The Democrats have nothing to offer except smears and insults. They're striving for a 10% public approval rating.

Owain Glyndŵr's avatar

Let's help them achieve said rating.

But they'll get away with it just as Harry Reid got away with defaming Mitt Romney. Here's why:

Article I, Section 6, Clause 1:

“...for any Speech or Debate in either House, [Senators and Representatives] shall not be questioned in any other Place.”

You can't sue them.

Hebrides' Eilidh NicDhòmhnaill's avatar

Today, their ratings went up even more than the stock markets and world sentiment to America tanked.

Matt's got a solid case. Maybe take a knee on this one, bud?

Did Matt smear anyone?

Sorry. Still not following. I'm on Sasha's stack. Yes, I read other conservative stacks and even some leftist sites, ok, browse the leftist sites. What does Sandmann vs CBS have to do with the thread?

Yeah, Taibbi can get vocal. Bongino, Bannon etc. So...

What does that have to do with a sitting congress critter (rep from CA) going after Taibbi on social media? Sure, as Taibbi noted on his stack:

"There is not much a person like me can say to a member of Congress hiding behind the protections of the Speech and Debate clause of the Constitution.

One can however respond to a member arrogant enough to repeat those claims on social media."

This sitting congress woman (I think it's a she) went beyond bounds, as a private citizen, perhaps even more so as a Congressional Representative.

That’s not an insult, it was an accusation. A very serious one

Owain Glyndŵr's avatar

Really trying to follow but...

Who is 'he', Taibbi?

What personal insults from, 'he' to who?

And again, what does this have to do with the lawsuit that Taibbi has filed?

Kathleen's avatar

Can you please give an example of MattTaibbi being anything other than honest and professional?

Jeff Keener's avatar

Waiting for your examples of that.

Owain Glyndŵr's avatar

Yeah, trying to understand that too.

GTFO yelled is not libel. Do you understand that? Also, Van Orden is not an alias for Taibbi.

Jeff Keener's avatar

Is Matt Taibbi AKA "Rep. Derrick Van Orden"? Anyway, that's not libel or slander.

Jen Koenig's avatar

Falsely accusing someone of sex crimes is not protected under free speech, and I suspect you know this. Slander is illegal and always has been. This seems like a clear cut case.

He has to prove potential. Per the law.

"Political shock jock" is the exact opposite of Matt Taibbi. You, sir, are quite likely a moron.

So, your side is reaping what they sow? That always happens. But I think even that is not true.

FlaMac's avatar

Examples please.

Barry Lederman, “normie”'s avatar

I listen to Matt and Walter Kirn and many times I agree with Walter calling out Matt for being too nice! Go Matt!

Earl Camembert's avatar

I'm not sure you want to make an enemy out of someone with the investigative chops of a Matt Taibbi. If Ms. Kamlager-Dove has any skeletons in her closet, they are rattling right now.

Dave F's avatar

Reason being— this cat will show up in person to get to the bottom of any situation— doesn’t get any more old school than that.

He speaks softly/yet carries a big stick(The Truth)

Tony in Tarpon Springs's avatar

Just $10m against this degenerate Democrat. Matt should make an example out of her and sue her into poverty and homelessness.

Ordinary American's avatar

It will take lawsuits like this to change the behaviors. I hope Matt wins. If he wins, America wins.

Jeff Keener's avatar

I hope Matt bankrupts that useful idiot and the malevolent, evil force that put her up to this.

SGC's avatar

Ms Stone,

If you have a way to communicate with Matt Taibbi

Please let him know that there are thousands of people who support him and back him. Not only as an individual journalist, but as a person who stands tall for free expression, and the first amendment.

Dave F's avatar

Count me in— where/when I’m There

Alison Bull's avatar

Good! It’s right out of the playbook. They can’t shut someone up so out comes some sort of sex scandal. I pray Matt wins and she’s forced to apologize.

Maryann C's avatar

I pray he wins and that she is kicked out of congress. It’s really getting to be too much with the way our representatives and senators lie…about everything

Alison Bull's avatar

And the ease with which they lie is frightening.

FlaMac's avatar

Apologies are cheap. She should never get off that easily.

KateLE's avatar

The humiliation of a public retraction and apology will hurt someone with that outsized ego.

Ed Y.'s avatar

As Bannon always says, “it’s not going to stop until we make them stop”.

R H's avatar

Exactly. Pam Bondi needs to get busy.

Carol Jones's avatar

Just because you don't get daily briefings or see what she is doing doesn't mean she is not busy 🙄. Maybe what all you impatient people need to do is get busy then you won't be "sitting by the phone" waiting!

R H's avatar

I like the appointment, but I'll believe it when I see FBI kicking in doors at 5 a.m. and perp walking criminals in front media cameras. I'm retired so I am as busy as I want to be... :)

cdbsilva's avatar

Wow! Tripling down on “not so smart” is now a certifiably Dem art form. Matt got the receipts on this one. Another fine example why California is a total sh** show for the rest of the country to see.

Anne Hallock's avatar

I was horrified when I saw this woman treat Matt with such disgust and disrespect, I was appalled.

I responded to Matt's article about the lawsuit and I told him that if there's any way I could help, to just let me know.

In the meantime, I told Matt I would hand write a letter to the congress woman. I'm going to remind her, that when an American speaks to her in an official capacity, her duty is to be respectful and listen.

I am hoping that a letter may have more impact, than just responding on X.

Thanks Sasha for bringing this lawsuit to the forefront. I agree, “Go Matt!”

Marilyn's avatar

These demented Dems think that whatever they believe justifies whatever they do, even if it is proven that they are wrong. And that if they keep repeating the lies, somehow that will make people believe it is true. They also pay no attention whatsoever to what their constituents want, because they are convinced that they know what is best for all.

Anne Hallock's avatar

I know that. I've been fighting these idiots for years. I will still write my letter. It's the least I can do for Matt.

I'm an old lady and old enough to be Matt's mom. In fact my youngest son is named Matt. This situation has ignited the fighting mama bear within myself. I'll do what I can to protect and stand up for Matt.

Carol Jones's avatar

Any idea if there is a fund to support Matt /legal bills?

Lightwing's avatar

He said he is going to handle this himself. He’s not taking donations.

Garrett Phillips's avatar

He's probably making a million per month from his Substack. He'll be fine.

Anne Hallock's avatar

No, I don't know of one.

Libertarian's avatar

Thank Jesus for Matt, Glenn and Sasha.

Tao Of Freedom's avatar

This is going to be great ... Dems really have nothing to offer but Slurs and SignalGate...

Owain Glyndŵr's avatar

And the Signal issue is a nothing burger at heart. But it gives the left something to rail about.

JW Writes's avatar

I subscribe to his substack and gave a little cheer when this one came out. They all need to be sued, prosecuted, and bankrupted for the shit they do and say

Michael's avatar

There seems to be no end of these gullible unknown Democrats who think they are making a name for themselves but are simply used by the party as expendable idiots.

Jim F's avatar

Good for him. Her comments were completely out of bounds and difficult to watch. Anyone who follows Matt and his work knows him as a man of consummate integrity. Hope she loses every dime he’s suing her for, and it teaches other likeminded charlatans a lesson.

Mark Brown's avatar

Awesome, time to make those clowns in congress pay for their baseless smears. I remember when Matt Taibbi was at the Rolling Stone exposing the corrupt big bank bailouts and I was sort of blue pilled by his unflinching descriptions of the abuse and corruption of those bailouts. Nice to see that he has been red pilled by the censorship regime and corruption endemic in the Democrat Party.
