The trouble with your idea of Premium content is your content is already Premium quality. You put so much time into your essays, and it shows. I don’t know how you could improve on that. Maybe you could put it all behind a paywall, but I’d hate to see you do that. We need as many people as possible hearing from you. Keep up the great work. Happy to support your tremendous efforts.
In Substack, there are free subscriptions and paid subscriptions. Generally, with a paid subscription, you don’t get content unless you pay. This is the same as a “paywall”; it means the content is behind a “wall” (blocked) unless you pay. For Sasha, I believe she is making all of her content available to everyone regardless whether they are a free or paid subscriber. She is thinking of providing some content (to be determined) exclusively to those who are paid subscribers (ie, it is called putting that content behind a paywall).
Sasha, you are the best. I found Substack with Glenn Greenwald, who left soon after. You were the first recommendation I received. And although I am up to 60 subscriptions (I had to count), when I check the app, deep down, I’m waiting for your next post.
Your warmth, care and compassion come through in your writing and narration, every time. Even though you write about some of the most devisve issues of our time, which makes many combative, you alone lead with tenderness and humanity, which makes your voice unique.
Your voice is like a breath of fresh air, as these qualities are in rather short supply these days. Your weaving together of history and popular culture brings your writing to life. And your understanding and appreciation for people on both sides adds richness and depth. No shallow, straw man argument for you, your film and music references add context and subtlety that is a joy to read. Thank you.
