Sasha, Eric Adams does not have a chance for reelection. His reputation is legendary in two qualities: corruption and partying. As an incumbent he has nothing to point to in the accomplishment category. Even he knew he didn’t stand a chance in the dem primary. He’s broke and needs a job. Now the Trump admin is talking about appointing him to an admin position. Who knows, maybe ambassador to Jamaica? I’ve heard a rumor about a job for Sliva too. Unsubstantiated, but whatever. That would leave Cuomo, the world class narcissist who was already run out of the governor’s office and Mamdani. After 30 years, I’m planning on leaving NYC next year for a red state somewhere.

All the drop in deaths from those diseases ocurred due to hygene improvement and better treatment. The vaccines were introduced after the curve came all the way down. I was shocked when I learned that, but that’s a fact.

Matt L.'s avatar

You are correct Kurt. Before the world was clean and sanitized, the young encountered all kinds of viruses (that we now have vaccines for) and those young of the past overcame those diseases and developed natural immunities. Then the world got really clean (and thank god it did). And over time the youth was no longer exposed to these diseases on the regular (and they didn’t develop natural immunity). This is why polio had its spike in the mid 20th century. After the world had been clean for a while…And why it took over 20 years to eradicate it in the USA (took until 1979), following 1955 polio vax introduction. Vaccines are the result of a dirty world getting cleaner.

That said, the amount of vaccines now is way too much, thanks to Big Pharma. And we need to dial it back. No need for covid 19 vax (which is really only a therapeutic) and no need to give infants or young, Hep B, just to name 2 of the unnecessary.

Orenv's avatar

Also migration from places where diseases are endemic presents new vectors.

DDALEX20's avatar

My dad born in 1918, said polio was the result of the rise in indoor toilets. Prior to that, early and often exposure to the virus resulted from contact with flies generating herd immunity. A similar case has been attributed to peanut allergy. Early exposure to peanuts results in less allergy development.

Matt L.'s avatar

The most hard leaning anti vax folks think polio was caused by environmental factors and not a virus. Specifically they think it’s DDT and other pesticides that use arsenic. I see correlation between 20th century polio spikes and rise in pesticides. But I don’t think it’s the cause.

DDALEX20's avatar

That, of course, is nonsensical, since wide use of vaccines obliterated polio in our country. I remember getting the three separate doses on sugar cubes when I was a very small child.

Matt L.'s avatar

I agree it’s a false belief, but it’s out there. I was pleased to see Trump push back on Florida last Friday on this subject:

Mike Perceval's avatar

May I suggest Florida? It’s a big State in more ways than one; I’m sure you can find a niche.

Kurt's avatar

You know, I hear many good reports out of Florida. Thank you

Matt L.'s avatar

I heard Florida is going to remove all mandates on all vaccines, even polio. At least they didn’t announce any carve outs. That’s a bit too far out there for me. Hope Florida come back to their senses when it comes to the core vaccines (polio, measles, tetanus).

Great discussion without pointing fingers - just plain analysis and I enjoyed that. I will say that your discussion on the road to socialism and progressivism is reminiscent of the history of Trotsky and Lenin in the early years of the Russian revolution. Which was then hijacked by even more radical leftists. That’s the danger I see here with Mamdani. Like the Russian Revolution it was a minority of intelligent intellectuals that could talk the talk but then walked a different walk.

The experts on the left are deluding themselves. The narratives are so tired and uninspiring and quite frankly, fit the misinformation mania they seem to be clinging to. They are tripling down and have yet to present any solutions to and for the American people.

The younger generations have been indoctrinated in school. For the most part, young people buy in to the lies.

Not only the schools. It starts in the schools then you have the added bonus of the mainstream media. There's no wonder where we are after decades of garbage education system + mainstream media lies.

"Capitalism has raised more people out of poverty than any other system in the history of the world. It has created more innovation and socialism has failed everywhere throughout the United States of America. Zoran Mamani and every other democ other democratic socialist should create their own party because I don't want that in my party. I believe in free enterprise. I believe in democracy. I believe in the dem democratic ideals."

Reality Seeker's avatar

I used to be a Democrat. I had to leave because their policies failed over and over again and even made things worse. For example the Great Society welfare policies that doomed the black community. (Johnson said blacks would be Dems for 200 years because we were taking care of them.)

I am still the same bleeding heart traditional liberal I was then but believe that (as flawed as it is) the values of the republicans would help the most people. Remember, the Republicans do believe in a government safety net and private charity for those who actually need it. We do not hate the poor, disabled, or minorities as the Left claims.

Stuck with two parties. Dennis Prager says a big part of the problem is that traditional liberals still vote for the Democrats. The Democrat party is the party of the Left. If you want proof, just look how the "moderate Democrats" vote in Congress. They vote along party lines.

I’m thinking that a “fourth turning” might be something that you can only experience in retrospect, unless it’s something obvious, like a world war. If you take the beginning of WW-2, as the start of the last 4/T, we are past due, even if you take the start of Covid as a start of a 4/T, which I, in retrospect think it was, that put us about 5 years into the first twenty year sub-cycle.

Our crisis hasn’t been as bad as a war, but another 4-8 years of Bidden-Harris could have sunk us in a real morass: DEI / ESG / WEF / WHO / war with Russia / hyper-inflation / racial unrest / sexual mutilation of kids / overloaded electrical grids / massive, unvetted immigration / another man-made bogus epidemic / unaffordable mortgages / Housing shortages / uncontrolled teachers unions / EU-style censorship / CBDC / ever-increasing autism / $Billions & Billions in corruption / $Trillions in waste / lots of violent crime / a partisan, two-tier, legal system / constant surveillance of what we do & where we are / managed elections / gun seizures / media lies & outright propaganda. That morass could have been, in the long run, worse than a war. When a war is over, it’s over. 18 years after WW2, I was in Germany, life was pretty normal. If we had fallen into a great morass, there would have been an undertow. I feel like we all dodged a bullet. We were on the cusp.

Matt L.'s avatar

My question that remains unanswered (and perhaps unknown) is the impact of so many countries now holding the atom bomb, on a new 4th Turning. Is the next big bloodletting without use of nukes, or with it. Whether it be a Civil or External Big War?

Mamdani is an islamo-communist funded by Qatar(his mother admits this). He will win this fall and NYC will be London in 10 years or less. He makes Obama look clumsy and that is a statement. Obama era Millennials are the death of us. They are thieves.

Matt L.'s avatar

NYC doesn’t control immigration, so no, I don’t see NYC going that direction. NYC can sink further, but not necessarily that way.

Danimal28's avatar

You're wrong; they are the nations #2 sanctuary city, buddy. After ChiTown.

Matt L.'s avatar

Well if 10% of NYC can implement Sharia law over the entire Big Apple then more power to them. I don’t see many new Muslims getting into the country anytime soon. We also have 2A 👍🏽

By what metric is Trump pushing anything to the right? His policies are not too far from what Obama ran on. Obama ended up being the third and fourth term of the Shrub Bush presidency. The lie of free money dominated everything. Trump will not be outspent. He's, functionally, more socialist than Bernie, because Bernie would never get the votes for, let's say, a five trillion dollar open ended lockdown.

Trump seems extreme right because he reveals all of the hypocrisy and lies of the left. Trump is the great revealer. Calling Trump extreme and/or evil is just projection. If Trump is a stable genius centrist, then the US left is a fascist monster.

President Trump’s cuts taxes for low-income people via his Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) of 2017 and subsequent legislation.

He nearly doubled the standard tax deduction reducing taxable income for low-income households.

He also doubled the child tax credit benefiting families with little or no income tax liability.

He expanded the income range which had the lowest tax rate of 10%.

"No Tax on Tips" Provision exempted tips from federal income taxes for many service industry workers, providing direct relief to those reliant on tipped income.

He eliminated tax on SS benefits especially helping lower income beneficiaries.

You said “no meaningful cuts low income taxes was given to the poor just the middle class.”

I replied by saying if they are that low income they do not pay income taxes.

And you come back with “Pretty much you dont pay much until you hit 50K that means you have to make more than 23 an hr (around 24).”

So you are agreeing with me.

President Trump actually started to close the income gap: poor people/working class people made more money, period, and more money compared to wealthy people 2017-2020. The income gap exploded under Obama and more than doubled under Biden. Regulations are a tax, usually on the poor. Inflation is the most regressive tax known to mankind. Inflation kills poor people. Millions could not afford food, or gas, or to send their kids to a decent school.

They are gaslighting you. Please look at all the data since Shrub Bush (who I consider Obama's Swamp mentor).

The poor should be provided free government photo ID’s that identify them by name and address saying they are poor to exempt them from sales tax on certain necessary items. Non-critical items such as soft drinks, ice cream, pizza, McDonalds, Popeyes, cakes, beer, candy bars, toys, cigarettes, cookies, chips, tats, pet food, cannabis, etc. would remain to be taxed. Require validation of them remaining poor every quarter. Then that ID can be required to vote.

Free Will's avatar

If the goal is to help the poor, sales taxes are all regressive (synthetic inflation). How does everyone feel about Al Gore's only good idea ever: replace the income tax, sales tax and property tax with a carbon tax? Carbon taxes are dumb, fine, but it's a very low bar: income, buying food, and personal assets are all highly taxed good things that most people want or need to do.

Your family story is anecdotal. My son is a submarine officer. Two members out of twenty in their boardroom are Jewish

Your hatred of Zionism would be boring were it not so concerning on a spiritual level. You are very into religious ritual (Mass and Rosary almost every day) but you ignore the basic love of God for Israel which is all over Scripture.

Libertarian's avatar

Hi Susan, I hate genocide and feel compelled to condemn it; I don’t hate Jews or Israel. I do hate what Israelis are doing to Palestinians by slaughtering them though. I pray for peace; not for more bloodshed on either side.

Susan Vonder Heide's avatar

Warning them in advance to leave certain areas is not "slaughtering". And a defensive war is not "genocide." Learn more about the events of October 7, 2023 and you will be less inclined to throw around such terms for Israel's just response.

Libertarian's avatar

We fundamentally disagree but I doubt anything I can say will make you see the truth. It’s a similar phenomenon with TDS where people can’t let facts convince them that they might be incorrect. And I don’t doubt you think the same of me. For my part, I have researched it thoroughly and am confident in my conclusions.

Susan Vonder Heide's avatar

If you have researched it and come to your conclusions, you are obviously not accessing reliable sources but propaganda sources (or sources from those who have themselves been deceived by propaganda of whom there are many). I suggest that you broaden your research.

Enjoyed the discussion very much, but found myself repeatedly considering the many respects in which Biblical Eschatology (End Times Prophecy) sheds light on the issues and concerns discussed. It’s a ‘big’ and controversial subject, and one that is often harmed by its well-meaning but mis-or ill-informed friends. So I’ll leave that alone for now.

As for Trump and his uniquely phenomenal ability to enrage ‘the hive’, I suggest it would be apt to view him, metaphorically, as a human ‘flocculant’; an agent dropped into the murky suspension of societal darkness and light, which provokes a separation by which what is hidden becomes manifest.

And, as far as I am concerned, the same thing holds for Israel, and the Chosen People. They serve as God’s ‘flocculant’, provoking a response that reveals many things, whether in regard to individuals, groups, or nations.

May the Lord richly bless you both, guide, protect, and make you fruitful in His service.

Am Israel Chai!

When he says that about the person from high school? I know exactly what he's talking about. To be blunt, it's kind of like the white people elevating these people, especially black people, to power positions, choose the most unqualified, inept, idiotic people they can find. I think it's evil. They aren't elevating anyone who might take their job or their friends jobs. They elevate safe poc. And, because of that, they end up making DEI candidates look like morons. It's like hiring a literal 🛡. That's all they mean for them to be. And that is so much worse than any racism charge lodged against MAGA.
