The Fani Willis case is gone, the Jack Smith Case is trashed, so this is it - lawfare over.

No. The ridiculous $83 million judgement still stands. The 400+ million "fraud" judgement still stands. Jack Smith's DC case may be on the ropes, but Smith is a vicious prosecutor. I have hope that the classified documents case will go away as Justice Thomas provided a roadmap for Judge Cannon.

The immunity decision seems to have been well guided by the Trump prosecutions. Another grand Democrat plan gets a mouthful of turf.

And I agree 100% with you! These are cases that need to be included under scrutiny by the same SC decision! Both are fraud cases and included the same testimony!

The question I have is civil versus criminal. I'm not an attorney (although I play one sitting on my couch) and have not read the decision, so I don't know if the Justices addressed civil causes of action. My bet is no.

The Democrats are watching all of their carefully laid plans are going up in smoke. No one else other than DJT could have withstood the onslaught of lies bullshit like he did and our enemies know it. A knight in dented and tarnished armor slaying the socialist dragon.

Debate night pulled the mask off the true face and mental acuity of our sitting president. China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran saw it also. These are power hungry dictators. They also know our military is under strength and weak. If you believe Biden is physically and mentally capable of defending our country then vote for him. There is always an equal and opposite reaction to every action. Trigger warning! Congress met quietly and passed a law requiring 17 to 35 year olds to again sign NJ up for the draft. Got Kids?

All the Deep State rats over at MSNBC - McCord, Weismann, Norm Eisen - the ones who are at the root of ALL of the lawfare shyte - are apoplectic which means SCOTUS ruling is over the target.

You wonder why Trump didn't fire Fauci or Bill Barr et al? Because he was threatened with 'obstruction of justice', etc.

No. More. The government rats at the 'top' are rightly freaking out: they can no longer obstruct the legitimate Executive Branch.

Every time I see a pic of this "judge" it causes me to imagine one of those serial killers or serial somethings with the dead-eye look. I think I read somewhere that is the look of a nutjob. My term not the article's. If I saw that guy walking down my street I would likely step out on the porch with a cocked gun, safety-off in my hand and yell, "Don't even think about it!" and watch him until he disappears. Very interesting. We're seeing some very high level legal maneuvering between the parties. Merchan's statement indicates doubt that the conviction will hold.

The reasoning for the delay makes no sense. The ‘crimes’ DJT was convicted of occurred BEFORE he was POTUS, and therefore not official POTUS acts. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad the D’s are backing off on this. I’m just pointing out they are doing so with no logic.

Matt, I think he wrote the checks after he took office. Thus the change in sentencing dates. Not sure how that fits with official actions, maybe they are just giving themselves more time to get the poor man.

The case has been so wrong, so full of holes, maybe they’re running scared.

I’m guessing based on his lawyers filings. There appears to be a nuance in that -“evidence related to presidents' official actions cannot be used to help prove criminal cases involving unofficial actions”. Evidence may have been gathered “illegally” while he was POTUS. Whether it has ANY merit is unknown. What is known is a created a sentencing delay while it’s reviewed.

Maybe they’re freaking out more because they fear the potential of what Trump could do with immunity if elected again rather than what he did before? I also don’t get the relationship of the delay and this decision though.

It looks to me like newly minted law in an area that had previously been left vague. Any proper judge would have to respond to that. Why Merchan has suddenly decided to become proper is the question.

JBell's avatar

Matt L. : the problem is that the Bragg team used testimony from people (character witnesses) about what he did while he was President - thereby giving information to the jury that was illegitimate and now unlawful. Trump's team issued objections before and after making this point.

This is all great fun but whatever happens will have zero effect on the real problem which is that half the population hates the other half. You can stick a fork in the United States because it isn't united. Possible it persists as an empire with that name but allegiance will be coerced or manipulated via propaganda.

Since we are at the eve of Independence Day, take a look at the Declaration and ask yourself whether the list of grievances applies today. It's enough to make you want George III back, if not the British government that will take power tomorrow.

Libertarian's avatar

I did try to read the grievances but it was a bit complicated wording. It does seem to me we have survived worse; Revolution, Civil War, WWI, Depression, WWII, Vietnam, Covid, and Biden to date. I do appreciate that not all of these had the characteristic of half the country hating the other half. I am encouraged that polls show the youngest bracket of voters significantly increasing for Trump and the huge shift in France with La Pen’s win. I also hope Americans are now far less trusting of MSM like NYT, WAPO, MSNBC, etc. Happy 4th, amigo.
