What a great night for New York City, the bluest city in the bluest state and Trump shows up with a superb line up of speakers and a gigantic crowd. I note that no one walked out and no one booed Trump unlike what has happened to the other candidate. We watched on tv and were energized and thrilled with every minute. For someone who, like you Sasha, was a Democrat stalwart and dismissed Trump as a buffoon, I have come to see his charm, his decency, his sense of humor, his intelligence, and his strength. No one else I can think of cold go through what he has been put through and come out sane. I can't wait to vote for him on Nov. 5. I'm a proud Republican now.

CA is redder than most people think. CA has an election system designed for fraud, like most of the US, only more so.

Its redder only rural areas which does make up a larger part of the map but no one really lives there. The Bastions where democrats have power there is also the biggest clusters of population.

Mary Ann Canton, I agree! It was an amazing night! All the way to the end with the closing singer.

I’m used to voting on Nov 5 as well but my family of 11 is voting early this year. This way we can track our vote and ensure it counts.

I'd be curious why he was selected. Did the Trump campaign talk to him beforehand, or know his kind of work? If no, they got sandbagged. If yes, it was a dumb, unforced error. Keep pushing forward.

That comedian's remarks were so revolting, and Tucker Carlson's referring to Kamala Harris as Samoan and low IQ were also not funny and borderline racist. Accusations of racism will dominate the news for the next few days--and for good reason. I'm wondering how much damage has been done to Trump's chances of winning.

Expand full comment
MK Fotopoulos's avatar

Oh, good grief. You have to call out people who are ridiculous.

It's totally fair on Harris' "roots" ... she "is" whatever she thinks will play to an audience, rather than just an American. And she is low IQ. How can she be seen as anything else after you've seen any five minutes of her talking?

She is the worst candidate foisted upon us in my lifetime, and I am old.

You must call out BS when you see it, and Tucker and Trump are most excellent at doing that.

Paul Scofield's avatar

Accusations of racism dominating the news? Nothing new there. Damage done? Not much. The professionally aggrieved already hate Trump and he did not make the remarks. I wouldn't be surprised at a straight up apology for the incident and a Trump campaign disavowal of the idiot who spoke.

The blue team lost the working class.

The first thing they will say when the economy is mentioned, is a stock market cite. It's like they're the guy on the Monopoly Board box. And THEN such a frown when you ask which McDonalds Kamala worked at. (in Canada?). about made MS-DNC comedian Bill Maher pee his pants the other night...

Thoughtful Reader's avatar

They didn't "lose" the working class - they outright, and with disgust, rejected them... They spat on them. They laughed at them.

They became the party of the arrogant, the imperious, the entitled. The party of scolds, bullies, mean-girl white leftist suburban women and pathetic, apologetic "men." They declared themselves superior to everyone, especially rural and working class Americans.

The blue team deserves every bit of that rejection to come back at them, tenfold.

Pendulums swing, baby.. and this one is coming back like a wrecking ball.

Harris was an employee of the McDonald’s on Central Avenue in Alameda, Calif., in 1983 during the summer after her freshman year at Howard University. Why would McDonalds keep records for 40+ years?

any response to Thoughtful Reader? You can just make up something or repeat what you've been told, NW. doesn't make it true. Who are the non-college degree people voting for? Who are the two and three job people voting for? The point is she (and you) feign working class cred. Remember when she couldn't think of a rapper she liked who was still alive? then, not even a single Prince song (as her favorite)? She's phony balogney, and the working class people see it. You do too, but are buried too deep apparently in the horrible machine to admit it. Aren't you embarrassed when Bernie does the same general speech all the time about income disparity never being higher--and knowing full well, Kamala as VP the last 4 years to make it so?

NWCitizen's avatar

Trump loves the praise & adoration of the working class who laugh at his vulgar jokes such as those delivered by Hincliffe at MSG, but he thinks anyone who isn't rich is a loser. Trump loves songs like "YMCA" that he played at his "dance" rally and songs by artists that forbid him to play their work because they can't stand him. I think income disparity is an enormous problem. BOTH Trump and Biden contributed to the current inflation caused by COVID shutdowns which decreased supply & demand. Trump signed a $2.3 Trillion handout during Covid, then Biden signed a $1.7 Trillion Covid bill This provided people with a lot of money at a time that supply was low, which is known to have a inflationary effect. Record low gas prices occurred because 2019 was a record year for oil production. When Covid hit, the demand for oil dropped out because people stayed home. That caused low gas prices during Trump’s admin which increased when demand went up after Covid when Biden took office.

I peeled out of the Democratic Party right around the same time that Tulsi did and for all the same reasons. My husband and I voted for Trump in California for the first time. There are many reasons I left the D party but the very first thing that happened for me was I just got so sick of listening to all their gloom and doom about EVERYTHING. Talk about a bunch of kill joys. The major urban area we live in is as blue it could get. My entire friend and co worker community is made up of mostly women who , still, after everything we have seen go down over the past 9 years, think that they are right about everything. They believe without question everything that comes out of the mouths of the MSNBC lineup. I asked them “good grief, aren’t you sick of listening to those propagandists yet”? Daily they make comments stating that every single Trump voter is a complete idiot. They talk like this at large social gatherings sometimes including people who they don’t know very well with zero knowledge of those people’s political views. They giggle and roll their eyes and pontificate about all kinds of stuff. The other night I was at a Halloween party with a bunch of my oldest friends and they were yammering all evening about these “stupid idiots ” as they call them. I rarely talk politics in social settings because it would basically leave me friendless. I couldn’t take it anymore. I just said “do you ever just listen to yourselves? All these people, who you have never met, that you refer to as idiots….does that actually make any sense? Does it really sound plausible that these gigantic gatherings of tens of thousands of regular people at a Trump rally are all just idiots who are just too stupid know what is good for them? These arenas full of moms, dads, professionals of various types, veterans, police officers, school teachers, essential workers of all varieties… they are all just big losers as you refer to them? One thing you might want to consider…. Having a conversation with, reading the words of, listening to an interview with people who don’t already see things your way”. Then I got up and walked out and drove home.

I can totally relate as I, just as so many, was a hard working Demo party member for several decades, didn’t see the light until about 2 years ago. Tucker was spot on. It is remarkable how well he has evolved over the years. God bless him.

It is likewise remarkable how the left, or whatever we are calling them now, fails to see the appeal of DJT. Michael Moore explained it rather well back in 2016. None of them, including Moore, listened. And the appeal is far deeper and stronger now after Americans got a taste of what America ruled by the psychopaths in Mordor on the Potomac is like. Thankfully, most of us are rejecting it.

Liberty now and forever more.

I get the impression that RFK believes reform of the federal agencies is possible. I don't. I think they need to be disbanded entirely, especially any agency that is repugnant to the Constitution; or any agency that was forced upon the American people without consent or even proper deliberation. That would remove about 80% of them. Good riddance.

James David's avatar

He's naive that way... But then again he believes in global warming so he is generally gullible. But as some would say his heart is in the right place.

If you don't have the full list / timeline for Federal agencies look it up.

Some agencies are clearly implied in the constitution, which is a framework. Declare war and make peace implies a war department; coin money a treasury.

The stuff that made sense was added early. The first maybe was USDA, circa 1860. Everything after that was a response to a war or a crisis. And as it went on it made less sense.

But it's not a "left" thing. Nixon vastly expanded the administrative state. Everybody has peed on this fireplug.

Bill Pieper's avatar

The default reaction for RFK and his ilk always seems to be more government, not less. When it is government creating the problems in the first place, which is most often the case, giving them more power and money does not seem to be the best prescription.

Tulsi seems to be coming around to this conclusion though. She used to be very hostile to 2A. She has softened her position quite a bit I think.
