There will certainly be a backlash against Taibbi (it’s already happening) but Musk couldn’t have chosen a better journalist to write this story. He is a truth teller.

I can’t wait to watch the Taibbi/Murray vs Gladwell/whatshername Munk debate that took place Thursday.

In Note 32, Ro Khanna seems far more interested in backlash to Biden than defense of First Amendment. I disagree with what I think is Matt’s inference that Ro was defending First Amendment because she explicitly refers to backlash.

Thanks for the head’s up, Sasha. Your “Elon trying to save Democracy ‘ article could not have been more timely. Cannot wait for your follow-up that puts the released Twitter files in context. Hoping this is a real turning point of some sort.

Interesting. Matt just posted on Substack that he had a breaking story that he was going to post on Twitter, but not (yet) on Substack.

I’ve never been on Twitter. Should I be?

You don't need a Twitter account, his substack should link directly or click above, or here:

https://twitter.com/mtaibbi/status/1598832411025952768

Looks like he is still going though and more to come, so may just want for it to be all completed?

I can say with confidence that Ro Khanna could probably win the 2024 presidency off of this if he wanted.

Sounds like something of a palace revolt or an actual revolution there in the inner sanctums of Twitter. May yet be some serious "blood" -- figuratively speaking at least -- in the streets before the dust settles.

About time -- as JFK put it, "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."

En passant and FWIW, I had been defenestrated by the Star Chamber there at Twitter -- twice -- and had recently asked to be reinstated; new broom and all that. But seems the previous cuts weren't deep enough since I had been told, once again that:

"Your account has been suspended and will not be restored because it was found to be violating Twitter's Terms of Service, specifically the Twitter Rules against hateful conduct."

Largely because I had fallen afoul of the Tranish Inquisition there for this tweet:

"James Watt

@CyberneticsFTW

@MuertoPirata @Cane_the_femboi @CritFacts What? What 'doesn't work like that'? And which 'joke'? Young's quip about 'identifying as dogs pissing on fire hydrants'? Seems right on the money, an accurate analogy for the idiotic & quite demented claims of #TransLoonie nutcases. Are transwomen females or not?"

The rather cogent and quite prescient tweet of Cathy Young that I had linked to and quoted:

https://twitter.com/CathyYoung63/status/735417064257683456

Something of a major heresy there at Twitter to even suggest that transwomen are most certainly not females.

Of course they are women because they have a penis and assert that they are a woman. What don’t you understand? It’s no different than a man with a vagina that is a man.

Indeed. Though whole issue is such a clusterfuck of sloppy definitions and shoddy science -- on pretty much all sides. Too many don't realize, or refuse to consider, that there are no intrinsic meanings to the words "male" and "female" -- as with most if not all words -- although some definitions are more coherent, consistent, and useful than other ones.

ICYMI, a couple of my elaborations on the theme:

“December 2021) Institutional corruption is a phenomenon in public bodies that has been defined by the UK Independent Inquiry into the Murder of Daniel Morgan as placing the protection of reputation above fidelity to the truth, especially in the context of an independent or public inquiry.” Twitter practiced institutional corruption. It’s not illegal but is unethical for sure.

This breaking story is disjointed and v hard to follow (on Twitter). Why would Matt be the mouthpiece for Elon? This is puzzling.

As the owner he needed a layer of protection by having a journalist release the info. I think it makes a difference technically.

As an infrequent Twitter user, why is all garbled up? Whenever I see these "Tweet 1 of n" type threads they usually show up in order.

This is all jumbled up whether I am on iOS or laptop. See the first 8 tweets, then 10 random people reply, then tweet 12 (missing tweet 11), then random replies, then jumps to tweet #20-#25, more random replies, then missing tweet #11 shows up, etc.

Is how these types of tweets start out and later the server organizes them? Or is a professional tweeter like Taibbi making mistakes? Or something else?

I am posting this here to add to the discussion about what Twitter has been since our government(using Twitter) took out Mubarak and Quaddafi in 2011/12. I have followed the following author since he was way in front of the media during the Trayvon narrative build by the media. He is not wrong about these things very often and I think he was a high level DC insider or Wall Street guy.

Please give this a read at least for a broader picture. There are supporting links at the bottom. A lot is explained here that makes sense; I think Musk is finding out now what he is getting into. Pray for the guy.

You have to be either extremely stupid or extremely dishonest to think Taibbi was saying he found no evidence of US political officials involved.

The *whole point* of the story is that Biden officials and Dem politicians pressured Twitter to censor. Taibbi said it over and over.”

Expand full comment
Gantry's avatar

Glenn has some reading comprehension issues. Both Biden campaign staff AND Trump staff contacted Twitter urging to have tweets taken down. (According to Taibbi). None of them were actual governmental officials. They would have to be actual governmental officials for there to be any violation of law.

There is on FB as Zucker admitted it on Rogan's show. Taibbi has been a petty prudent journalist, but when the FBI starts threatening(not that I know it has happened yet) you start prioritizing things like freedom or not which is really a sad state of affairs.

Look, every one of us who was subjected to mask or vax mandates were threatened at losing our livelihoods. You think Taibbi hasn't been threatened yet? Or Musk? Search what happened to Sharyl Attkisson or James Rosen, both great journalists - the FBI/Stasi will have its way on behalf of the Big Lie.
