After sucking up to Trump and pretending to be the “information wants to be free” guys the tech bros have suddenly turned a corner on dictatorial rule.
To think the presence of one black BLM supporter was worthy of any more news coverage than it got (in the news story you gleaned it from) is absurd.
It is not media bias to focus predominantly on those who were armed, those who perpetrated acts of violence, and those who were taking time out of their busy lives as active police officers or elected state Republicans. It's basic news sense.
You honestly think the presence of one BLM guy warrants any more mention than it has in the face of all of that? Even when there is so much going on that it feels like the presence of unexploded bombs is being sidelined?
As for the claim that Trump may have been a half decent president without Twitter, it says a lot about your acceptance of his policies, and also ignores the fact that he is hardly (if at all) more temperate when he speaks in person.
Yes I do considering we were told they were "ALL WHITE SUPREMACISTS" and that the press and the Democrats have turned this into a race war when in fact it isn't. Hard to know that with some jackass running around with a Confederate flag but no racist group like the Nazis, for instance, would even allow any Jew, for instance, in their presence at all. So facts are facts. And if they aren't being reported accurately that sows distrust.
It's fine, I've addressed it in the comment higher up. You keep claiming news are saying they were all white supremacists rather than what they have actually done, which is point out many of them were.
As you pointed out, what happened the other day gave every TDS-suffering leftist the "I told you so!" opportunity of a lifetime; it was every liberal's dream come true.
Overlooked by the national media, though, is the fact that their own call to censorship is giving every conservative and Libertarian an equally profound if more internal and quieter "I told you so!" moment.
A small number of conservative numbskulls who grossly misread the situation gave the Democrats and their media minions the gratification of feeling vindicated - but their response of trying to silence all dissent isn't vindicating conservative critics - it's proving them right.
The Capital Hill rioters were, as you point out, outliers, a useful diversion.
The resulting censorship from the Left, on the other hand, is very much an accurate representation of that community.
Absolutely and you don't have to go far to flip the script and imagine, say, that one Black Lives Matter protester who was inside and filmed it had been shot by police. Or if Black Lives Matter had gotten in and were shot by the police. And so people say they never would have gotten that close and that might be true - probably is true - but it's also true that the Democrats and the left not only stood by while the rioters in Portland (mostly white) attacked the city nightly. They said nothing. They did nothing. In fact, if anything, they taunted the police and Trump to dare to go full fascists. Michelle Obama said that the protesters were gassed and beaten but they weren't. The police stood down in city after city to an alarming degree. They were not only left alone but encouraged. Kamala Harris bailed them out of jail. One was seen as justified and the other as an act of war that has now enabled a Patriot Act like response. They have no self-awareness at all, the Democrats. It was horrible, no doubt about it. But they can't paint all Trump supporters with the same brush.
I'm sorry Sasha, but as a Portlander and one that you are painting with that same broad brush, I have to make some corrections here. There was indeed bad actions by bad actors and I will not and have not let them off of the hook. However, protestors absolutely were gassed, maced, and beaten by not only Portland Police, but by Federal ICE Agents, ordered to the scene by the Trump Administration just as things were dying down on their own. The vast majority of the protests were peaceful and led by Black leaders in our community. Much of the bad actions occurred after the Police unilaterally decided to call protests riots on often very slim reasoning after the crowds had thinned out. We watched the news every night and this was covered extensively. I could give you tons of links showing Portlanders gassed, beaten, and bloodied. You may downplay all of this, but you may not pretend that it did not happen. Interestingly, the worst incident happened when a giant caravan of Trump drove miles to downtown with people shooting paintballs with military looking guns and macing people whilst sitting in the backs of their moving trucks. Later that evening as Proud Boys were looking for some action, one of them was shot to death in a tragic confrontation by, yes, someone identifying as an Antifa member. It is still unclear as to the actual instigator. We might have been able to find out if they had arrested the shooter rather than simply killing him outright, which Trump cheered. I have no time for losers like this guy, but everyone was amped up and armed. And please do not dismiss the Proud Boys activities. They are seriously bad actors in this region and one of the main reason that antifa has formed here is to counter the hooliganism of the Proud Boys.
I would also like to add that there was far more than confederate flag at the Capitol riot and did you see the rather large number of the people wearing "6MWE" (Six million (Jews) Were Not Enough) t-shirts.
It has been utterly telling that the unarmed Air Force veteran killed by police is having every dark corner of her life aired in the mainstream press - in some sort of twisted attempt to "prove" her death was justified.
When conservative media - or even just social media participants - point out that some (not all, but some) of those African Americans shot by police have less than stellar backgrounds, the national media jumps in and argues that it is irrelevant that the person had, say, multiple felony warrants, was suspected in a domestic violence, case, etc. The only fact we are to consider is that they were unarmed and shot by police.
But this conservative veteran shot by police - suddenly, every possible stain they can find against her is to be the leading story of the next day?
So which is it? Are back stories relevant or not?
As Glenn Greenwald pointed out in his excellent piece this week, the answer is that the Left no longer believes in standards, but in license: There is no longer an acceptable standard of behavior - your behavior will be judged base on the opinions you espouse.
And that is not a recipe for democracy, but fascism.
When left-wing protestors storm the Capitol building and forcefully occupy senators' offices to try to stop the Kavanaugh confirmation hearings, we are told they are heroes.
When conservatives storm the Capitol building to try to stop the counting of the Electoral College ballots, it's a "coup attempt." (Which, again, as Greenwald points out is the most utterly ridiculous thing uttered in this whole episode - and yet from the stone-faced expressions of those uttering it, is actually believed by a segment of the population.)
For two years, leftists have used Twitter to openly plan acts of violence from Washington, D.C., to the Northwest - and Google and Apple had no problem with it. Now Parler is banned for the same thing?
Hard to see such utter hypocrisy and abuse of power ending well for those companies ...
Having her background exposed like EVERY Black person's background killed by the police in the past decade, justly or unjustly, to justify police actions? So yes, backstories are relevant.
Um....OK... Somehow, I knew about the supposed criminal backgrounds of all of these people and yet I do not often frequent alt-right news sources. I do from time to time to "escape my bubble", but that's not where I heard about these backgrounds. Apparently, you somehow know me - Nice broadbrush dehumanizing though. I'm actually a fan of Sasha's writing and have on and liked many of her Twitter posts. My post below was certainly not meant to silence her, as if anyone could, but make some corrections about things that she asserted about activities in Portland that did not reflect the reality of what happened here. I have no intent to demean anybody on this or any other platform and hope Sasha did not take offence. BTW, did you notice the large number of 6MWE shirts at the Capitol Riot? Additionally, could you provide some sourcing on your assertion that "leftists have used Twitter to openly to plan violence from ..."? Thanks!
I overreacted, and apologize. I have deleted that post.
However, I do stand by the double-standard observation regarding the MSM and how they report on the same behavior depending on the viewpoints of those engaging in it.
As far as antifa planning their attacks - er, "protests," on Twitter, it's been fairly widely reported. They were posting locations for bag drops in Seattle and Portland, calling for folks to congregate near the courthouses, to gather outside the police HQ, etc. Yes, I know there were many peaceful protestors there as well - but the violence was obviously and clearly pre-planned, much more so than the disaster this week, and Apple, Google, etc., seemingly had no problem with it.
Did not notice the anti-Semitic shirts, no, but have no reason to doubt you. That anti-Semitism has been creeping back into polite society is no secret. It's been more prominent on the Left of late, but the Right is hardly any more immune to hatred or stupidity than the Left.
What about the double standard between how heavily armed the Capitol building was for BLM protesters versus Trump's supporters? You can't say it is because storming th Capitol was unexpected because they literally said they were going to do it all over social media.
Another huge difference is that Trump directly sparked this. The BLM protests and riots were sparked by police violence.
Here's the difference: BLM were fighting AGAINST the police. The police were, in a sense, at WAR with them. That was not true of the Trump supporters. I think that is at least one reason why they weren't ready. The BLM protesters began their protests in a fury and they eventually became peaceful but they did not start out that way. By contrast, all of Trump's were peaceful except when they were attacked by the people called "Antifa." I have no idea what they actually are because no one will cover them. But the Trump supporters were pro law enforcement, pro cop. Everyone knows this. If you want to say it was racist that there were no people on guard - I can't argue with that. Maybe it's true. But there was at least one black protester there who entered the building. Trump's supporters are not all white. Yet the press just lazily declares it as fact that they were all white. I don't know if they were. We can't ever get the true story about anything anymore. It's all hysteria.
Also I heard the Mayor of DC told all law enforcement to stand down. There is contradictory info about this. I don't know if it's true. But at some point I hope we can get past hysteria and towards actual truth.
Also, what do you make of reports that Trump in advance was sounding keen to get The National Guard involved because he thought there would be counter protests, but when there weren't he was reluctant to deploy even as the building was being stormed?
Can you point me to one piece of news coverage that says they were all white. I accept that police were probably complacent for some of the reasons you give, but that an utter dereliction of duty given how open many of those attending were about what they planned to do.
I can't read that piece but you can see it for yourself. The pundits on MSNBC and CNN were all saying "white supremacists" and Nazis. The justification for banning people is about racism. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris both talked about white supremacy and racism in their speeches. Why are you making me do your work for you? Just do a google search.
The telegraph article you linked to actually specifies white supremacist groups who were present, and does not once claim they made up the entire group who stormed the Capitol. I am no fan of The Telegraph, but it is not bad journalism.
I can read the link, and it does not say all of them were white supremacists. You seem to be objecting to the notion many of the main aggressors were, which I find surprising.
It's one thing to make the point (as you have) that this was a small proportion of Trump's supporters, but you are now actually defending these guys themselves.
2nd difference: Right-wing activists have been talking tough on social media, but not following through. Antifa knuckleheads have been acting on their threats, consistently. Right-wingers won't get the same pass moving forward ...

Type it into google. I don't want to sit here and argue with you.
