sick of hearing about them [Candace Owens and Tucker Carlson]; it's just noise about noise-makers. What WAS good about Rogan was his ability to interview. Period. To whatever extent he now inserts him, he drops in esteem. (Two good interviewers: Peter Robinson, Lex Fridman)

Shannon Dennis's avatar

I agree with Alan on this subject. Cancel culture is abhorrent and so I don’t see any point in participating. She is cancelling herself with her weird ideas. Whatever she thinks about Israel or France or Egypt she can speculate on all she wants. It turned evil when she started going after a widow. And any moral person sees that. “Never interrupt your enemy when they are making a mistake.”

RicC's avatar

What is terrible about all of this is the lack of compass people have to not just shout, "STOP IT!", and tune out the insanity. I've stopped listening and consequently stopped responding. These people make their money by being absurd.

George Christian Ortloff's avatar

In fact, just by tuning out that which we perceive as insanity, we HAVE said "Stop it." One person's quiet but firm decision not to listen or let oneself be baited into responding HAS done its job. Good for you.

Dawn's avatar

I have to agree. I use to be an avid listener to many of those mentioned, but I’ve become very selective and have eliminated many that I once thought had something intelligent to offer.

Tucker hosted Hunter Biden (of Hunter Biden laptop fame, which was once Tucker’s favourite subject) on his show and they acted like two giddy school girls gleefully talking about how much they love Candace. A horseshoe theory on full display.

We had a fairly descriptive, if graphic, phrase for the type of activity perpetuated by the podcast influencers (damn those 2 words make me want to vomit):

Circle Jerk

They speak only to each other, flattering and validating, stroking and releasing.

Taylor Ferber's avatar

Spot on!! Every word. Btw, I’m friends with Robert and Jill Malone, who recommended your sub. This piece took the words right out of my mouth. Bravo 👏🏼 (I also debated Andrew on the Whatever pod—never in a MILLION years did I think I’d agree with him. Here we are, just goes to show how insane this all has become.)

Jeff Campbell's avatar

Prominent people on the right have stood up and pushed back on Candace. I don't disagree that not enough of them have. But this is certainly a different situation than what we see on the left. Don't despair, Sasha, for that is part of the plan: to make ordinary people believe there is nothing that anchors them in reality and thus fall into despair. I'm afraid that the "online world" and "social media" are, themselves, toxins that poison our thoughts and attitudes. We must be very cautious when engaging in those forums!

You are doing fantastic work. You are making a difference. Stay strong. Keep going.

Liz T's avatar

You're so right, Sasha. And I hope and pray there are far more of us who see through Owens' grift and quest for attention than those who think she's right. Poor Charlie and Erika - this is all so awful. Those of us who are not Jewish but stand with Israel are speaking up more and more, consequences be damned.

I think the pod-sphere of “influencers” like Candace Owens’s and Tucker Carlson is far less influential than those closest to it might think. Both these individuals at one time had something to add to the broader discussion of issues in this country. Both failed to advance in that domain and chose a dark corner of the web that succeeds by outrageous conspiracy-driven rumors and innuendo. When history is written they’ll not even be worth a footnote.

Pacificus's avatar

I disagree--both Tucker and Candace will merit footnotes as shit-stirrers deluxe... Exhibits A and B as to how quckly the promise of indepenent on-line journalist failed.

Steve Doyle's avatar

I’m famously wrong about many things, but I’m mostly open (eventually) to considering other arguments. Over the years, I watched what I considered ‘journals of record’ (Time, NYT, WaPo, National Geographic, NPR, Nature, Scientific American, Spiegel, Economist, BBC, etc.) abandon journalism in pursuit of greed, power and/or propaganda. Then I shuddered when conservative outlets went down the same road: WSJ, Fox, etc. I used to consume all of it regularly and considered it my civic duty to understand the issues in my world. Republics require a semblance of truth on important issues, as opposed to reporting on social media vendettas; seeing who looks good in a bikini; the latest example of heinous violence; etc.

Sadly, I know there is a ‘colosseum’ audience for that. It’s been that way for millennia. So pseudo-journalists have sold-out.

But here’s the good news: if you’re too close to it, it’s easy to make the mistake that that is our world. If I thought that way, I would want to bang my head against the wall as well. Your output resonates with so many people, because, for the most part, we don’t represent either media fringe that purports to mirror our world. We’re normal. We make the country run - not a small feat, by the way. We understand common sense and common decency. Your content reminds us that we exist. If any group tries to take our values and lifestyles away from us, an extremely annoyed giant will awaken. Keep the faith.

I’m with you, Sasha. All of this is disgusting to me too. I’ve detached myself from listening to all of these podcasters, and some I really liked and enjoyed listening to. Candace’s actions are sick and evil, and I don’t want anything to do with people who excuse, look the other way, or rationalize it. I don’t need any of this in my life, it’s so toxic. I won’t even watch the debate, it’s truly a waste of my time and life energy. I’m not advocating cancellation, but I’m an adult with agency and I can choose what I pay for and what I spend my time on.

Regarding splitting the Right. I won’t vote for any candidate who backs the Trans religion, or who won’t take a stand on it. No men in our sports or our private spaces. No messing with kids. Democrats aren’t changing on that at all, and if they’re back in full power, then it’s full speed ahead, along with an open border, lawfare and whatever else they think is okay. I’m not switching sides because the podcasters want Candace’s numbers on YouTube. That’s totally separate to me and they can live in their own online universe all they want, I’m not joining them.

Bill Bradford's avatar

"trans" is a fabricated political battlefield, and nothing else....

Pacificus's avatar

"Trans" a "fabricated political battlefield".. what are you talking about... ask the teen age girl who took a volleyball in the eye from a "trans woman" if this battle is "fabricated"..

But I guess in these sorts of diascussions it is common for there to be a "who's the most cynical?" contest ... Bill B is vying for that crown...

Sasha, Satan has complete control over this earthly kingdom that God gave to him. The separation of the righteous from the unrighteous will be what brings God‘s kingdom down to earth where he always intended it to be. The separation of the Republicans, is absolutely within his power to try to control. Of course he would separate us because that weakens us and he knows that. The Democrats or the left or leftists or whatever you choose to name them, they’re already in his control he doesn’t need to divide or separate them in any way. This is what is important to know in this moment, those that are not in Candace‘s court, or in the court of the people who never condemned what she did who are buying into what she is saying, those people have a choice now, they can choose to follow Satan or they can choose to follow Jesus. What they won’t do is make the right choice because it’s hard when you follow Jesus and you are righteous in this world because you will be persecuted. I just read an article by, I can’t think of his name but he writes about things that are going on in the Netherlands and but broader than that as well, and he said that there are currently 388 million Christians being persecuted in the world as we speak and that’s up from 380 million last year so it’s growing we can see Islam spreading it’s evil and it’s hate further and further. The fight is spiritual. We need to make a choice now. We we choose the narrow path which is to follow Jesus or we choose the broad path, which is being constructed and spread far and wide by Satan and his minions. I’m not talking about end times. I don’t know anything about that. What I am talking about is that God‘s kingdom is within us and we can choose it now. If we don’t choose it now who knows what tomorrow brings because every day is an opportunity for us to no longer be in this world, whether it be end times or just walking across the street and getting hit by a car. So all I can do is say pray, just pray endlessly, ceaselessly. Pray over everything. When we seek God‘s guidance, we will know what to do.

Interesting and sobering comment that calls out the devil's role in causing much of the miseries and calamities in this world, but not so new. Jews have faced such devil caused miseries for thousands of years. The only logical explanation for such loss of critical thinking is a devil spawned mind worm. The Jew hater doesn't see themselves as hating Jews. At Adolph Eichmann's Nuremberg trial, he testified he was not an antisemite and held no animus towards Jews. One of the originators of the Holocaust didn't see himself as an antisemite. The story of Job in the bible is a metaphor for the story of the Jew in this world and how the devil hates those who loved G-d. As the devil hated Job and caused him many calamities and miseries because Job continued to love G-d, so too the Jew throughout history has continued to love G-d despite all the miseries and calamities caused by devil spawned Jew hatred. The devil hates the Jew as he hated Job because both continue to love G-d despite the miseries it caused them. As G-d in the end restored Job and ended the miseries caused by the devil, so too Hashem will one day end our devil inspired miseries and calamities.

Sasha, I was right there with you when you gave subscribers instructions on how to unsubscribe if they couldn't stomach you reposting Tucker. Now I am right there with you on the dejection of seeing so many fellow travelers choose too different a path. I listened to Clarence Thomas describe learning of Thomas Sowell's views and describing it as a man finding a cool drink of water in a stifling desert. I felt that same way when I found commentators in an online store's comment section years ago and realized that there were other sane people out there looking for that "one truthful man" that old Diogenes sought. I then found my way to the other founts available and drank deeply of the idea that I was not alone. I have now found that some flows dry up (Jordan Peterson) and others become polluted (Tucker Carlson) and I am saddened and sometimes adrift. You have been one of the rare voices that seems to find sanity a comfortable fit, and yet are brave enough to ride the tide of new truths that get revealed. There are others like Sharyl Attkisson and Catherine Herridge that I believe and support, but they are just too timid; and maybe that is a good thing. However, I like someone who is willing to go all in and then course correct when the error of those ways is revealed. To thine own self be true, right?
