At first, I was appalled. Kammy has been taking acting lessons, and is pretty damned talented. But I realized not long into it that she was doing far too much of it, was overacting exponentially for camera acting, and that because of those first two things, it was coming over as Mean Girl on PEDs. People who hadn't had much personal impression of her are probably not going to have found her likeable.
But I was disturbed by Trump. What the Hell is wrong with him? He shouldn't have been surprised by any aspect of it. Why couldn't he relax and in a sense just lean into it? Kammy, with her supercilious smirks and other hamminess, could have been countered easily by a relaxed, quiet, wry, unrushed Trump.
What the hell? He was almost assassinated a few weeks ago and the media and the Democrats couldn't care less. They just double down on him, and this whole interview set-up was rigged against him unfairly. Give the man a break!
One read I had was Trump stayed within the same range of defense, boiling into agitated/angry, but still defense. He never really changed his demeanor. So that's consistency under fire. Yes, it's almost impossible to fight 3 to 1. Harris had the advantage with moderators and fluff questions as set up so she could try to make 3 pt hoop shots. The takeaway on her was that she was all over the place with facial expressions and that works with the people who already are cheering her on. The DNC got a tactical win, but they didn't have a strategic win. That's why they NEED a 2nd debate. Kamala did not reach the immediate day to day concerns of the undecided. If anything, she risked alienating them even more. And while the folks on the left are in a bubble. And why they also don't realize the tone Kamala used to go after Trump rallies actually risked her personally attacking the attendees. I don't think that perspective will resonant with supporters of Harris and DC politics. I also think they don't care. But that's their problem. they don't seem to understand -still to this day- how Trump resonates with the day to day concern of his working class and lower-middle-class voters. And why "Trump inherited 400 million dollars...." sounds like a zinger to the tone-deaf flat-footed partisan. but it's not. Harris et al are just blind to this reality and can't see it for what it is. lol. anyway. it's her problem now to reach the undecided and they appear to break away from the current incumbent --aka the problem to immediate suffering. Harris can't risk admitting her policies are the cause, and no matter how much she knuckles down on promising future solutions to the symptoms she's responsible for-- and because she's also blind to it--she will never be able address it directly with the solutions she offers. lol
I hoped for a measure of grace from Trump in his final statement, a candid expression of thanks that it is only by an inch or so that he is still alive, and how that gave him a renewed and even deeper appreciation for his family, and for the country and its people. This as part of a larger vision of what, exactly, will it mean to Make America Great Again. I have seen glimpses of this from Trump in recent interviews he has done, but it was not there tonight.
My sense is that the enormous strain and relentless attacks (including attempted assassination) that Trump has endured, is taking its toll. It showed tonight.
And yet he’s still standing. No other candidate, few if any other human beings, could survive intact what the man has been put through. I’m not a Trump acolyte but I can understand why some are.
That was the impression I got as well. He was weak and kind of pathetic. It was shocking to see him taking ridiculous hits from the trollop. The last remarks were his chance to shine and he couldn't even muster...very very sad. But I will still vote for him.
Would you debate him, lol.? Everyone has an off day/night. He is the strongest man I know without a doubt. Like him or not, he has withstood unreal events and still is able to go on. I would have left this bs long ago and let people pay the price for their stupidity. Sad part is though, we all pay the price and it's not good.
Given a once in a lifetime opportunity to go down in history for creating The Most Boring Debate in History, I would leap at the chance. The entire night would consist of nothing but waves of "Me Too!" lovingly washing over each other.
That was to be expected. He should have been bettered prepared. A missed opportunity. He allowed himself to be baited on too many occasions. His lack of self control is maddening. I so often feel I want him to win more than he does.
I do not believe he mentioned mass deportation. He needs to repeatedly assure the American people he is committed to mass deportation or it will hurt his chances.
I think that is just about the only thing he wanted to talk about, rather like a fire and brimstone preacher. He wins on immigration, it's like which way will Oklahoma go? Respectfully, talk more about the economy.
Megyn Kelly said the CEO of ABC News is Harris’s longtime friend. I bet Harris got the questions ahead of time and the order went out from the CEO to help Harris. 3 against 1.
Think maybe a lot of people, myself included, were lulled into forgetting how bad the MSM (hate that term) could be, by their performance during the first debate with Bidden. This so-called “debate” was the most disgusting thing I’ve seen in a very long time.
The only way for Trump to win that game was not to play. That wasn't a debate, that was a Harris infomercial. I was undecided before - I actually liked neither and was supporting Kennedy. OK, the importance of this - if it has any at all - is to see how both act and react under pressure. We’re finding out how Trump handles pressure - but in letting Kamala off the hook - and tossing softball questions - we don’t find that out about Kamala. When she starts floundering, the “moderator” steps in. And as we go along, the “moderator” spins out a demonstrably false narrative and sets up talking points for Harris, for example on the run-up to the Ukraine War in 2022, and at this point, I wonder whether the “moderator” has rehearsed this narrative and these talking points with the Harris campaign prior to this debate show. That isn’t going to happen with Putin or Xi - or Orban or Maduro or Hamas - there’s no Hail Mary or “moderator” there to save Kamala and us, it’s the Man In The Arena - and she ain’t him, and with luck, won’t be him. And Trump is the only one actually arguing here - Kamala is just recycling canned talking points. And this - If no notes were allowed, then what was Kamala constantly looking down at? So at this point, I'm strongly leaning Trump, he's up against a 3 to 1 match and he doesn't fold, he doesn't blow up, and he sticks to his talking points. What I really want to see is a debate where *both* sides get questioned - and cross-examined - by the likes of someone like Dana Bash on that CNN interview - and the followup questions get asked. That would be useful to see, but I doubt if any American media are quite up to it.
Steam47--so, as an RFK fan, your major takeaway is that the obviously biased debate moderators let Kamala off the hook on pretty much everything, and conversely, crucified Trump at every turn, and that the whole thing was basically unfair, and this fact overshadows whatever weaknesses Trump had in his presentation. Is that fair to say? Interesting.
Ernest Hemingway once said that "courage is grace under pressure." There was no way to tell if Harris had it or not, because the "moderators" ran interference for her, and bailed her out when she was floundering. The far more revealing encounter was the Dana Bash interview on CNN. If Bash had done this debate, it would be far more useful. As it was, it was Trump who came out on top - he got ganged up on, and didn't lose his cool. That's the kind of person I could vote for - rather than someone who had to have others run interference for and bail out. Trump's actions after his attempted assassination are in the same vein - he thought it very important to reassure his followers that he was OK. If he had not done so, that could have set off civil conflict... So on two occasions, he reacted as I'd want a President to react. I strongly disagree with Ukraine being forced into a "peace" deal, but the weak and feckless support by the Biden Administration for Ukraine has unnecessarily prolonged the war at the cost of tens of thousands of lives, so there's that, too...
SHE WAS looking down at notes or something fishy. She is a fraud and a scammer. Always has been. The dumb things she said to try to insult him was just stupidity and high school-ish.
This is a far more useful comment on the debate than most of what I’ve read so far. People want “their” candidate to score points, as if this were a fencing match, but what undecided voters really care about is the way of being, conviction, mental toughness, and probably dozens of other intangible qualities to help them answer the question: “Which of these two people do I want in the office?” It’s far more complex than most people believe.
It's all so drearily predictable. I figured Kamala would do decently enough, the "moderators" would fully back her up, and Trump would do pretty well given the circumstances but not able to deliver a knockout as he did with Biden.
That all being the case, the Kamala supporters would say she did better while the Trump supporters would say the same about him. People's minds are already made up. It's all theater and the polls are all manipulated and don't mean much.
I believe the polls are real. The New York Times sets the narrative for the msm nation wide and there are many people nation wide who get their information from the msm and believe what they are told. In effect then, this means that we lack a common reality with a great many of our “fellow Americans.” This is an impossible situation. This does not bode well for our future which is already upon us.
There seem to be some bandwagon polls out there. (Morning Consult comes to mind.) But most of the polls are serious. Often with a methodological bias (Rasmussen). But serious.
Hilarious. And when cats get pissed off, they certainly make their displeasure known.
I suppose Trump's raising the matter could be not just an airing of the outrages of illegal immigrants, but also a subtle pitch for the votes of childless cat ladies.
Unfortunately he took the bait. He should have asked Kamala about the woman in Georgia murdered, or any of a dozen similar stories. But he is fighting 3 people, so, I don’t fault him.
No minds were changed. I think Trump wins regardless because people base votes on their own life situation, not debates.
Megyn Kelly had an outstanding “post debate” observation that most will agree with. The moderators were atrocious. If you haven’t seen it, it’s worth a watch.
**Warning your blood pressure may exceed a normal healthy range. **
Check out the 12:15 min point in this 19 min “Meet the Press” interview with JD Vance. They start arguing about illegal immigration. Vance says there are 25 million illegals in the country. The reporter says according to the DHS it’s closer to 8 million. According to a 2018 Yale Study the actual number was about 22 million, double the 11 million the media had used for decades. If you add the 10 million since the democrats opened the southern border 3.5 years ago we come up with at least 32 million. The fact that so many of our “fellow Americans” consider it racist to have borders and will fight to keep these people here means that we’ve simply lost the ability to be a country. No borders means no country. No country means chaos, collapse and civil war. No country is the road to hell. This is an impossible situation.
“JD Vance denies that Trump’s tariffs would be a tax on Americans.” (19 min)
...and those 'fellow Americans' who say an anti-immigration stance is racist....they have no critical thinking skills. They let the media tell them what to think, social or MSMedia.
We think the MarxistDem party is our enemy. The leftist propaganda media is our 1st enemy.
In the short run, it probably will run up prices. Easy enough to offset this with tax rebates since it will also increase Federal revenue. In the medium to long run, they will change trade patterns by affecting consumption patterns and encouraging on-shoring of production which should increase employment and wages. The wage effect would be enhanced by removing the illegals.
There would of course be winners and losers as there are in any tax proposal. In the runup to CW1 tariffs were a huge issue, second only to slavery. Most Federal revenue at that time was tariffs which fell disproportionally on the South since they imported many consumption goods. The North was advantaged since the tariffs protected Northern industry from foreign competition and allowed higher prices and more employment. The South not only had to pay more for foreign goods but for Northern products. In a modern context the winners would be domestic manufacturing locating mostly in Red States or red portions of blue states. The losers would be big cities which have killed their manufacturing base and turned into centers for law and finance plus amusement parks for childless cat ladies and their consorts.
He didn’t have a chance with 3 on 1. Even 1440 reported this morning that he was the only one fact checked in the debate. She had 3 untrue comments in one statement and they said nothing. He should not agree to debate under those circumstances again if he debates her again.
Lionel (Nation) was happy with the debate. I agree with his take. It was obvious she had the questions in advance, and most people see through it. People analyzing it are seeing it through the eyes of media elites and political junkies. Most Americans are completely disconnected from that world.
Her fake poll numbers will stay the same. The real numbers will be seen by the party elites. They will go further into damage control mode in order to salvage their congressional seats. Probably won't work though. Americans are done with these awful, smug DC psychopaths.
Megyn Kelly says her audience can’t understand how so many people can like Kamala and worry that she could win. Bret Weinstein says they’re New York Times readers and believe what they see there. The NYT though sets the narrative for the msm nation-wide so that gives them many supporters plus the fact that human nature is unstable and highly susceptible to mania’s like Woke which sweep through a society like a medieval plague driving people infected insane rather than killing them. I see no way we can recover from this so my hope is that AI will save us. It is quite amazing and can easily be a game changer for all of humanity.
“Megyn Kelly Relays What She Keeps Hearing From Her Audience, Worried About Kamala Harris Winning.” (1 min)
the media is yes, mostly in the tank. More election interference will follow. but it's tied now, so it is still who shows up and actually votes. If more Swifties....?
I want to know why any of this is actually being allowed to happen? This woman was not selected by any of the American people to run for office...not even the VP position, she was selected. She was emphatically rejected by the People during that election and was the first to drop out. This is a banana republic, they are going to steal the election again, and everyone's going to be surprised!
They are doctoring photos and videos, using AI to make it look like huge crowds are showing up for her! They will steal the election just as handily as 2020, and then what? No one is standing up against this now, when our voices might be heard, after CommieKamala is in office it will be too late. DoJ is already planning to strip us of our rights if we argue the results...can anyone say Unconstitutional? Makes no difference they do what they want and no one stops them, ever. Not now and Trump didn't either. We are in for a rude awakening.
I've had some time to think about the debate (though I hate calling that event a real debate). I think that the vast majority of people that watched it have made up their minds about who they are voting for and wanted to watch their "team" play. For those people the debate changed no votes. Most of the undecideds get their information on X, Tictock, Facebook, or a web browser. That information will say Trump lost the debate and the debate was basically 3 vs 1. I don't see how that helps Harris at all. The other issue is the Haitian (illegal immigration) issue. Trump brought it out (of course got it wrong about dogs) but it is part of the discussion about how 20,000 Haitians moved to an American town of 60,000 and impacted those people. That is not a discussion the Democratic Party wants to have so in a strange way Trump actually might benefit from his very poor performance. The immigration issue is resonating with voters and if I were advising Trump I'd tell him to put ads out about how it is impacting rents in those locations. People (especially young working people) are really getting pissed off about how high their rents are. Just ask any renter and you'll find it's their #1 concern.
Reading the comments on BostonGlobe.com the are gushing over Kamala. The world could be burning if the media and Democrat told liberals it's sunny and gorgeous out they would believe it.
At first, I was appalled. Kammy has been taking acting lessons, and is pretty damned talented. But I realized not long into it that she was doing far too much of it, was overacting exponentially for camera acting, and that because of those first two things, it was coming over as Mean Girl on PEDs. Spot on with both points, Bobby.

yeah, he has been given the charisma points, we've been through that topic already..
That was the impression I got as well. He was weak and kind of pathetic. It was shocking to see him taking ridiculous hits from the trollop. The last remarks were his chance to shine and he couldn't even muster...very very sad. But I will still vote for him.
It's easy to understand why he would have bad PTSD. The fact that he's kept going is as strong a statement of character of some kind as I can imagine.
Kamala first half, was as I expected, pretty inept; but she was better the second half. Which part did the undecideds watch?
Undecideds? All six of them?
Maybe he has taken another step down Senility Road.
Would you debate him, lol.? Everyone has an off day/night. He is the strongest man I know without a doubt. Like him or not, he has withstood unreal events and still is able to go on. Mat - you any relation to Sam Peckinpah?
He is lazy.
Some people can prepare, and memorize, and act.
Some people can execute.
We know Trump can lead this country, we still remember.
And we know she can lie and act .
None of which matters, if it gets her across the finish line.
What a stupid thing to say. With all of the interviews he's been doing and cpaign stops?
He didn't prep.
Go away, that is ridiculous. And feral.
Exactly!

It was like a fake, and then a left hook.
💥BOOM💥
Of course. So what does Trump propose to do about it? Crying "no fair!" won't help.
The only way for Trump to win that game was not to play. That wasn't a debate, that was a Harris infomercial. I was undecided before - I actually liked neither and was supporting Kennedy. This is a far more useful comment on the debate than most of what I’ve read so far. People want “their” candidate to score points, as if this were a fencing match, but what undecided voters really care about is the way of being, conviction, mental toughness, and probably dozens of other intangible qualities to help them answer the question: “Which of these two people do I want in the office?” It’s far more complex than most people believe.
....I hope your right Nathan. I am hearing the young crowd wants a 'brat summer' candidate.....but they are not as prone to actually vote.
Solid analysis that will never, ever be found on any MSM or legacy media outlet.
It's all so drearily predictable. I figured Kamala would do decently enough, the "moderators" would fully back her up, and Trump would do pretty well given the circumstances but not able to deliver a knockout as he did with Biden.

These are root for the home team events
I agree, people’s minds (such as they are) have been made up for weeks. Calls into question the need for millions in campaign donations. Hmmmm
They did not poll any pets though. The pet vote, especially cats, have recently swung heavily in favor of Trump.

agree on it's who shows up at the polls, because it's still even this a.m.

The answer is election fraud.
the media is yes, mostly in the tank. More election interference will follow. but it's tied now, so it is still who shows up and actually votes. If more Swifties....?
Harris gets the nominations by not getting a single democrat vote.
Goes to a powderpuff CNN interview .
Has two strong ABC allies helping her out through out the “debate .”
Let’s hope honest Americans do not support cheating and unfairness in the voting booth.
Good thing Trump set the record straight on crowd size.
ha ha. clever...
Because of Trump's weakness to resist being baited, I would recommend no more debates.
I think there may be lots of suburbanites suddenly realizing that 20,000 Haitians could be settled in their safe, quiet towns too.
Reading the comments on BostonGlobe.com the are gushing over Kamala. The world could be burning if the media and Democrat told liberals it's sunny and gorgeous out they would believe it.
most of these blue team yea things were mostly pre-written on a macro-template before, like orbituary files.
Just like GOP did in 2008
