Best of luck to Ukraine and the EU. You guys go ahead.

This is a great day for the American taxpayers (remember them?).

Alexander Petrenko's avatar

Americans, Canadians (like myself), even the regular working ppl of the EU....we've ALL gotten tired of footing the bill for Zelensky the Cokehead. It's funny seeing certain Euro leaders like Comrade Starmer cos-play as someone competent, but it's only fun-as-theatre. They have no hope of winning againist Russia, none. And that's good news because this conflict hopefully will be over sooner rather than later regardless of Zelensky's temper tantrums.

Ashby McDonald's avatar

Trump warned European nations 8 years ago they need to start spending on defense. Some countries heeded the warning, others will wish they had.

If Europe goes to war with Russia, I will still be rooting for Europe. I will tell them that if there is anything I can SAY that will help, let me know.

But I am so sick and tired of Europeans telling us how awful we are for not providing universal health care (which is mostly a lie), all the while enjoying the defensive umbrella we provide.

Matt L.'s avatar

Apparently Zelensky is still scheduled to interview w/ Brett Baier (FOX) at 6pm EST today. Z has already sent out a social media post thanking the US and Trump administration over and over. Ought to be an interesting interview.

Trump administration trots out Lindsey Graham in front of cameras to say Z must now resign. Poor spokesman. Never forget Lindsey proudly wore the Ukraine pin on his lapel under Biden. He is a Uniparty chameleon who needs to go back to the swamp of South Carolina.

Indeed; Brits army is 70,000, Canada 29,000. Lololol. Russia would eat them for breakfast and still be hungry.

Tom Potts's avatar

Ukraine has the largest army in Eastern Europe, except for Russia, which is the center of the Eastern Orthodox Church today. American people need to add the spiritual dimension to world affairs. Russia has more in common with western countries than Islam. We have nothing in common with Islamic nations. Any of them. Think more deeply Americans. Yes, Putin is a monster. He does not define Russia. We also have monsters, the LGBTQ freaks, and war mongers, and socialists. Same thing. Different day.

Who rescued the Kievan Rus nations from the Mongols , the Golden Hordes, after 250 years of oppression? The Polish and Lithuanians and the Muscovy peoples. The exact same people involved with Russian wars today. In the current conflicts.

Frederick Roth's avatar

There's like 700k Ukrainian draftable men living in EU right now. Instead of sending UK troops maybe they should flush out the shirkers first.

Marilyn's avatar

"Z the cokehead"....I noticed he kept sniffing during this interview...and I wondered about that. I gave him the benefit of the doubt because he's been in sinus agitators like airplanes, and in a different country now, etc. But since you mentioned that....???

Libertarian's avatar

His big act as a comedian was to play a piano with us dick. Really. That’s their guy.

Tom Potts's avatar

Please sir, keep it above the belt.

Richard's avatar

He would play Hava Neglia with his dick. Some Jew.

Tom Potts's avatar

Please sir, knock off the anti-Semitic comments. Jews are like any other group. Some good, most normal. A few evil. Like every other group.

Richard's avatar

Dude, I am philoSemitic but as you say there are evil Jews and Z-man is one of them.

Tom Potts's avatar

Zelensky should have Trump’s profile now. Showing up in a tee shirt and blue jeans was very disrespectful to our nation . He ain’t Steve Jobs, former American citizen. Now deceased.

R H's avatar

Maybe he found some more of Hunter's cocaine in the Whitehouse?

I hope you're right and we don't have war in Europe. Thanks to liars and chancers like Starmer, on top of traditional European arrogance, "we" - corrupt Europe - deserve what is about to be served up, but many of us have been against this stupid proxy war from the start and, indeed, against all the neocon meddling in sovereign states hitherto slavishly supported by European leaders, including Madame von Death herself. Trump could do us all a favour by turning off the tap/faucet that Europe has taken for granted.

Libertarian's avatar

Four of my brothers and I served in the US military and I’ll be damned if I want my sons and nephews to go get shot to hell in the Ukraine or Iran for the neocons.

Owain Glyndŵr's avatar

Or my grandsons.

Trump at least, is adamant, no US boots on soil in the Ukraine. More, I think he will pull back all aid.

NATO will either step up, stupidly, or not.

The would be napolean isn't an equal among equals. He was schooled today and didn't like it. Too bad. The options are limited for this little dic-tater.

Libertarian's avatar

It’s a killing field and their lives are just so wasted for the neocon wars.

Tom Potts's avatar

NATO is a cruel joke. It is only the USA in reality. None of the Euros nor Canadians will fight, die, send their boys home in body bags, nor pay for, nor make enough weapons and munitions to beat anyone other than themselves in actual war. The largest standing Army in NATO Europe is Turkye. Their goal is to reconstruct the Ottomon Caliphate. They partner with Russia today. Zeig Heil Germany, Allahu Ackbar Deutschland. Wake up, or put the burquas on your girls and wives. My father lived in Dah H’ran, Saudi Arabia for ten years. My mom lived there for 3-4 years. Hell for western women. Woke up from your stupid, double quick now.

Me and my lovely wife visited Istanbul and Ephesus last October. They have optimism in Turkye. They are preparing for the new Ottoman Caliphate. Erdogan is like Putin, Trump, and Xi. A player in world history .

Europe is extremely weak now…. Ripe for conquest now…..

An independent observer's avatar

These dangers are not mutually excluded. But somehow to me, as to a former refugee from the USSR, dangers of Putin’s politics, who has basically transformed himself into Stalin 2.0., are painfully familiar.

Tom Potts's avatar

Welcome to the USA. Putin is how old? Younger than Trump? Angela Merkel was a Stasi agent in Berlin at the same time Putin was the same for the KGB. Where does Merkel live now? Just curious.

An independent observer's avatar

Napoleon marched across Europe as a conqueror. Ukraine is defending its land against Russian invasion. Z is short. But he is no Napoleon. I am afraid everyone will understand with time how they underestimated the dangers of Putin’s ambitions and goals. It may be too late though.

Libertarian's avatar

Perhaps, we clearly underestimated the dangers Bush, Obama and Biden hoisted upon us.

Tom Potts's avatar

Barbarossa Version 2 will go much worse for Germany. 90 years ago, the Wehrmacht was an extremely good fighting force. They couldn’t beat old man winter. Germany is a joke now, socialism destroys peoples. Completely. Both Russia and China have hypersonic missiles now. Europe has none. Neither does the USA to any level. Russia and CCP China are not communist anymore. They are exactly the same as the World Economic Forum. A blend of socialism, communism, and fascism. America stands alone today. Constitutional Republic with Bill of Rights, enforced by our 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution.

Europe is ripe for conquest now. Pick you enemy Euros. Mother Russia, or CCP China, or Islam, you are screwed anyway at all you can think of.

Zelensky needs to take a basic negotiation class. UKR needs the US, US doesn't need UKR. Therefore, he's in no position to dictate terms or lecture the US. If this was some attempt to manipulate Trump, this was a terrible idea. All he has done is weaken UKR even more.

Mark R.'s avatar

He should well start with reading Trump’s Art of The Deal

Tom Potts's avatar

Dena's avatar

Don’t forget Z didn’t allow elections & his term expired. That makes him a dictator. The reporting doesn’t seem to remember that.

Tutti's avatar

Plain-speaking from the U.S. has been sorely lacking for a very long time.

Matt L.'s avatar

Sure looks like Ukraine doesn’t get peace until Zelensky steps down as president. Another humiliation for our neocon class. Trump last week calling Z a dictator and having only 4% of popular Ukraine people support -- were the populist tea leaves provided but not read. At some point Ukraine, the EU and those still living in The Long Twentieth Century will come to accept that we are serious about ending both this war, and ‘continual wars’ that have been a feature since close of WW2. Just not today.

The odds on Z moving to Zurich or Paris by mid March, just went up.

Marilyn's avatar

Of course, OBiden war hawk admin kept saying GO! GO! GO! and giving him billions. Now he is hearing NO NO NO. Zelenskyy says "ask my people" if they want a cease fire, I wonder has he asked them?? He refuses to hold an election, so how would he know?

Libertarian's avatar

I wouldn’t want to be on his flight back.

Matt L.'s avatar

Zelensky stated in interview with FOX tonight that he will step down as president if Ukraine is given entry into NATO. If he sticks to his guns on this, then he will likely be assassinated or otherwise, deposed.

Jane in Michigan's avatar

Oh, just brilliant. Poke a stick in Putin's eye by insisting on joining NATO. All that sort of talk is in part what led to this war.

An independent observer's avatar

Matt, do you mind sharing the source of 4% popular support for Zelenskyy? I have seen different statistics. 60-70% is more likely. Of course, it may turn south after today’s fiasco. Or the other way? Hard to predict.

https://www.brusselstimes.com/1382476/ukraine-president-zelenskyys-popularity-took-a-dip-in-2024-poll-shows

Matt L.'s avatar

Hey Observer, I was referencing the rhetoric Trump stated [4% popular support], along w/calling Z a dictator. I don’t believe the 4% but I think DJT used it to try to undercut Z (perhaps trying to get Z to step down) and get to a peace deal, more quickly. Part of his overall negotiating and middle finger to the neocon class. As for actual Ukrainian support for Z, I think currently it’s unknowable. I would not trust any poll. Not trust because those in Crimea or the Donbas did not participate. Additionally, Ukraine was the largest country recipient of USAID funds in 2023, and would imagine that funding stayed very high in 2024, too. And that ‘aid’ is often for “CIA cutouts” that influence media to the approved, neocon narrative. And high popular support for Z can be pointed to as a signal to keep on w/ this terrible war. That’s my take anyway… Cheers -

Mark R.'s avatar

I really loved VP Vance’s trip to the woodshed with those pompous European Security Conference dweebs a week ago. Pitch perfect plain speaking there. And I adore his disruption of their rather comfortable status quo.

smartideas's avatar

DJT has had enough (JD too)! I, for one, thought it was epic and necessary for all of us to watch and hear. That little dictator doesn’t get to come to OUR country, in OUR house and disrespect OUR President and Vice President, as well as the rest of us Americans. Trump is not aligned with Putin. He wants the war to end. Full stop. Why is this so difficult for people to understand. Trump isn’t pro-war. He’s made that very clear.

Brian M's avatar

It was classic for Z to rail on Trump for the loss of Crimea, which was 110% on Obama during his watch as well as all those EU leaders. But Z thinks he can smear Trump with that? By someone from the other party whom Trump hates? Does anyone coach this little weasel or does he believe he is smarter than everyone else?

Jeff Keener's avatar

In 2014, the Crimean Status Referendum yielded a 97% vote to join the Russian federation with 83% voter turnout.

Brian M's avatar

Yes, I understand that. Same is true with the Donbas region. I am not arguing on behalf of Zelensky. Actually I am arguing against him

Jeff Keener's avatar

Understood. Just adding to your argument.

Matt L.'s avatar

Unknowable how much the Crimea vote was influenced/manipulated by Russia. It’s likely the majority voted to join Russia, Crimea is majority Russian speaking, and there were little green soldiers running around that region when the new vote was taken. 97% vote to join Russia though seems too high. Then again, I’m an outside observer.

Candis's avatar

Come on give Z a break, it was the cocaine talking.

Ashby McDonald's avatar

That can't be right. People way smarter than us told us if Trump is elected, war will break out everywhere. Have you learned nothing???

Little Zelenskyy doesn’t deserve any respect at this point. He is an unelected president in his country aka dictator. He shows up to our White House in sweats, T-shirts and work boots. Trump doesn’t need to kiss his ass. He’s here looking for more money and support. The bank is closed.

Why does Trump need to say it? It’s clear as water that Putin is a dictator in a communist country. Why on earth anyone defends that pos is beyond my comprehension. There have been over a million Ukrainians killed (Russians too). It needs to stop now. If you’re pro-war, then so be it. I am not.

I think one of Trump's more under-appreciated assets is that he completely unnerves all the right people. The intelligentsia. The genteel diplomats. The well-heeled elites. And of course, the old-line media, who consider themselves our bettors.

Zelensky now knows (if he didn't already ... and judging by his behavior he was somewhat clueless) that Trump doesn't give two effs about anything other than crafting a peaceful solution to this mess Biden handed him, and moving on. Message sent - now it's Zelensky's turn to work within that framework.

I have no argument against you and your family going over to join the combat and send your money instead of asking me and my family bro be cannon fodder and send our money. So what’s holding you back? They take any age now. Or are you wanting to send other people’s sons and their money?

Eric Gordon's avatar

I am more than "OK" with how Trump and Vance speak to Zelensky...I am ecstatic! It's exactly how he should be talked to. I don't measure who starts wars by who crosses the border 1st with arms. I measure who started the war by who actually provocated it...forcing Putin to defend by invading. Only a preschool child on a playground would assume that Putin just woke up one morning and decided to invade his neighbor for no reason whatsoever just because he is a mean awful no-goodnick.

If China convinced Mexico to join forces with them and proceeded to put nuclear weapons and military bases on our border we would do the same thing as Putin. Don't think for a second we would not.

The days of "they hate us for our freedom" are over. That is childish stuff and I am not sure it would even work on my child anymore...Time to grow up.

Obama, Biden, Harris, and Zelensky provoked Putin into this war and they are all responsible for over a million dead and counting in the bloodlands of Eastern Europe. This was all avoidable but now seeing the convicted felon and the hillbilly rip the celebrity Zelensky a new one on national TV...That is priceless and exactly what I voted for....

Why won't it? They charge $4,400 for each 155mm artillery shell they make, making money hand over fist.

Russian 152mm shells, meanwhile, cost $1,000 a piece.

I know it’s the gentlemanly thing to always offer to pay for dinner, but I’d think after the third or fourth date the woman has finally made up her mind, not just in for the free meal. I’d say throwing in for drinks or paying the tip to show some appreciation is eventually in order. It was never about how much it all cost, but treating a man as a complete fool is unconscionable.

MyOpinion's avatar

My last point. Trump was being blasted for holding that exchange openly. For me, it showed just how out of touch Zelensky is and what Trump has had to put up with him.

Zelensky is much like Newsom. He comes with his hand out for money and demands and then bites the hand of the person trying to help him.

If the "security guarantees/backstop" were so critical to Zelensky, knowing what Trump was willing to offer, Zelensky should have said so in any number of private moments before today's embroglio.
