I will mourn the death of a great director who made some of the best movies in the late 80s/early 90s. Politics aside, Reiner was a great director. I mourn for his family and friends. RIP.

Yes, somehow Reiner found the humanity to direct great movies. His father Carl, was nothing like Rob, and was good all the way around, in business and in life, as far as I can tell. I don't know where Rob got his mean streak, but it is good to celebrate the good and not dwell on the negatives.

I agree its a mystery,,,all these talented people capable of such grace in art, yet really mean angry and violent,,,all justified by themselves and affirmed by the tribe..

I can only guess,,a loss of God. USA is Atheistic now...Look at all the public and school and so many places,,Universities. So the family unit is breaking.

In the North east last Christmas a son grown adult with a baby child killed his parents Christmas morning,,,then fled in a car to Pa...Sick,,,loss of civilization

That is just so sad, and this is something I'm keeping a close eye on as I get older - it appears that seniors (yes, I qualify and am allowed to say this) start to watch more and more TV news, which is just 110 proof rage fuel. I'm seeing it with older relatives, and it's like they've been invaded by a succubus.

I am disentangling from Twitter, and I gotta tell you, I feel better mentally. And thank God I have avoided TV news like the plague for going on 30 years.

As I become acutely aware that the mortality clock is ticking louder and louder, I do not want my last days wallowing in the muck.

I hear you. My spouse and I quit watching blue-state local news a couple decades ago and tapered off watching Fox News years before Tucker was fired (his firing made us turn off Fox News forever). We still watch a couple investment type shows on Fox Business that dabble into politics but we get off it when we can.

I think many people leave the news on all day as background noise, but if we want the TV left on, we usually have old series playing like Simpsons, Family Guy, Friends, Seinfeld, Sopranos, MTV Classic and similar.

We've found that stepping away from so much of this news is a necessity. Just don't need it when can read online that which is not meant to enrage.

I have watched so many of my older GenX and young Boomer friends and family get so wrapped up watching the news. I just can't stomach it anymore. It's all propaganda. I have cut down reading about politics online too. It's not worth stressing about things that are mostly out of my control.

Thank you for writing this, Sasha. I too, will NOT be celebrating his death. I may not have like him, his views, his opinions, or anything about the man... but No One deserves to be murdered like that. Or in any way.

Prayers for their friends, their family, and their community.

No one should celebrate the murder - or death - of anyone.

I doubt many on the right will do so, but I expect to see a lot of popup X accounts claiming to be "MAGA" and saying the most vile things. Such are the methods of the left.

Mr. Reiner was talented, but his hatred not just of Donald Trump and conservatism in general made him a sad and unattractive human being. Because hatred makes anyone ugly on the inside - and often on the outside as well.

May he finally find the peace that seemed to elude him here.

Right. This brought to mine the apology I had to make to John Fetterman, for sympathizing with those who mocked him in the last election. Then he showed himself to be brave and principled. Don’t have to agree with him on everything to admire him. If the progs try to “primary” him, I will contribute to his campaign.

Of course we wouldn't celebrate his death. Or the death of anyone. Only a microscopic soul would do such a thing. We won't (or shouldn't) even do a "yes but" thing about his politics.

Pick your favorite Reiner movie. Mine is "Princess Bride" which I watched about a dozen times with my sons when they were little. Now pick the worst way to go, and patricide has to be at the top of the list. So that is how I cannot help but remember him. He made a movie beloved by me and my sons, and was killed by his own son.

Karma..... Reiner had a mean streak for some unknown reason. I can say that because I read enough of his nasty posts. One wonders if he treated his son like he treated me (as part of the group he hated)

Peanut gallery view .. every person and situation is different. And Reiner did what worked for him in his professional and social community. And he got old .. I agree with much of what he spieled .. if this were 1979. (I still have Alabama relatives who won't vote for a Republican because .. they attacked and killed some of us in 1864.)

It’s a shame that, in many minds, Reiner will be remembered as a looney, deranged Trump hater rather than for his many achievements. Others still living, like De Niro, Streisand, O’Donnell and their ilk, have similarly allowed their hatred to render their talents irrelevant.

No one can feel good about the murder of the Reiners. Too many of us are struggling with drug-addicted children to take any pleasure in that. Maybe we can use this shared sense of suffering to bring us together , for once. And to seek ways to respond to and overcome the beast that is drug and alcohol addiction.

RIP, Meathead. I still feel a measure of affection for you and that long-ago role.
