It’s another Executive Order…so does congress do anything to safeguard after Trump leaves, if the demonic rats get back in power?

As one who believes in good and evil, thank you for using the word demonic. We’re way past the usual human foibles and greed, and into demon territory. Too many, imo, are afraid to call it what it is.

Some reports expect Johnson and Thune to include this EO’s provisions in the Big Beautiful Bill. If so, it could act as a direct forcing mechanism on many Ds, particularly those in red districts, and either similarly force holdout Rs or give leaders margin to lose a few of the diehard Freedom Caucus members. In a perfect world it may provide enough spending cuts for those potential R holdouts and The BBB gets significant support across the aisle and passes w/ a safe if not big majority.

Good thoughts but.

I'm lazy, links to these reports?

Always skeptical of both Johnson and Thune. They are not playing the negotiation politics that Trump is using to effect. They are wedded to the uni-party political machinery and may even have their own skeletons they want to keep closeted.

But will the Democrats really be willing to abandon their Faustian Alliance with Big Pharma? (For more info read Caro's explanation of LBJ's path to power being laid by dam-builders, of all entities. Dam builders are not Big Pharma level dark force anymore because all the dams have been built. When Jimmy Carter tried to expose that particular alliance and reverse the damage, he was taken down by his own party as hard as they are now taking down Fetterman).

Ok... If "we" insist on believing the bullshit spewed by the Pseudo-Health industry, then bringing the prices down is a good thing!!

However, the real solution to the world's declining heath is to obliterate the Predatory Pharma Poison Purveyor Cartels (including Monsanto/Bayer, et al) and go back to eating real food grown and raised on real, chemical free soil!!

Agree with this. Also when we have been negotiating trade deals with other countries, often they don't want to buy our agriculture b/c GMOs, hormones, etc. EU & UK don't allow hormones and steroids in meat. Mexico doesn't want GMO corn. Our trade negotiators push other countries to take it. But why don't we just get with the program & ban GMOs, hormones and steroids here too?

Did a weekend college graduation road trip and we stopped at Buc-ee's gas and junk food and cheap Chinese wares emporium. Everything about that place is completely politcally incorrect and yet so Americana, and no matter what country you're from, (thanks Brandon) people love that place! Healthy food? Organic? Pesticide free and no micro-plastics...not at Buc-ee's and consumers don't want it, even though they know it's bad for them. Like 150 gas pumps (Now that is a statement!) And only 12 electric charging stations! Now I can't personally live like that everyday, but way to many people do and I don't think Donald "Big Mac" Trump can fix it.

Put down the wine bottle or marijuana or heroine and try to comprehend this....I agree with your comment! Ugly Americans don't want to eat healthy food. That is why Buc-ee's and McDonald's and all the others exist, yes? And big pharma. I didn't graduate, I went to one, so you need to practice your reading comprehension skills.

We have been subsidizing the rest of the world for far too long.

Now ask yourselves why his five predecessors haven't taken these steps. Really. Ask yourselves why our parents are paying social security taxes and being charged more for drugs and foreigners aren't. Symbolic of the entire government game.

American citizens have been subsiding socialized healthcare in Europe and Canada for far too long. The prices of prescriptions used here are much more expensive than in Europe or Canada. We demand they pay their fair share now.

History teaches us that redistributing the wealth never ends well for either party, starting back to at least 150 BC when the Gracchi Brothers started the reforms for the poor in the eroding Roman Republic. It took another 100 years before the tragic results manifested themselves but it is always the same: the poor end up becoming dependent on the government and then everyone is under the yoke of tyrnanny. Why can't we learn from history?

Thanks Sasha. I listened to the whole thing. Was mostly awesome. Love the idea of competitive drug prices. But wouldn’t it be better if we didn’t need the drugs to begin with. Like in most cases we wouldn’t.

Treating the symptoms

I hope we hear more about this after they pass the Big Beautiful Bill

It’s all so interconnected.

Thank god for DT. At least he will be able to stop the bleed. For a while.

Imagine 4 more years with Biden or Kamala.

Why are so many Americans on drugs?

Stop drinking bottled water and any beverage in plastics. No more food in plastics, either.

Nano-particles accumulate in the body, rather than flushing out as most toxins do.

Big problems, to include men suffering prostrate problems (persistent pressure to urinate).

Lots of health issues from pervasive use of plastics in storing our liquids and foodstuffs. Seemed cheaper and everybody wins, but now that we know about nano-particles, plastics are destroying our health and the planet.

Let's put RFK Jr out of a job.

Get off plastic containers. Work out rigorously each day. Spend time each day admitting to err is human, to forgive divine. Find someone interesting to share your experiences and listen to their story. We didn't grow up needing to be entertained all the time, and except for streaming movies or analyzing the markets (I'm a social scientist), I spend all my time out in nature or eating at nice restaurants or communicating with people.

My grandmother 'retired' at 80 years old and then spent a decade doing volunteer church work, which was noted at her funeral. How do you want to be remembered?

Regarding the Trump gift plane fromQatar, Collette Harrington likes the plane and tweeted, "Safer than the junk Boeing produces."

But to clarify, Boeing produced the 'gift plane' too.

Good on the Pharma slap. Would be even better if the moribund Congress would enact into law.

Fine with Trump accepting a gift from a foreign nation. He's not going to personally own it. And if it become AF1 for a while, tells Boeing they need to shed their DEI crap and start building quality planes where the wheels and other bits fall off.

The $64B question is who funds the research. Since the rest of the world has price controls, th US consumer has been footing the entire bill. Obviously, this is both unfair and unsustainable. But now, the answer is no one funds it and the next generation doesn't happen. Better to use trade sanctions to get the load shared with the rich countries of Europe. Well aware of the various scandals but anticipating MAHA actions there.

It seems to me that the goal of the order is to force the drug manufacturers to give the best price to Americans. Initially this would mean a drop in revenue for the manufactures until they can renegoiate prices with the rest of the world. Then the American price will go up as well, but should still be the lowest. Essentially forcing an average across the globe. Everyone else's goes up a bit, America's prices drop significantly.

Richard's avatar

That would be nice but Europe has been freeloading off the US for generations and and not just on pharma. They won't easily quit and I think it will require a higher level of coercion than just renegotiating price.

Much of the university research has been federally funded, which is why all the concern about universities.

Maybe we need to separate the university from the research department. We also need to monitor the kind of reasonable research which can be government supported. Some of the government grants are as ridiculous as "How many angels can dance on a pin?"

I think Pharma funds university research as well as doing some in house. Also there was that really shady private research operation that was intertwined with Wuhan. They had at least some Federal money. It takes an enormous amount of money to get a product to market and most of them are dry holes. Pharma funds a lot on spec because the profits can be enormous if one pays of.

With regard to the brewing bruhaha over White South Africans coming to America, if Whites in South Africa have to go "back home" to Holland, why wouldn't Blacks in South Africa have to go "back home" to Cameroon? That is where the Bantu expansion started, around 1000 A.D. Bushmen forever!

Two things.

No where in the WH discussion do the mention how those of us on Medicare, forced by the government to purchase a Medicare prescription plan, (Medicare Part D) will benefit. I'm cautiously optimistic but await details, where the devil lies.

Re the jet from Qatar. The problem I have is that the gift is to Trump, not to the government. Trump is going to keep the jet when he leaves office. I think that is wrong. He should accept the gift on behalf of America, and leave the plane with us when he leaves office.

The problem, if you become seriously ill, and need drug benefits, you pay a significant penalty to re-enroll. God forbids that happens to you. But Trump's order must be turned into law for its long-term benefits to be realized.
