Ukraine is a problem but Europe is THE problem. Vance was right. We no longer share values with them. Europe is an authoritarian mess for the Urals to Ireland. Fortunately, they are weak so we can just depart without risk. Trade is OK as long as it is fair but no political or military alliances.

I know that the elites are authoritarian. But I wonder how deep it goes. There does seem to be considerable (and justified) populist resentment.

The ruling class will not give up without a fight. Consider Romania. French are already trying Le Pen. Germans are working on disarming AfD. Poles are prosecuting conservatives.. UK is convicting people of thought crime.

Everybody's got an opinion. Slap the shit out of Zelensky and stop the war. Pull out of NATO until they fulfill their monetary defense obligations. Open negotiations with Russia for trade and shut China out.

You can’t have it both ways. Against regime change and calling for regime change. Trump tried cutting off funding and was overruled by the court.

I wish he hadn’t started a trade war with Canada and Mexico in the midst of all this crap. Ukraine/Russia, Israel/Hamas.. He should have first negotiated an end to the wars, restored our economy and cleaned out our agencies. Instead of creating a scenario that’s pissing off his own supporters, the rest of the world , including the unwarranted conflict with Panama and ensuring the defeat of Poliviere, great Canadian candidate who was poised for a landslide victory.

Mac Gregor urged Ukraine to surrender three days into to the invasion. Now is more of the same. A weird almost giddy glee in what he hopes is the destruction of Ukraine and reabsorbtion into the Russian empire. Perhaps Russia is entitled to restore Finland and Warsaw to the Russian fold as well. In Mr. machetes view? What is occurring is actually a struggle for the future of Russia. Ukraines turn to the west poses an existing to Putin’s illiberal mafia state. If Ukraine succeeds in aligning with the democratic west then who knows maybe the Russians would demand the same for themselves. Ukraine is far from perfect in terms of corruption but compared to Putin’s Russia it’s more like Switzerland.

If Ukraine had listened, they would still have the territory they now lost.

Putin’s plan was to drive zelinsky into exile and establish a puppet regime that would have implemented a Crimean/Donbass style rigged plebiscite and then absorb Ukraine into the Russian federation outright. Your argument is that Putin is merely a rational actor that would have stopped aggressive expansion if his legitimate national security concerns were met doesnt hold water based on his track record. He has been pursuing an expansionist agenda since 2000. The notion that Putin would return to peacefully ruling Russia without any further expansionist goals should he only get a buffer in Ukraine is This is a false analogy.Putin’s aim is to extinguish any idea of Ukrainian national identity and repress any opposition by force by labeling resistant Ukrainians as treasonous bandera-nazis. You can see a sneak peak of this intent by the criminal deportation of Ukrainian children to be raised as Russian. No one wants to die or for people to die, but the graveyards of Europe are filed with many who thought the sacrifice wax worth it.
