The reason we couldn't pick another Republican besides Trump is because all the "sane" Republicans were too cowardly to address the main issues that the people wanted tackled.

Trump closed the border without negotiating a "comprehensive immigration solution" which just would have guaranteed a continuous flow of illegal migrants to provide the cheap labor that corporate America wants.

Trump confronted our NATO allies and demanded that they pay more for their own defense. He didn't care if he was mocked by the elites.

Trump imposed tariffs on countries who wanted free access to our huge consumer market while they built barriers to entry to their own markets. He didn't listen to the "experts" who assured us the tariffs would ruin our economy

The rude, brash Trump, who is an embarrassment to our ruling class, exists because our ruling class failed to deliver for the people.

I wasn't always a fan of Trump, I had the same misgivings about his character flaws as a lot of people. But the one thing I am sure of is that Trump loves his country and wants America to succeed. Contrary to what so many of his opponents believe, he is not doing this to enrich himself. It would have been much easier and more profitable for him had he retired from political life after 2020. But he wants America to win. He wants America to be the best country in the world with the strongest military, the strongest economy, and the nicest ballroom.

Trump is far from perfect but he is the toughest, most resilient leader I have ever seen. He is our last, best hope.

Among the things that encouraged me about this podcast, this stands out, and for this I am most grateful: while my children all voted Democrat, they know I voted for Trump and sincerely love me anyway.

Google has a breakdown in its definition of sympathy, empathy, and compassion. We are told that compassion is “empathy in action.” My wonderful children have consistently shown compassion towards me. They gladly include me in family meals and other gatherings, and they don't hesitate to come to my assistance when they know I need it.

In short, they love me and know I love them. There is hope in the world, dear Sasha; my family is proof. So keep fighting but don't despair. America will always be worth it. 🇺🇸

Trapped in IL's avatar

You have good kids and there is hope for them to see the light…always. So back in 2015, my son convinced me to vote for Trump! I felt a bit like Sasha in that I voted for him, but really WASNT a supporter. Well, that has changed. No one is perfect, but Trump is the closest we have right now, and who can deny all the wins he has had?

Centrist's avatar

you said "So no, I don’t regret my vote for Trump. I only regret I didn’t see it sooner. I didn’t see what we were building, the damage we would cause, or where it was headed until it was too late. " I have seen the same in my 86 years.

From WIKI:

"Eisenhower's warning primarily focused on the dangers of the "military-industrial complex," which he believed could lead to excessive influence of military and defense interests on national policy. He cautioned that this could undermine democracy and lead to a future where military power overshadows civilian governance and societal needs"

His warning was prescient, but short on inclusion. Kennedy brothers tried to rein in some of the parts of the relationships beyond the military and they paid the ultimate price. No president since has focused on the causation but rather focused on the results. Until Trump, and he has almost paid the price....twice.

Hate permeates his detractors and voiced often. Hate is emotional; in the Bible hate directed to a person is on a level of murder.

Whatever began after WW2 has now matured, and the causes are being addressed, but the end is not yet in sight. We are a divided nation facing extinction of what our Republic is all about.

For me the #1 issue was illegals and deportation. Knowing what I know now I would still vote for him.

No other Republican candidate would have shut the border and handle illegals. Not one. AND Kamala and the Democrats would have made it worse. No thanks!!!

Just know, when Democrats are throwing a tantrum and are very upset, something GOOD is being done about 99% of the time.

Donald Trump is John Mack in The Guardian.

I'm hardly a Trump worshiper. He has some VERY rough edges, but he has a good heart and when I watch him do some things that make me cringe, I think back to an episode of Star Trek, The Enemy Within, in which Kirk is split into two personalities; one ruthless, the other kind to the point of paralysis. It is left to Spock to realize that both parts of his psyche are necessary for him to function as the leader he does. Trump could not have survived without that iron, often abrasive, core. He cannot be beaten. The most they can do is kill him.

DAVID DEMILO's avatar

There is very little going on right now that Gene Roddenberry hadn't imagined in some way. I also thought about that episode. Though it was a comment on human nature, it is illustrated by Trump and many other leaders of lesser fame.

With Trump in 2016, the question for me became 'who do I believe loves the country the most Hillary or Trump?' The decision was easy. And that is the question I will always ask myself with each election. I feel extremely grateful that this country and the world has this man as president of the U.S.

Trump doesn't have a magic wand to fix problems that have been decades in the making. I think he has done what he can to bring down energy prices. With a Congress and country as evenly divided as it is, it will be very difficult to get out of this mess. I'm not sure if it's even possible without some type of societal collapse.

But if the question is why was Trump elected instead of another generic Republican, the answer is that at least Trump was aware that on the issues of immigration and trade the status quo was not working.

When the National Review came out with its Never Trump issue I began calling myself the Forever Trumper. Living in NYC most of the people I knew were voting the other way and, of course, I would get the "How can you justify voting for...?" question. My answer was pretty simple. The Donald was like the plumber who tapped ashes from his cigarette on the floor as he unclogged the toilet. The exterminator who doesn't wipe his feet at the door before entering. Sometimes a bit of cleanup is necessary after he leaves, but he does the job he is retained to do. And the important thing is that the toilet works and the termites are gone.

Yes, it saddens me that President Trump says things, and I think oh, God, but as Dennis Prager, said back 2016, that President Trump does not have a filter in his mind, what he says and feels he blurts out. He does not think about the consequences. I do not believe he is a racist, from what I have seen, he really cares about people. Look at all the people whose loved ones were in prison in some God forsaken place and suddenly we see pictures of moms and sons reunited. When the President was mocked and victimized for 4 years and they tried to stop him from running in the 2024 election, I was amazed, how he could sit in courts and news media endless attracts and not erupt, this man is incredible, I would have gone berserk! Yet he did not and by a miracle God return to the Presidency and then he did not hunt down these monsters, for the monsters sure would have done it to him, but not President Trump, he when to work to solve our problems. Revenge wasn’t top priority, getting America back on the right footing was. But did he see the video or not, don’t know, but if he did and let the offence slide, can you blame him for being human? Just to give back what was dished out to him, for so many years? We needed this flawed man because that unfiltered mind dared to say the truth no matter what the consequences.

As a follower of Jesus, I have come to know the greatest act of is love is forgiveness. We can give people money, and our time, but to forgive, that is the hardest act of love any person can give to another who has been offended. The New Testament says that if we don’t forgive others, then God will not for give us. I pray for President Trump every day that he will come to the full knowledge of God, that he will forgive those who have been so evil to him and I believe if he does then he won't let those things slip because he remembers the monsters of hate, but for now I can’t fault him, even though wrong, he handled the situation of hate far better than I would have. God bless our President for all this faults I still love him.

https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2026/02/not_to_worry_trump_did_not_post_a_racist_video_about_the_obamas.html

...

You see, the video is a screen recording captured by an unknown third party. And what the unknown third party was also clearly unaware of (or, possibly, didn’t care about) was the automated beginning of another, entirely unrelated video.

So, what you get after 58 seconds of a serious video about a serious topic is two seconds of an automatically played video showing Michelle and Barack Obama’s heads attached to the cartoon bodies of simian creatures.

Look up the NGP-VAN scandal in 2015. The firewall between campaigns kept falling and the Bernie campaign kept reporting it, but nothing got done. The NGP-VAN was controlled by Dsbbud Wasserman Schultz's nephew and was firmly on team Hillary. After weeks of no action and the Bernie files being mysteriously moved or gone missing, a Bernie staffer who was on loan from the party and was widely believed to be a Dem establishment plant printed a cover page from one of Hillary's files intending to prove that the firewall was dropping, and within minutes the campaign lost all access to their data and was informed they were disqualified from running in the primary, which was against DNC primary rules as Bernie was supposed to get a six week notice and a hearing before being locked out, they werent allowed to just cut him out. It was like it was coordinated, anc if happened completely in Bernies absence.

And of course, within hours, the headlines screamed that Bernie had personally “hacked” poor saint Hillary's campaign and where is your God now, berniecrats, do you see not what a dishonest criminal you are supporting in the face of a truly good woman, only a true sexist could possibly continue to support Bernie!

What I’m saying is there is no lie, attack, or other shady dishonest or criminal action the Democrats have visited upon Trump that was not first piloted against Bernie. Even the Russian asset shit started in the primary as an anti-Bernie talking point, claiming that ths Russians hired him to undermine Hillary and take over the country for Putin. And they still claimed that after Trumps first win, that somehow Bernie, who had worked harder campaigning for Hillary than Hillary did, who was capitulation shamefully to the DNC, was a Russian asset who was hired by Putin to secure the election fir Trump by making Hillary look bad.

So yeah, I never believed their lies about Trump because they'd already pulled the same shit on Bernie and his supporters, fight down to demonizing us as subhuman traitors.

Trav86's avatar

It doesn’t matter what Trump does. Handed them a gift? Maybe, maybe not—as the TikTokker says above, it was very likely a staffer’s mistake. But the left will smear him as racist, sexist, rapist, demented - they make it up. They don’t need a pretext. It’s just what they do.

This is the left's problem. They want to label Trump as a Nazi. They are calling him the 'N' word. Isn't that racist in its context and affects him very deeply? I think he is perfectly within his rights to label them back. Look at politics of old with name slinging balance and then ask yourself, "How many Nazis would help Israel?"

I don't regret my vote for him either because of the alternatives.

KEVIN PEARSON's avatar

How many Nazis would allow their daughters to marry a Jew?

On a side note, what Russian asset would convince India to stop buying Russian oil?

Cat C.'s avatar

Or tell the EU not to buy Russian oil or allow the Russians to build a new oil pipeline!!! The left have lost their minds and THIS is the type of thing we need to say to them to maybe help them get out of their insanity.

Beeswax's avatar

From close-up observation of the TDS sufferers in my orbit, I doubt they can be helped out of their insanity. They've abandoned free speech and a plurality of views, the very principles that they claim to uphold.

Any positive fact about Trump or his policies (e.g., eliminating "gender affirming care") that you'd point out would be dismissed with a degree of scorn so offensive that your pity would be overridden by disgust.

The repetition of talking points is a sure sign that they're all drinking the same kool-aid from the same media sources. Hang around long enough and you'll hear them yell "did you hear what Trump said?" every few minutes, unprovoked, like a tic...a sign that they've been ruminating about the end of the world again. No wonder they're in such bad moods.

I don't recommend it, but if you're planning on attempting an intervention, wear a mask just in case.

Richard's avatar

All true but let me reinforce something others have said. Without Trump, we would have a flaccid Republican party. This is not a theoretical fear. All you have to do is look at the useless

conservative parties in Europe. Germany, France, Poland and worst of all the UK. They are eager to betray their own supporters and join in coalitions with socialists or even further left parties rather than do the natural thing and join what the media likes to call the far right. Only exceptions are Italy and Hungary. They do this to protect open borders and the trans madness.

The Republican party would have been like that but for Trump. Remember that twit, Romney, who was the candidate only 4 years before Trump. There will still be a struggle for the soul of the Republican party post-Trump but now there are plausible successors.

The Democrat Party is mostly white liberal women and yet, Trump has always won white women. The Democrat Party consists mainky of a MINORITY of white women.

We saw this in MN elections in 2024.

Royce White ran as the GOP Senate candidate against Amy Klobuchar (now running for Governor).

Royce is a tatted up Black Minnesotan who played in the NBA and was not a candidate any normal Republican thought belonged on the ticket, yet he performed a miracle in Minnesota.

Compared to Klobuchar's 2018 Senate victory against a highly accomplished GOP opponent, Royce White shaved 6 points off her margin of victory. Should have gained 6 points, but the minority voters in MN are sick and tired of sending their kids to school being taught by our public schools that they're victims...that they should look the other way when their son comes home as a daughter....that they can only depend on the government to provide and protect them...

This is the MAGA Impact....and this year when either Kendall Qualls (Black) or Lisa DeMuth (Black) run against Amy Klobuchar (whiter than white)...I have every belief that either Kendall or Lisa is going to be able to restore the Minnesota Miracle, but it's going to take time...and help.

Cooper Raymond's avatar

Blue MAGA.

Like Batya Ungar-Sargon.

She has clearly articulated her transformation to Blue MAGA.....second only to Sasha Stone.

That's the split in the Democrat Party Populists.

You have the remaining Elites and Establishment (think Clinton's, Obamas, Pelosi's, Klobuchars) and then think AOC, Sanders, Fetterman, Manchin

Lower in the hierarchy than the Elites, these Populists fall into one of three camps.

1) Die hard Marxists like DSA, BLM, Antifa and the other Anarchists who want to burn America the ground and use the Karl Marx rebuilding tutorial to guide them in the reconstruction.

2) The moderate Populists like Sanders used to be....and Fetterman and Manchin and even Bill Maher. They're holding on to the Democrat Party...refusing to let his fall into the hands of the DSA...but their fight is waning. They'll have to choose soon between 1) and 3) or checking out entirely.

3) Blue MAGA...#WalkAway....Batya......Sasha....still don't like Trump but have come to understand that his presence is about the only thing that will rebuild an America for everyone to all Americans.

I know about Republicans because I voted for Reagan in '80, At the time, I got info. from conservatives groups my mail and by radio. Later, I watched C-span and FOX (back when FOX was mostly accurate and conservative) and the last few years, also Forbes Breaking News on You tube and other news sources. Every single other Republican that was in a leadership position so they could've been president instead of Trump, would've caved in the midst of the bogus Russia collusion attack and the impeachment that came after. They would've resigned under the immense pressure, no doubt. That's what Obama and Dems wanted. Now, more Republicans are braver and speak up, although most still haven't gotten to Trump's level of courage when it comes to taking ACTION.

Personally, I'll continue to speak up and do my part - VOTE, talk to others, etc. and I'll keep being optimistic and praying... because I remember way way back when, posting a comment online about US "democracy" (this was decades before Dems started with their "threat to our democracy" thing, which really they are saying "threat to our Democrat party"), I'd correct an author or another commentator and say "We are a constitutional republic, not a democracy; the Founders didn't like pure democracies at all" and one (maybe two) others would agree with me or post the same. Now, many people post this truth. We, citizen journalists, have been changing things and we can't quit now.

Well, seagulls would come the 10 or 15 miles inland for the pizza crust and miscellaneous scraps. They'd be there in the quad at 10:20 break and again at lunch, so they’d agree with you. But it was 75¢ for a slice of the rectangular pizza. Same price as a pack of Marlboros at 7-11. Or coincidentally a 32 oz bottle of Budweiser was also 75¢, after tax. 40 oz hadn't been invented yet. You must be thinking about when you're sitting out on the stoop, giving the crust from the Totino’s frozen pizza or Tony's frozen pizza you got at Grocery Outlet for $2.99 to the grackle. Or pigeons maybe.

I'm in Europe. The women here don't understand why the men in America get married. All I can point to in defense of American men is the high divorce rate. I've watched the change in American women during my lifetime. Notice that Amal Clooney is Italian and Persian. Imagine any American woman being married to George Clooney--the number of media posts would be endless from the "Look at me, look at me" generation.

American women are not honest about wanting an ATM with genitalia attached. Don't want to be moms so much as wanting to post on social media about being a mom and showing how their kids dress or act in a way that makes the mom feel good or will get 'likes'. Meghan Markle gets plenty of criticism, rightly so IMO, but truly how different are other women in America?

Low income kids were and are raised to blame white males, a group maligned for so long that Charlie Kirk arose from the ashes like some phoenix. I didn't agree with much of what he asserted, but I noticed the "healing" of young, white men. People criticize Nick Fuentes, but those same people are part of the reason Nick has a large following. Barack Obama's dream of putting white men under the thumb of black men, the latter a rather small minority in the USA, has been crushed. It won't happen, and neither will Hillary Clinton's dream of degrading white men until subservient to white women.

Sasha: Tell me what Trump has done, just one thing, that comes close to this [sterilizing children who can’t consent; Destroying their bodies with medical experiments], and be prepared to answer it 20 years from now, because I promise to hang it around your necks like a dead cat for as long as I live.

👍 An albatross that the Democrats are going to wear for a very long time. They may have to fold their tents and steal off into the night to escape the ignominy of that crime. ICYMI, Sam Harris belatedly saw the light:

QUOTE; SH: Having the thought police suddenly proscribe the use of the term “woman,” and demanding that we speak instead of “birthing person,” or “menstruators,” or “people with ovaries,” or some other Orwellian construction designed to test everyone's patience and sanity… the sight of people being deplatformed on social media or fired from universities for merely stating that there are two biological sexes—I actually know a professor who lost her job at Harvard over this… witnessing an epidemic of gender confusion spread through our schools, when people with their own eyes could see that this was a social contagion being encouraged by the schools themselves—the ultimate fruition of which, in many cases, is irreversible medical procedures… We've got an epidemic of teenage girls wanting double mastectomies—and some are actually getting them, based on ideas being spread on TikTok—and any parent who resists this trend gets demonized and, under certain conditions, could lose custody of their kids?

Congratulations, Democrats. You have found the most annoying thing in the fucking galaxy and hung it around your necks. UNQUOTE

"reckoning", indeed. Should be hell itself to pay for that crime; the Democrat Party will be lucky to survive it, and probably shouldn't.

I’m reading 1984 right now. One of my favorite books.

👍 I only ever read it just recently. Though I remember reading his "Animal Farm" some 60 years ago when I went off to university and got tangled up with a bunch of Trotskites during the anti-Vietnam-War protests. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times ...😉🙂

But I also have his "Politics and the English Language" on my To-Read list:

Some cogent and still useful insights. Several people have, quite reasonably, argued that the transactivist mantra -- more or less endorsed and promoted by the Democrats -- which has it that "trans women are women (!!11!!l)" is a classic case of Orwell's own "2+2=5".

Though both may have been outdone by Ignatius Loyola's much earlier "Rules for Thinking With the Church":

Wikipedia: Rule 13 of Ignatius' Rules for Thinking with the Church said: "That we may be altogether of the same mind and in conformity[...], if [the Church] shall have defined anything to be black which to our eyes appears to be white, we ought in like manner to pronounce it to be black."

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=St._Mary%27s_Higher_Secondary_School,_Dindigul&oldid=797030740

In more modern terms: That we may be altogether of the same mind and in conformity, if Kamala Harris and the Democrats shall have defined anyone to be a woman which to our eyes appears to be a man [e.g., Dylan Mulvaney], then we ought in like manner to pronounce "her" to be a woman.
