If Trump gets back in the Oval Office he has to take a serious look at who he is going to surround himself with. Pompeo is a national disgrace who still gets his butt kissed by the Murdoch bunch. Notice nothing from the corporate media on Assange or Lira but hey Nalvany, Nalvany, Nalvany. Who else would push this issue to the floor but Carlson, I mean Sean Hannity LOL. The once great Rule Brittania nation is nothing but a decrepit old bulldog, licking the face of DC's neocons. This man has been in maximum security for five years becaus he published news. Tucker better watch himself they are building a case in those DC backrooms. God bless both these men.

Thanks, Stephen. Literally the very same thoughts -- and words -- came out of my mouth earlier this evening as I watched this. Pompeo is every bit as much swamp slime as Barr, once-Great Britain nothing more than America's cell bitch.

The naked hypocrisy of the ceremonial outrage over the death of Alexi Navalny contrasted with the almost complete dismissal of the fate of Julian Assange really tells you where people stand and how vested they are in conforming to the will of the mob while ignoring any personal investment in the truth.

Also, Mike Benz is not suicidal.

If Trump gets back in office the first thing he should do is pardon Assange, and Snowdon too. He should have done it the first time around. Huge disappointment that he didn't.

Add the J6ers to first to be pardoned

If we learned nothing else from 2016-2020, it is that Trump is weak, stupid and easily manipulated.

If you need proof that our government (or the forces that control it) is/are evil, you need look no further than what it/they have done to Julian Assange, Edward Snowden and Ross Ulbricht.

Libertarian's avatar

Add JFK and RFK to that list.

I’m not happy Trump didn’t exonerate him

I suppose we are supposed to think that bad, evil KGB agents like Putin are much more willing to kill people than are good, dutiful CIA agents. I venture to doubt that. The default condition is that all entities, human and animal, individual or collective, act in accordance with self-interest.

GabeReal's avatar

Yeah, just ask Seth Rich…

David White's avatar

The "default" status of self-interest relates to Trump's current predicament. It is in the self-interest of real-estate investors to 1) round up the value of their properties when seeking loans, and 2) to round down the value of their properties when paying taxes. I have heard that both practices are, very unsurprisingly, routine in the world of New York real-estate.

The burden of proof should have been on the state to show that it was not guilty of "selective enforcement". Both selective enforcement and selective non-enforcement (as when there were protesters at the homes of the Supremes) are *extremely* dangerous to democracy. I was very disappointed to learn recently that arguments involving selective enforcement are almost never accepted. That is against the rule of law. Applying the law only to enemies must be one of the most effective ways to destroy democracy. No wonder the Lefto-Fascists love it!

Wasn't Assagne basically trying to alert us that our own government was illegally spying on us? (Do I have the facts right?)

Allen's avatar

God bless Julian.

Vonu's avatar

It wasn't the CIA that Assange embarrassed, it was the NSA whose contractor Edward Snowden worked for.

GabeReal's avatar

FWIW, Trump didn’t do anything to help Assange either. Just sayin’.

Mr. Assange is a scapegoat for the Obama administration's 2 Russian hoaxes: Russian Collusion (FBI) and Russian Interference (CIA). He likely wasn't a Russian asset in the Russian Interference narrative--as Putin would never use a third party to launch an attack on Hillary Clinton, especially one that did not release any adulterated data.

I write about this extensively in The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming and Treason--two Ebooks that deal with Russian Interference--under the pen name Occam's Razor by Dan Butterfield
