It used to be easy to get Irish citizenship and passport. Just needed one parent or grandparent born in Ireland. And US allows dual citizenship. It is nice to have that Irish passport when going to EU because you can go through the quicker lines at airports and customs as a city of an EU country.

I actually went to the theater two night in a row back in the day to see it twice, and own the DVD, and repeat lines out loud from the movie (“old mean old man Mike” just a couple of days ago, even though I’m a woman, and “don’t forget to punch the clock, Shorty” also recently) to myself, out loud.

I vaguely remember a scene with a quarry, and the main character being obsessed with learning Italian. The last time I saw it I was around ten, and that was many, many decades ago! It was a great reference.

I have lost several friends. However, my leftist daughter who can't get along with her mother who shares her politics, still engages with me. I seem some signs that her leftism is moderating but we agreed to not do politics. She was very right-wing in HS but then went to college. She did lose her sense of humor though even about non-political topics.
Amazing that the absurd and abusive cases brought by Alvin Bragg and Letitia James and Fani Willis and the raid on Mar a Lago are no longer part of the discussion, and the outright lies of the opposition and the media are now so routine that they are part of the environment. Trump could overcome this because he has the money to defend himself and he has extraordinary fortitude—doubtful that any other human could withstand this. He got shot, so we know he bleeds! He is by any definition a hero! Trump may be our last chance to dismantle the Regime of the Democrats, the media, academia, entertainment, public unions, government contractors, immigration nonprofits and the rent seekers.
I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t white knuckled at the moment. There’s no way to sugarcoat it. The present situation is existential for the two big sides in this epic showdown.

The forces of divine inspiration do seem to have intervened in the matter and on more than one occasion. The fraud will no doubt be massive but there’s something favorable to humanity that lingers in the air.

Gosh I love you. You are the BEST. One point I'd like to make: we root for the underdog because of our Christian roots, that cared for the downtrodden. It's not universal. Many cultures, such as the ancient Romans (and Nietschze and the fascists as well) thought of the underdog as repulsive and pathetic. It's more natural to root for the winners. Of course Trump is incredibly strong and like you said, he's a winner whatever happens. But the underdogs are the one with the joy. I pray that as Lincoln said many moons ago, this nation will experience a "new birth of freedom, that government of the people, by the people, and for the people, shall not perish from the earth."
