Who Let the Dog Whistles Out?

The idea that Walker might win Georgia has many people losing their minds in the press and on Twitter.

The Georgia election was supposed to be the slam dunk. Now they find they have to send even Obama himself out there to try to drag Warnock over the finish line. It didn’t take long for the attacks on Herschel Walker to become full-blown dog whistles.

Just imagine if this headline and photo were written about any Black candidate on the Left:

The perfect candidate for a fallen party is a Black man. Funny, wasn’t it supposed to be the party of White Supremacy? Oh I’m sure there will be a work-around for that. They can’t think a guy like Walker thinks for himself. Na, it couldn’t be. He’s got to be an Uncle Tom or a White Supremacist in Black Face. Something, anything to allow them to attack him with everything in their arsenal, which in this case is something to appeal to the sinister nature of Georgia voters.

Usually, if a white man like Peter Wehner —a Conservative Christian — wrote a story like this about any Black man on the Left, he’d be forced to issue an apology and would probably be fired by the Atlantic by the end of the day.

Newsflash. It’s all good now. That stuff about firing Donald McNeil from the New York Times and the fear and paranoia we’ve all lived through for the past two years — poof. Gone. None of it matters now.

Why? Because Walker is a Trump guy. If they’re attached to Trump, all bets are off.

The Never Trump Republicans don’t understand MAGA any more than the Left does, so they can’t mount a proper offense. They’re fighting people and a movement that does not exist. They have never taken the time to try to understand them, humanize them, and understand that this is their country, too, and they have a right to fight for it.

They seem to be flooding the Christian sites, as this piece popped up Baptistnews.com:

Wehner serves his purpose by sending a message not to the MAGA voters of Georgia but to the Conservative Christians of Georgia. And probably, many on the Left figure, they’re racists over there in Georgia anyway, and if we can keep enough of them home on Election Day, then maybe Warnock will win by default.

The Good Liberals on the Left who have been screaming about “systemic racism” for two years will say nothing. He’s getting what he deserves, they think. Heck, they’ll even join in on it. I bet if you venture over to blue-check Twitter right now, you’ll see a bacchanalia of indulgence in mocking, smearing, and attacking Walker.

Here, they attempt to convict Walker by association with Ye West.

This image suggests that Walker is out of his rightful mind because Ye is.

But just because they both support Trump, are Black, and have struggled with mental health issues does not make them the same. Ye’s overt antisemitism and self-destructive behavior are the opposite of what Walker is doing now. He’s running for the Senate and might win. And yet, in the eyes of the Left, he is disposable.

John Cleese and Andrew Doyle

My friend Jim Trageser has a good piece about free speech today and how the New Left has hijacked the Old Left. He brings up John Cleese as an example. Cleese is joining Andrew Doyle for discussions on “Cancel Culture.”

Cleese is among those who have been screamed at and canceled despite being a standard blue-check liberal on Twitter. He hates Trump and his supporters, not to mention any candidate endorsed by him. He’s also defended JK Rowling, and he is now exiled from the Royal Court. They hate Cleese as much as he hates Trump, or at least the version of Trump he thinks exists.

I can’t get too upset about John Cleese getting nailed. By mocking people, he gets his Twitter likes like every other blue-check. Thing is, it’s not funny. Not even a little. They make fun of Walker’s intelligence which is low-hanging fruit and, I think, unfair. Walker is doing what none of them have the nerve to do.

I’m not saying criticizing or mocking Herschel Walker is racist.

These are not my rules. These are the new rules of the new Left that says white people mocking or criticizing Black people is “white privilege” at best. Conservatives are often called racist for mocking or criticizing Black people by the Left for that very reason.

The Left protects people of color from criticism, especially by white people. The Right doesn’t. This is the foundation for the idea that Trump and MAGA are racists.

The truth is that Conservatives tend to see people of color as equals, where Liberals do not. That’s according to this 2018 study at Yale:

“The researchers found that liberal individuals were less likely to use words that would make them appear highly competent when the person they were addressing was presumed to be black rather than white. No significant differences were seen in the word selection of conservatives based on the presumed race of their partner. “It was kind of an unpleasant surprise to see this subtle but persistent effect,” Dupree says. “Even if it’s ultimately well-intentioned, it could be seen as patronizing.”

This patronizing effect has all but destroyed comedy. It was actually funny when the Left could make fun of itself. This would never be allowed in a post-2020 America.

We laugh to relieve tension, not to bully other people who aren’t as popular or accepted as we are. We don’t laugh in place of tripping someone on the way to the drinking fountain. We laugh because something forbidden has been suddenly brought up.

Sites like the Babylon Bee often make fun of Trump and his supporters.

But in general, they take sides with their humor, assuming everyone watching or listening agrees with them.

Great Journalism Lives

If great comedy on the Left is a thing of the past, so is great journalism. Except for every so often when something great emerges.

This piece in Esquire Magazine by Chris Heath is so good I almost can’t believe it was published. I didn’t expect it to be, in any way, fair-minded. We just don’t see that in journalism anymore. And yet, someone was reporting on a story about so-called extremists but being confronted with unexpected things, like his own humanity, contradictory facts, and the massive operation required to deliver necessary proof of extremism heading into the 2020 election.

He writes:

“And so, even though the judge would often rule to exclude from the forthcoming trial what had been quoted, by reading through hundreds of these documents I could submerge myself in the morass.

As I did so, I found myself somewhat taken aback to be contemplating thoughts I hadn’t expected to entertain. For instance, it became increasingly apparent to me that, despite all the surveillance and recording over many months before these men were arrested, the connective tissue of the purported conspiracy seemed perplexingly elusive. By cherry-picking and stitching together disparate statements, incidents, and circumstances, you could certainly fashion an argument that such a conspiracy may have existed—just as the prosecution maintained—but it did seem surprising that the kinds of sustained conversation you might have assumed would be there, in which the principal participants sat around and discussed both the broad scope and the practical minutiae of what they intended to do, didn’t appear to exist.

He doesn’t exactly excuse the men who were arrested and charged. His job isn’t to render any verdict but to bring the truth to the reader as best as he can find it. That is about the best you can hope for with any good journalist at any time, but especially now.

Heath doesn’t make the connection between the FBI and the need to find extremists ahead of the 2020 election, but it’s easy to connect the dots, knowing what we now know about the involvement of the FBI in the four-year coup to bring down Trump.

Reading this piece, it seems abundantly clear that the FBI had to have some major involvement on January 6th. I hope if the GOP takes Congress in November, they can do a real investigation of that day. We’re not even allowed to bring up the FBI or Ray Epps because we’ll be called conspiracy theorists.

But since we’re on the subject, why is it that Epps hasn’t yet sued for defamation like he said he would? Why did Epps say he went to the FBI to “clarify” that he wasn’t an insurrectionist, and they simply took his word for it and let him go? Does that sound like the same FBI depicted in this story above?

Either way, this story gives me hope that good journalism still exists.
